  • 2:47 It's like letting a bird out of its cage. Beautiful.

  • i can't even imagine the sensation of growing up loving some artists and then, they join you on stage to play your song

  • 19 hasn't play with buddy and dbl trouble... mayer just fuckin' has the blues in his veins..

  • Snif, watching double trouble made me miss him... SRV

  • And no doubt Buddy is one of the most beautiful person I ever met!

  • Its truly a beautiful thing to see how music brings people together

  • fist time i see double trouble bassist with a stingray

  • so perfect it sounds just like the album version..!

  • He could sing the phone book and make it interesting and sexy.

  • mayer is a mimic

  • jesus what a band to have!

  • instead of thinking about mayer as a "traitor" csause he plays the pop too... try to think of him as the one who brings the blues to the ones who listen to pop. that's great.

and also, he can play the guitar, indeed he can. I mean, he's got BUDDY GUY to play rythm for him. that means something

  • @valedima91

buddy guy did most of the soloing there...

  • I would die to be there. die.

  • Smoot voice :D

  • @MennoGuitar MMMMMMmmmmm Smoot voice is sexy

  • No matter what music he makes....Pop,Rock,BLues,Soul,Rap or what ever ,its how you take it from the inside....and i think he even said this in an interview:

"If it sounds good to you and your ear..ITS GOOD....

And please people don't be such haters...because i know you hate him just because of the pop music....it should never come down to that...(if you are a blues listener than everything else is crap)....its not...listen what ever suites your heart. and yess I'M A HUGE BLUES AND MAYER FAN!

  • Hate it when people say bad things about John, don't see them playing with Buddy Guy and Double Trouble!

  • @wwe904 lol, its true

  • Buddy Guy licks are like no other.

  • You know your a good musician when double trouble and buddy guy wannap play with you

  • 18 Dislkes? WTF over.

  • What is the chord for the chorus? I thought it is A and D. I see john played A and E in this video

  • This is a major unrecognized step for pop music. Where a legitimized and effortful style in blues is wrapped in a candy-pop melody & singing. It's a great song.

  • EPIC!

  • Buddy guy can put blues in pop and make it pop! :)

    Great buddy! ;)

  • smooth solo

  • I survive on the the breath that you're finished with...

  • I don't like John, but i appreciate what he's doing for the music, he is commercializing the blues. Every generation has his own of that kind, Eric was the first (and the best) perhaps, than SRV, today it is Bonamassa and Mayer maybe...

For the few, it will be the way through them to the great blues giants like BB, Muddy, Howlin' Wolf...

  • @HomesickBluesBand Bonamassa is great, but I don't know if he's had the impact on the average music fan (especially the ladies) that Mayer has.

  • @makeitrain47 bonamassa is an awesome guitar player, but mayer has a lot more to offer in music. i mean, he's got his own thing you know. i've never heard anything that sounds even close to mayer's style, except when he plays the blues, of course.

  • Don't think about it like Pop music taking over the music we all love, think of it as us blues players having a foothold in the door to the music world!

  • Mayer's holding my baby!!!

  • what song is this man!!?,.. haven't heard from J. Mayer in awhile,.,. great song.

  • @jcb08 come back to bed

  • John Mayer = Modern day Rock N Roll warrior.

  • @RayManzarekGod That's Lemmy! But John Mayer is good but not a rock 'n roll warrior... i'm sorry!!

  • THE COLOR OF FIRE!

    DUAS FERAS DO BLUES!

    DOIS HOMENS GUITARRAS!

OUVE AÍ E DÁ O PREÇO QUE ESSA É DAS MINHAS!!!!!!

    "DRAGON NO FEAR"

  • It amazes me how Buddy Guy has such control of his instrument. Amazing.

  • no mainstream just goood music

  • Nick Drake use to accuse John Martyn of being commercial . Are nt people strange?

  • @atavistos

    Martyn? Wtf?

  • Love it, love it!

  • Buddy Guy you and John Mayer rocked it on that program (My favorite, SOUNDSTAGE) You guys work great together is what i'm trying to say! GOOD JOB!

  • I just can't stand his voice. No offence.

  • When so much hate for John Mayer. So what if you don't like his "POP" music. That guy can play the dang guitar and he's played with some of the best. BB King,Eric Clapton,Buddy Guy,Joe Bonamssa,John Scholfield..I can keep going?..

