  • Good video but you forgot one of the most historic teams in Indiana. That is Old Lafayette Jeff

  • What a great tribute! I had forgotten what an awesome score Hoosiers had; great to see it used here.

In addition to the Knightstown Gym, the attached former Knightstown High School is now Academy Place Apartments.

  • Sad to note that the old Scottsburg 1912 building at 4:15 in the video was torn down last summer.

  • The picture from Hope Indiana, their mascot was the red devils when it was hope high school and later changed to the Hauser jets with the new high school being build known at hauser Jr./Sr. high school. I went to school at Hope and enjoyed every minute, such a great town with a lot of pride.

  • gone but not forgotten lyon hall in salem

  • Sir if you don't have some of the old gyms and schools in SW Indiana I can guide you to them. That would include Winslow, Petersburg, Otwell, Holland, Jasper, Spurgeon, Lynnville, Oakland City, Princeton and those are just the ones I can think of!

  • @cary12111965

Thanks, I'm actually heading down to Jasper this week. Hopefully I'll have time to get to a few of those you mentioned. Much appreciated!

  • what about Huntertown High School?

  • Anderson High School's main building was built in 1910, not 1912. The addition opened in 1935 and the final addition in 1979. Wigwam opened in 1961. I know as I could see the 1910 date over the Lincoln Street entrance from my house!

  • Check out my upload video of the Bridgeton Raccoons home court up until about 1963. Also - Rockville still uses its court which was built around 1940. Its pretty cool to go to a game there. Its too short!

Love this video - Sometimes I hate it here then I remember we are the caretakers of "The greatest game ever made" and life has meaning. I've always said The reason why God invented basketball was so that Hoosiers could survive the winter!

  • One missed was Frankfort High School. Coach Everett Case led the basketball team to four state championships in the 20's & 30's. -

Also, the High School building is still standing and is now the City Building, known as Old Stoney.

  • Love all the unique brick buildings, wish I lived in a brick house

  • Tiger Den is stil intact, ,as is the stage which served as Gym floor when the C.A.H.S. tigers took the floor during the 1950's

  • you forgot rivet high school formerly known as central catholic and st.rose it's still in use why? because i play in it

  • The school board in Anderson voted to close the Wigwam effective at the end of this school year. How sorry can the get???

  • Millersburg elementary pretty old.. in 1969 Millersburg and New paris consolidated to create Fairfield high school which also has a good basketball tradition.. wheres the wigwam and northside gym btw?

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • I still have great memories at the old Noblesville gym, which is now used for the Boys and Girls Club. Great times there.

  • At 6:22... Hope High School. It later became Hope Elementary. That's where I went to elementary school. I have many fond memories of that building. It is now a community center... I believe the gym is still intact though.

  • @crazyslave

The gym at Hope is still there. My aunt lives a few blocks away and I see it often, though I haven't been inside it for awhile.

  • @GasCityGuy Mays High School is now Mays Elementary too where I attended elementary school. :) Thanks for the video!

  • @GasCityGuy

Your aunt lives in Hope? Chances are we know each other or are related... LOL

  • @crazyslave Mays High School is now Mays Elementary too. :)

  • kokomo high school was built way before any of these, and it is still in use as a middle school today.....

  • I went to Fowler Elementary aka the old Fowler, Indiana High School. It was pretty big but on the very top level which was for 5th and 6th grade you could kind of feel the floor sink in. After I graduated Benton Central I found out, they closed the elementary school and tore it down.

Then again......I went to the new Benton Central Jr./Sr. High School. My mother went to the old one in Montmorenci, Indiana.

  • Most definitely, a big thumbs up for both of these vids.

  • Great Job! I wish you would have some pictures of Auburn High School in this. Great old building that they just demolished last year.

  • you may want to look into what remains of Gaston High School....not sure when the school was raised ( Im 44 and it was already raised when I was a child living there...so it was before 1970 because thats when I moved there )....but..the gym still stands ..they used to rent it out to people to play ball..not sure if they still do though..it was in pretty bad shape last time I was there which had to be 15 -20 years ago..

  • Old Brownsburg gym where the movie Hoosiers was filmed.

  • Old Brownsburg gym where the movie Hoosiers was filmed.

  • You can add another one to your list. Anderson Highland just played it's last home basketball game tonight. It was a special, but sad, night. The school will be closed after this year.

  • Man, wish you would've posted Linton-Stockton, Bloomfield and Central (White River Valley). The gyms of all of those are still intact, by the way.

  • Dude, can't believe americans are so hyped about high school basketball. I wish it was the same thing, here in Quebec.

  • America in general, but especially in Indiana--its basically where basketball lives.

  • Thanks for bringing back memories of the 5 gyms I played in back in the early 60s.

  • @lspencer98 You must be old dude.. no offence

  • Some old schools here in NE Indiana that need top be on here are, Auburn High school and gym, still very much intact. Salem Center school and gym, used as a barn, Spencerville High school used as a commercial buiness, and Harlan High school and gym, empty, but still standing as of this summer.

Also, Kendallville High School is the middle school.

  • sorry to report but according to the Ft. Wayne newspaper the Auburn gym was razed a couple of weeks ago. I do have a pic of it fortunately for a future posting

  • Add Lebanon High School old gym which is now apart of Lebanon sports and fitness. Rick mount played there!!

