200 years ago Napoleon fought against the monarchy and against tyranny, but eventually got defeated( now matter how) by European monarchies. NOW, the 21'st centuries those same monarchies, just in different skins trying to make us believe that they are doing the same as Napoleon..I don't think so...
In fact we can't say that Waterloo looks like Austerlitz . Why ? Firstly at Waterloo our army wasn't really more numerous than the english army. Secondly the english were stashed in farms or on the hill. Thirdly the prussians arrived BEFORE Napoleon decided to send the old guard. Fourthly at Austerlitz the russains and austrians were more numerous than us and they were on a big hill. Finally we killed more men at Austerlitz than the english at Waterloo.
@maxi3317 The coalition would formed 700 000 soldiers against Napoleon (370 000 british and prussians) so he's army was greater then the british ORE the prussians, he decided to attack the prussians some days before Waterloo and defeated them but many prussians survived and joined Waterloo but 35 000 french soldiers (who where sended after the defeated prussians) wont find waterloo So:
But like often all non-educated or even us, we see Napoleon with the Imperial Guard where the size was at least 1 meter 76 ^^ (and even 1 meter 90, yes, 1 meter 90 !!! Giants of this time!! ^^ for the Elit Regiment of the 1st Grenaders of the Imperial Guard) beside the Imperial Guard that made believe that Napoleon was smaller than the average what is false, he had a normal size of all Europeans of this time like you say
Napoleons corpse has been measured and it was 1 meter, 68 centimeter and 5 milimeters tall.
Napoleons guards had a requirment to be 1 meter and 80 tall so they could join the guard. Therefore from a distance it seemed like Napoleon was small.
His own soldiers called him Le Petit Corporal, but that was a "fun" name. Just like Montgomery was called "Monty" and Erwin Rommel was called "The Desert Fox".
The british even used the "Small" propaganda on Hitler.
@RoManLP15 It's all well and true what you just said there but please don't make the emperor feel like a woman. Because when you said "vive la empereur", "la (and le, les...)" means "the" in french (but "la" is used only for female words whereas "le" is for male words). So it's much better to say "Vive l'empereur!".
@NeoGracchus So he was a "nobleman" then? A nobleman pressing millions into a dreadfull service for the sake of conquoring?
Defending the ideals of the revolution, by drowning them with blood? And by breaking every single right of man which were proclaimed during the revolution? (as far as im aware absolutism is the contrary of what the revolution wanted to establish)
@BugMagnet its like you are thinking that napoleon lived in ore centiurie, he lived 200 years ago

Well, as much as Napoleon was a great general, he also was a mad tyrant and a liar. He took control of france with the promise of order and freedom but caused a 10 year long war instead. And he pressed milions of men into his service which contradicts basic human rights.
And contrary to being a master of artillery and infantry, he was only an aprentice in naval warfare.
@BugMagnet France is beginning to be one of the strongest and most culturel country in the world under napoleon and after the french revolution there was only chaos in France and Napoleon has take back justice and glory to france. ( HE SAVED FRANCE ) Great brittain will never let happened that france become to strong and declared war on napoleon (they toke russia, austria, prussia,... with them into war)
@f3wbs he made 6 million people get back their jobs and made germany get out of the financial crisis. Think again?. not including the killing of jews, except that he were the greatest leader
@f3wbs He was by no means an excellent tactician. In fact, every single decision he made on tactical level resulted in a catastrophy, take for instance the invasion of belgium. But I will give you, that he was an excellent social and political thinker. (Except for the genocide of all human races except aryans, that was just dumb...)
@Verradonairun invasion of belgium was not such a bad idea: to force the allies to have peace with hitler and after it concentrating everthing on everthing on russia. but you're right he made many tactical falts.
I should have made my thoughts more clear. I didn't mean that the invasion of Belgium was a mistake (I haven't even considered that) I'm talking about the way in which Belgium was invaded. You know, the fact that Hitler (against his generals' wishes) decided to send all of his mechanized units into Belgium through just one high way through a forest near France. This was a mistake considering the fact that the traffic jammed which gave the Belgians just enough time to mobilize. :)
@Verradonairun Well did not really put up a big fight. It took them only 8 days to conquer us, that's about the time you need to walk from the east of Belgium to the coast. But still over 6000 Belgian soldiers died in this brief war. The Germans lost 10 000 men(not only fighting the Belgians, but also the British and French forces.
You insult the troops who died, believing they fought for you, by saying that they didn't "put up a big fight" - some of them fought till death, which is far more than anyone could ever ask of them.
That aside; I know of the outcome of the campaign; I was merely referring to Hitlers (bad) decision to divide Belgium by projecting his forces in an extremely thin line based on a road that lead through a forest (can't remember the name) near France.
@Verradonairun No I don't I talked to men who fought in this war and they said that it was not a fair fight, they did not stand a chance. So yes, they did not put up a big fight. They spend most of the time retreating and surrendering. I don't want to insult the men who died, that is why I refer to them. But on a bigger scale, there was no real fight. The Germans overwhelmed our army. The battle was over before it began.
the only one decision i can think of is Russia, but i won't correct you. i know little about the invasion of belgium, but i do know his last stand was there. Code Napoleon ensured that all frenchmen had better economy, or was it?
No, I was talking about Hitlers invasion of Belgium. :)
Napoleon could not ensure that all frenchmen became more wealthy. But considering what he had to work with he achieved as much for his people as Hitler did for his, if not more. You see, there was no such thing as human rights, centralized government, economy, national security etc. in France before Napoleon; and after, there was. :-)
I do not hail from france, I hail from Germany/Prussia/Bavaria how ever you would say it at this time. My best friends frence sadly I am glad I am German, but I do respect Napoleon with great dignety

He did NOT start the wars, it was britain paying Prussia, Austria, Russia, german states etc so that they declared war on Napoleon!
They wanted to put the tyrant Bourbon family back in france, but France ahted that family!