  • Man John is livin the dream

  • Damn, fine song right there. Been some time since i heard something this good.

  • how many of you got asked to play in B.B. King and Buddy Guy and John Schofield's albums? or have you ever played with Eric Clapton?

its pathetic to see all the people tryna take this boy down, while the gods of electric guitar blues are gracing him=)

  • Orgasmic. I love love love this. I love Buddy Guy. I lovveeeeeeeee the blues. And I LOVE JOHN MAYER.

  • Thank you ivarus75, you have made my entire month, if not year. It feels like I am seeing an old friend for the first time in a long time. Thank you Thank you.

  • For all you JM haters out there (i.e. people who don't get music)...if you think Buddy Guy and Double Trouble would share the stage with anyone they don't respect you are nuts. Greatest player since SRV.

  • @fentele52 Legit.

  • Buddy's playing on this was perfect.

  • Now Get used to pop-blues ya'll Lol !

  • 3:39 When the guitars begin to Talk

  • guy who influenced SRV, guy's who played with him, and a guy who idolized him all playing together. superb

  • i respect john mayer for playing the blues but he should not sing

  • thanks for all buddy guy man you r teacher for all

  • all i gotta say is i hope budy lives to be 150 and still teach al haters how its truly done!!!!

  • @brulldozer Who is Al Haters?

  • @gormarx that's Co starring's nephew..... duuhhhhh

  • John Mayer playing his song with Jimi's guitar, Stevie's band and Buddy freaking guy on 2nd guitar...weather or not you like Johns "pop" music, hes the ones pushing the music we love to the mainstream...Go John!

  • @juanrules You are so right!

  • @juanrules hendricks gutar?

  • @maxpayne718 yeah, its a copy of hendix' monterey

  • @juanrules : It's not actually Jimi's guitar. It's a Fender Custom Shop copy of Jimi's Monterey guitar which, of course, was burned to a crisp and busted up. Pieces of it can be seen in the Hendrix gallery at the EMP in Seattle.

  • @juanrules Jimi's guitar? He's playing it upside down. ;-)

  • @juanrules well fucking said

  • @juanrules He aint playin' left handed though... mmm what a pity,he should go all the way and meet his master half way!!

  • @juanrules Your comment is the best comment ever.

  • @juanrules He's refused to let the media and the music industry box him, and we are all better for it.

  • @juanrules Actually, Jimi smashed the original guitar to smithereens on stage at Monterey. You can see the pieces of it in the Hendrix display at the EMP is Seattle.

Fender Custom Shop produced a limited edition of this famous guitar, which is probably what John is playing.

  • @Dogheadj I know. I think its pretty well documented. Being one of Jimi's signature performances.

  • @Dogheadj i guess he knows, it was just to add a little drama to enhance the argument, and it worked fine

  • @juanrules thats the ultimate thing that could have ever happened to john mayers fingers. Jimis Gat, buddy and double trouble. I bet he had to change his pants over and over

  • Incredible tones! Fantastic!!!!

  • It makes me so happy to see someone like John Mayer to show people the artist of his roots. Keep on playing JM.

  • from what year is this performance?

  • Its almost hard to watch John just shred Buddy's,Claption's and BB's faces off...

  • @nickdude09 SRV > John

  • @FoolishFoolin because he was first

  • @nickdude09 Did you even watch the same video as me??? Buddy guy was playing all the good lead!! and another thing BLUES PLAYERS DON'T SHRED they make the guitar sing and cry.

  • pop sucks

  • skipping to the solo ftw

  • did he name his band after stevie ray vaughans band?

  • @willwelsh816 no. he's playing with stevies band. chris layton on drums, tommy shannon on bass.

  • i dont get all the hate for mayer. bottom line______he knows how to play the guitar and is damn good at it.

  • Double Trouble should have held down Mayer while Mr. Guy and Mr. Vaughn took turns t bagging this little fools nasty hate spewing cocky ass mouth.

  • i don't think Buddy has played a bad note in his life!

  • @mbasketcballb Nooo...their part of Late Nights house band

  • uggghhh i miss Conan!!!

  • @mbasketcballb The horns are from late night

  • i enjoy blues and heavy metal because it spawned from blues

  • im 13 and love playing blues on guitar and i go to the school in the city where everyone likes metal and pop not me i can sit hours on end bluesing along with my backing tracks love it.

