Hey! Thanks for sharing the video on youtube!!!!! By the way that's me picking up the octopus. The only bad thing about picking them up is that you smell so bad after.
I'm a die hard Minnesota Hockey fan, high school, college, and especially the Wild. But I have to say, this is the coolest tradition in all of sports.
you say liberal like it's a bad thing, your picture of hitler is also a picture of a guy who lead the socialist (nazi) party in germany. and selling people is human trafficking. the racial holy war is retarded. good job being an idiot.
Honestly.... The Octopus is already dead when it's bought so it's not like someone goes out and kills an octopus just to throw it on the ice.... And after the games they are throw into the Detroit River and become fish food.... There isn't anything wasted besides the persons money who bought the octopus....

I love Detroit and I love hockey; however, I am sickened by this display of callous indifference to the life of the animal. Can't you have fun without someone having to lose their sacred spark of life? Such a classless abuse of our power, and such a waste.
Yeah? Just because it's "tradition" doesn't make it right at all. If you would refrain from hurling a human body out onto the ice for some "tradition," why wouldn't you refrain from hurling someone else's body as well?
Dude. You're amazing! I couldn't have said it better myself. Most traditions involving animals ends very badly for the animals in general- just flagrant speciesism, if you ask me. I'm against traditions like this.
You know what? No. I, for one, actually give a damn about a species other than my own. And treating anyone's body like that- no matter who they are- is disrestectful.
Go buy a ticket to the Stanley Cup finals next year if Detroit is in it and hold up a "No Octopus" sign in front of the stadium. Then tell me what people say to you; or throw at you.
Get over it. It has and will always be a tradition.
I know the fans will whine and be pissed if I show up and give them a piece of my mind... But life's too short. So I won't. We can agree to disagree. I mean, no offense, but some traditions are just plain silly.