  • Thanks for bringing back memories from my childhood in the 60's and 70's when Indiana HS Bball was king!!!!!!!

I played JH Bball in teh old Martinsville gym.

  • I went to Washington Catholic for a semester. lol, I like their gym.

  • Great Video. Maybe add Natchez Fieldhouse....former downtown home of the Jeffersonville Red Devils. Still being used for basketball leagues and they actually played a HS girls game there last fall.

  • great video! what i think you need to do is all the new gyms now. oh and i live in richmond and richmond high school's gym is phenominal. its not the biggest but is the most nice.

  • Ha! Nice. I prefer the look of older buildings to new buildings, but I like the insides to be renovated well :P

  • Does anybody know if the Shields HS shown at 5:42 was attended by John Mellencamp?

  • @hazelwood55 John Mellencamp (who was a few years ahead of me in school) went to the new Seymour High School that opened in 1960. Shields High School became Shields Jr. High (grades 7 and 8) when the new high school opened. John did attend Shields but it was a Jr. High School by then.

  • 2:30 K-TOWN hoosier gym! i live 3 houses down for this place: i have played basketball there and also have seen a few concerts there:)

  • Not to worry! New Castle, Connersville, the Wigwam and others will be in the next one I'm working on right now. I've got a couple more places to visit before I'm finished. Hope to have it posted in a month or so.

  • Paul Cross Gym in Shelbyville is currently a civic center gym, moved in current gymnasium (William Garrett gymnasium)in 1968.

  • @GasCityGuy

How about Visiting West Terre Haute, There are 2 schools still there in some form. Concannon High School is now an apartment building with the gym intact. The West Vigo Community Center is the old Valley High School Gym!

  • roann used to live there covered bridge is cool

  • Great video, but what about all of the great old gyms in northwest Indiana?? There is great highschool basketball history in both Lake and Porter county. I'm sure there is quite a few people that have images to use for this video. But anyway, great job!!

  • Funny that you mentioned NW Indiana. We are planning a road trip through that area sometime during this summer. Having lived most of 40 years in southeastern Indiana, it's the one area of the state I've not had much of a chance to see.

  • FYI...Columbus Central was actually a Jr High/Middle School. Hope High School was an Elementary school.

  • RE: Iwm9995

Central school was Columbus High School until late 1940/1950's. Hope school was Hope High School until Hauser opened.

  • Great job on the video! The music selection was perfect. Do you or anyone else have interior and exterior photos of the old Lafayette Jefferson gym (the one downtown)?

I have many great memories of that place. Thanks.

  • Great job on the video! The music selection was perfect. Do you or anyone else have interior and exterior photos of the old Lafayette Jefferson gym (the one down town)?

I have many great memories in that place. Thanks!

  • Donald Hamilton's book 'Hoosier Temples' has a great vintage photo of the exterior of the Lafayette Jefferson gym on page 57.

I've not been to many places in West Central/ North West Indiana. Will definately have to make a road trip over there this summer.

  • great site....see my ind b-ball thoughts at "daily citizen" then "linton daily citizen" then opinion and enter greg smith in the search block...this site brings back such great memories..i'm so glad i experienced ind basketball

  • That was a great Letter to the Editor. I was in that area 5 or 6 years ago. It was a very windy day on Regional Saturday. After the morning games at Washington I went up to Worthington then made my way back to Loogootee. I'm sure I got a photo of the Worthington gym. I'll have to be sure to include it the next time.

  • A great gym that is not included is the old Kouts High School gym. I've been out of the area, but it was being used for the middle school gym in the 90s. No court level seating, the crowd sat above the action. I remember there being no inbounds violations playing there in middle school because the walls were to close to teh sidelines.

  • Thanks I am always on the look out for another cool gym.

  • Nice job! Please include the old Culver High School gym (which is now used by the elementary school) in the sequel.

  • Great Work! Very Cool! Indiana basketball is a religion... I have some shots of old schools if you are interested?

  • Nice video. Lot's of heart

  • Nice hustle!

  • Where was Deerlick's Gym?? LOL Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing

  • LOL Deerlick's Gym is now a parking lot in Brownsburg, Indiana. :(

  • I was disappointed not to see the most famous high school gymnasium in Indiana, Milroy School Gym at Milroy (Rush County)! Seriously, the Milroy gym is still in use as an elementary facility and still witnesses many torrid hardwood contests. It is slated to be replaced in the near future and demolition won't be far behind!

  • Thank's for the heads up on Milroy. I'm currently working on a second video which will have a few shots of the outside of the school. I'll have to see if I can get a peek inside of it soon.

  • Also...do you know the time line for the school to be replaced?

  • Loved the video. What a wonderful project to transport us all back to the time when basketball was king in Indiana. I fear it will never again have the same enchantment and I consider it a greater loss to Indiana than any bridge, building, or artifact. The Rush Co. Schools corp. recently received OK to get quotes and proceed with 2 replacement schools (Arlington & Milroy to go) and refurb of Mays. So Milroy and Arlingto should still be standing for 2-5 more yrs.

  • part of hoosier hysteria history.