  • @TheWackojacko08 nice to see the youth appreciating good music. Keep it in you.

  • @TheWackojacko08 It's good that you're into blues at that age. I play rock and metal, but learning the blues took my playing to another level—it's all about playing with feeling and soul.

  • Is that Chris Clayton and Tommy Shannon is that John Mayers band????????

  • @mcbigs

    Unplug your ears bro...

  • 844 You need to broaden your horizons, and spend more time listening to the greats...then you'll really understand where mayer sits....at their feet. I don't know if he will improve his playing but currently he is weak.

With respect to keeping blues alive with the younger bloods...Bonamassa is doing that quite well, no need for mayer to pretend blues.

  • @mcbigs who the fk is Bonamassa? something u pulled out of your ars? just sit back and enjoy

  • @dowrap like I said to 844, you need to broaden your horizons. Google him. And before you reply with obvious ignorance remember that children should only speak when spoken to, and with some degree of knowledge...which you obviously don't have if you need to ask that question. While your at it lookup Albert King, Blyther Smith, Willie Dixon or for that matter google "blues legends". Listen to some of those guys, and you will realize mayer has his feet in shoes that are way too big for him.

  • @mcbigs Damm im sorry! didn't mean for the micbig man to get his panties in a wad!

  • @dowrap you're forgiven. No offense intended or taken. That's what's great about music, room enough for everyones passions.

  • @mcbigs Hey I googled Bownmassa, hes pretty damm good! But hes not black! Ahhhh got ya

  • @dowrap HAHA. Never said he was, don't have to black to really play the blues! Look at SRV. Bonamassa is damn good, Glad you enjoyed him.

  • John has kept blues alive for this generation and helped give credit to Buddy and others which today's mainstream fans have no clue about. Buddy is probably the single most important rock/blues player in history even more so that Hendrix. As a matter of fact Jimi stated that he saw buddy use feedback and distortion before anyone and that's when he started using it. No one knew of Buddy at the time, thanks to Buddy Jimi became the ultimate influence.

  • sometimes i wonder how does it feels to play with legends like Buddy Guy and Double Trouble?

  • incredible

  • Anyone know which guitar John is using? He uses it quite often. I love it!

  • @icedgreen jimi hendrix monterey pop festival stratocaster :)

  • @MagnusNoach Thanks!

  • maaan that solo they both do at the end is orgasmic 3:43

  • all the people saying pop and blues dont go together, your pretty ignorant people really, what do you think pop musics based on? you may not like his pop stuff, but he is an amazing player, he even admits that hes not too proud/fond of his acoustic stuff compared to his blues, he did it in order to get to a point where enough people have heard him that now he can do what he likes and go in the direction he wants to go. i think thts pretty clever tbh, hes where he wants to be, good luck to him

  • mayer is using the Hendrix Monterey pop festival strat

  • This song is a lot slower, BUT go watch the video of Mayer covering SRV's "Empty Arms" with Double Trouble. You can tell that John is probably thinking "Damn. I'm glad my songs aren't this hard to play. My hand is cramping!"

  • @FrizzyBlue watch Mayer playing Neon acoustic, his songs are some of the hardest I've ever heard for the guitar

  • @telecasterthommy Yeah maybe I shouldn't have said "hard." I think it is the styles of play which are different. SRV had his own style of playing, tuning, and thickness of strings, and Mayer's not use to it, so that may be why he seems a little uncomfortable playing his music. But even Mayer on acoustic is not as hard as James Taylor on acoustic.

  • @FrizzyBlue i think he wouldnt play SRV, because SRV is a different class

  • dont knock buddy guy .every rock guitarist since the early 60s owes buddy a pat on the back for inventing that screaming blues rock sound.....no buddy guy no hendrix no clapton no stevieray no john mayer

  • You know what? People hate on John Mayer because they are jealous! Now me I love the blues and calssic rock. I also like John Mayer too. I like his Trio stuff more because of the blues. Any body hating on him is jealous thats all. PS john Mayer plays too women wink wink thats why guys him more but hey get it man.

  • @Alraul2008 exactly how are we jelous? As blues musician I can say with 100 per cent CERTAINTY I am NOT jelous of John Mayer to one single extent. Can you gorupie fags come up with ANYTHING new? it's always the same retarded response "your just jelous" NO THE HELL WE ARE NOT. Mixing Pop with Blues is BULL voice. He has NO grit like Buddy, Stevie Ray. I see blues bands play ALL tghe time here, they play TRUE gritty dirty blues. How is it their not famous and Mayer is?

