that is your own opinion, but just so you know many okinawans are actually very sensitive about being called 'japanese' because they dont consider themselves so. My father was born in Okinawa and he's always saying" We aren't Japanese, we are Okinawan." It isnt a big deal to me because i understand why there is confusion, but i feel i have to mention it for my dad's sake.

In America, we have 50 different States and we all are Americans, but many people when asked: "Where are you from?" They will give name of State, not country! Your father is just proud to be from Okinawa and there is nothing wrong with that!

They are similar, true but they have completly different cultures and beliefs, they arent even on the same landmass and they have their own language. They are two seperate, unique nationalities.
