And come on... washing the dishes is probably the most thoughtful thing you could do :D Whenever I'm washing my dishes I hardly notice it because my head is somewhere else, it's so relaxing. It's also a great time to pray, because your hands are busy and your head does not need to think at all really, at least to me, it's a refreshing experience everytime.
My wife left me too... For about a week to help her family take care of their dying grandfather. When I'd run across friends of ours, they'd say "Where's your wife?" I'd say "she left me," then I'd smile :-) and say, "just for a week though."