  • @crazycuntryboy2 Because he is doing something different. He makes good, easy listen tunes you can listen to anywhere. Blues.... is not... John Mayer makes blues into Pop without destroying every aspect of blues. It might not be your taste BUT, its far more peoples taste than true, gritty and dirty blues is. All music with passion and meaning is great, whether it is pop, blues, rock or classical, unfortunately, people don't buy great music... they buy "cool music", JM is both cool and great.

  • @crazycuntryboy2 I never would put him on the level of Buddy Guy or SRV. His pop music is for the chics dude not you or me. Well unless he give you a hard on? You don't like John Mayer's music so why are you looking him up? You should spend more time looking up musicians you like Jethro. Also, I am not a groopie LOL far from it Gunther. PS Lynard Skynard rocks!!!

  • I don't criticize any musician, lets face it he can play the guitar but so can i.. If were going to put this guy up there with Buddy, Hendrix and Clapton we must wonder if it is because the ruling record companies have promoted it that way or not... isn't he pretty and marketable:) this happens by chance of course! would he have the same popularity if he was chinese? American Idol Aussie Idol, Bangladesh Idol etc will tell you covertly that stars are "products" manufactured by industry...

  • People bashing Mayer just don't make sense. Buddy guy, A blues Legend(THE legend in my eyes) has given this man the light of day. Buddy loves playing with him, and a man of that statue doesn't play with any Joe Schmoe.

  • i justt cannot stand his voice. Hes too goody goody to play the blues like he wants to, the boy needs some haardship & toil in his life to really feel what it is to make blues.............

  • @o56kid Dude this was a long time ago..Go and listen to him now...Listen to Live in la...Neon, free fallin, In your atmosphere...etc..He has a amazing voice!

  • Comment removed

  • @bluelibra65 Shame on BG? Shame on YOU for judging him! He's a legend and you're in no position to do so. When you influence greats like Hendrix and Clapton you can talk about what he should be doing.

  • @oc0dyc Nick Drake used to accuse John Martyn of being commercial! Are nt

    people strange ?

  • @oc0dyc bluelibra65 should remove "blue" from his name .....

  • Who else can combine Blues and Pop even close to Mayer!? He will be a legend

  • pop and blues do NOT go together SORRY. His playing is awesome, his voice, NOT FOR BLUES BRO.

  • @crazycuntryboy2 i´m with you... Pop and blues donot go toghether. Double trouble should continue with another bluesman not with a comercial popstar.

  • He's playing a Hendrix replica guitar next to Buddy Guy and in front of Double Trouble. How's that for makin' it!!

  • My friend, you are a genius. Very well said.

  • @indian5 you prove with your comments that you know absolutely nothing about music. I have nothing but respect for Buddy, but his contributions to the music industry have come and passed. The 12 bar, 1 4 5 blues format is out dated and needs to be modernized. That is where John comes in. And if you haven't heard the John Mayer Trio then get out from under that rock that you live in. John Mayer is the most influential blues artists of our generation. Notice how i didnt say best.

  • @indian5 Satriani and Bonomassa don't reach as many ears as Mayer and doesn't carry the blues genre any farther than the Kings or Guy did. Some people call that selling out but i call it finding out what people want to hear and puting your own spin on it. Mayer gets a lot of shit for being pop, but even in his pop-iest songs you can hear the blues influence.

  • @12AX7power you are so entirely wrong.

wow. your 12ax7's have GOT to be chinese.

  • @helpmetony hahaha....agreed

  • how can anyone say who isnt and who is a blues man? It's music, no one owns it, and styles aren't designated to certain people. Truth is John Mayer is an excellent guitar player. Whether or not hes as good as Buddy and and 'The Greats" is irrelevant.

  • @12AX7power If hes not a musician then why did he study music at berkelee college of music? the same school as steve vai and joe satriani? and why does he play along side of musicians like eric clapton and buddy guy and B.B. King. and many others. they obviously see something that you cannot.

