just so no one is confused about dams impact on nature. they aren't particularily harmful to the earth. beavers build them all the time and and a new habbitat forms around the dam while the old habbitat is lost. also, dams increase biodiversity and bio-density in the area and mitigate floods.
though, i think the japanese community should have some say in the matter.
True. Japan is still geologically active so there's a need to control rivers. But I can sympathize with these people. As stated in the video, no one in the central government pays attention to such a remote place, and people here must be feeling forgotten. Yes, it might be an inevitable consequence, but it's sad at the same time.
Here we go again with a great example of human destruction on it's environment. Just bulldoze the beautiful landscape and destroy a whole region's way of life for some corrupt politicians and greedy business men to fill their bank accounts. Total disconnect between politicians and the "people", like anywhere else in the world. If you are above a certain income level, you just can not feel empathy with those that are below it!?
So sad

I hope the opposition party wins so that the construction of the dam will be halted.

Population growth versus nature's survival -- somehow it doesn't come out right, but hope people see what I'm trying to say.
I really like Japanese history and people.
