Ive been looking for a video like this for so long. One thing though, when you look at a guitarist like zakk wylde, it looks like his finger is pressing into the bent string not just laying softly over it. Anybody know what im talking about?
@nattynarcosis most classical, pop, folk artists grow their nails... use one "pick" or "5 nails = 5 picks"... i figure the choice is obvious, and it all fits into style. know why what is, is... don't just start ripping on people.
yeeeeaaaaa... aaaaaaannnnnnnd what if you're not? read what i wrote don't just start typing, you did that on your last reply too, it's annoying. i said it depends on the sound you're trying to attain. i never said every classical, jazz, pop, and folk musician uses long nails; though if you take a poll i would not be surprised if the majority favor nails.
don't misconstrue i'm not like a lot of youtubers who try to pass profanity and insults off as an argument, and i'm definately NOT taking a stab at you. I don't mean to come off as an ass so i appologize if i do. have a good one mate.
raking into a singing sustained note a la SRV in little wing (well, SRV in any song really) drives me fucking nuts!!! very hard for me to do that shit but it sounds sooooooooooo powerful. very frustrating. : (
its all fun and games until until u decide to cut ur nails. I've been using my nails for about 3 years and recently i went back to a pick. The pick is where its at for stuff like this.

tonality changes entirely; it depends on the artist and what sound they're trying to attain.

It takes a while to get it down. I tend to mute strings I'm not playing w my picking hand.

When i try to rake with just my palm muting on my strumming hand, the strings ring out too much.
Anyone have any suggestions? or is it also largely based on pickups/amp

Theres a bit of a trick to releasing your palmmute at the right time and focused on the right spot.

One of the techniques I like to employ is raking more with the muting on your right hand
seafooddynamite 3 years ago
...whoops, I meant left hand, whatever you use to fret.. XD
seafooddynamite 3 years ago
you need to mute with your fret hand. if you wanna palm mute with your strumming hand for raking do it the most far away of the bridge that you can

thx man, i needed to learn how to rake, u should grow ur hair, then ud look like a rockstar