  • yeah but he can get more puss then youve ever seen in your entire life. go get famous and play with buddy guy on stage. then you can shit talk whoever you want big guy. but for now just shut up and listen to the fucken music ya tool

  • @12AX7power

Listen to his tone and phrasing, he's got soul!! Yeah he's a pop star and he's in the tabloids so what. He can play. Buddy on the other hand is rather a worn cliche with nothing much to add and reaity is that he's never been that good. I do however wish him all the best and if he can leverage Mayers success, so much the better..

  • @sjdevan Buddy has never been that good??? I have respect for JM but you don't have to bash Buddy to talk John up.

  • Rolling Stone says that John Mayer is a guitar God. How lame is that???

  • Call Buddy Guy a POP musician and see if you're still breathing afterward LOL

  • If it weren't for Buddy Guy, I wouldn't be listening to this at all, lol. Fucking LOVE Buddy, man. Soulful legend.

  • goosebumpssss..again..man

  • ID TAKE THIS JOHN MAYER...OVER pop/mainstream john mayer AND DAY OF THE WEEK..MAN THAT WAS GOOD.

  • where's Reese Wynans...(I know the john mayer teeny-bopper fan club won't know who Reese is, but the real fans will)

  • ...tell me about it

Someone even said shock collars should be given to the "teeny-bopper fan club" at JM concerts for the benefit of the bluesheads in the crowd.

  • love the shock collar idea....i'm gonna see mayer in las vegas in march...i hope the underground mayer fans will start to overpower those damn "teeny-boopers" (fixed spelling on "booper", i think.)

  • Well, being that Battle Studies recently came out - BULL SHIT. Hopefully you'll be at a good angle of John's Two Rocks that they'll overpower the "teeny boppers" around you.

  • my thoughts exactly hahaha i was lookin for him here and i had to double take i was like wait a minute Reese is not here. Anywhos I agree with shock collars for teeny boppers, and the fact that he jams with buddy, clapton, and bb is certification enough for me to see him as a great guitarist hahaha...other than my own determination through my guitar skills and my liking of his guitar.

  • they just used the house keyboard player apparently. I dont know if Reese had a scheduling conflict or whatever, who knows. But i like all of john's music. his early stuff, although quite poppy, still has a lot of merit in it for any guitar player. i dont know if that makes me a "teeny-bopper" or not. but you shuold really give a chance man, he's a damn good player and some of the tones he digs up are pretty incredible

  • reese wynans is a friggin ace keyboard player, i just love the guy. I didnt think stevie, chris and tommy could get any better, they were just amazing, then reese came along and really added a real velocity to double trouble. hes immense!!

  • @SRVBASE

    Thumbs up x10!!

  • @resematt1980 yea he disappeared

  • John mayer is awesome. i hate when people talk shit about him. If BB clapton buddy guy and others consider him a great player and are happy to jam with him dont you think thats enough proof that he is awesome. or wait a minute do you haters know more than the legends?

  • Just read the latest Rolling Stone interview with Mayer. Sounds like a regular dude to me. Says it like it is and is pretty damn creative about it in the meantime. Thumbs up to your assessment. Oh well. You know. Imagine the concept of actually just being yourself....Life is just like that...and it happens. Good to see a talented eclectic like Mayer gift us with a bit of inspiration here. .

  • @yeahright123go well, he's the only young mainstream-pop blues player around, so surely they'd lionize him...

  • @yeahright123go I think the reason people dislike Mayer is not because of his playing; indeed he is a good guitarist. Rather, it is because he is perceived to be egotistical, and sometimes his arrogance is reflected in his stage presence and music.

The "greats" such as SRV, Hendrix and Clapton, were/are humble men, and part of what made them great is their genuine personalities. Mayer is not considered to be humble in that respect.

Don't shoot me Mayer fans, this is merely an observation!

  • @utopianreality

    Preach.

  • @PrimoSkeeter1904 A-men brother!

  • @yeahright123go it's because he's a douche. He can play some damn good blues, though.

  • @yeahright123go hes a cocky asshole. listen to any of his interviews. honestly i would prolly like him alot if he knew when to stfu

  • @yeahright123go I dont disagree I have all his CD's but he seems to be more interested in the social celebrity lifestyle thesedays than guitar playing, as seen in his new cd.....not very good imo. I still bought it cause I am a fan but he should shut up and play guitar! ;)

  • @Drowningfish666 i have to agree with you.i'm a big fan of mayer,BUT his last cd was so pop and commercial.HE should return to his continuum style.
