Listening to this song again and again bringing the memory back to the sixties, and I'd love to listen this song together with the "lonely street" sung by Andy. I recall that there was another version as well sung by Lulu, which I remember was a hit that launched almost at the same time with Andy's. Its arrangement was beautiful and matched with Andy's. Who could possibly have this record, would it be nice to listen that version again.
Isn't it something how three minutes of musical instruments teamed with powerful lyrics and that voice can alter your frame of mind so much? This music just grabs you somewhere deeper than sometimes you're comfortable with.
This song reminds me of growing up and sometimes wathching the Andy Williams show and/or he would be a guest on another show and sing this song as we watched with the black and white console. i had this at my moms funeral with other great songs. She was sick for years ,off and on one thing after another. She never complained and was adored by many whom new her. miss u mama. She never knew the evil cancer finally got her.We chose to not to tell her!
@tenniscollector you should listen to Brenda Lee's version, the best. I like Everly Bros too here, except other than the beautiful harmony in trhe chorus, they sound a little tired. Read a review of the album it's on, lots of different things, not reviewed well, too bad.
Brilliant, thanks for putting on youtube. One of my all time favourites. The original Andy version is the 'B' side to Can't Help Falling In Love vinyl single, on the CBS label. Steve
Great version...but the talent who penned this beautiful tune has left us with his legacy of memorable melodies.... MICKEY NEWBURY... who also arranged the famous 'American Trilogy' for Elvis Presley!
Andy Williams has been performing for over 50 years. His work from the early sixties includes many songs which really are identified primarily with this one singer. He has consistently produced songs with an easy, mellow delivery, yet has also included songs which display his dramatic timbre; dynamic, awesome range; and perfect pitch. Is there some compelling reason a singer of this quality has never won a grammy?
@dauntlessdd And I think Elvis only won 2 grammys !! So how much respect can you give the Grammys?!! The Grammys are a sham! Just like the noble peace prize!
Great song...great arrangement...Andy is awesome...check out Willie Nelson's version...slower but equally beautiful. In my opinion...unfortunately...music...
especially as a genre...died decades ago. Thank God for You Tube postings like this one...

Thanks so much for posting this hauntingly sweet song so
wondrously & enchantingly sung by the great AndyWilliams.
It evokes sweet memories of a favorite sister-in-law who re
-galed the family at mealtimes with her sharp wit, humor, &
laughter-----until ALS defeated her. Thank you Sue, for the
warm comforting sunshine that you were in my brother's life. Beautiful slides - very meaningful.
