To share a stage with the most talented recording artist of the last 50 years must be exhilerating...this is a fabulous version of one Bruce's masterpieces.
"So funny when she messes up at the end! Two absolutely stellar live performers!"
What's really amazing anymore is that someone that posted on this site actually spelled all of the words in their post correctly. (And the word "their" is really supposed to be spelled this way, just in case you were wondering.)
Tiny Tim was at Asbury June 25, 1969. Bruce met him late that afternoon prior to 'the' thunder storm behind the boardwalk. The rest is speaks for its-self.
When I'm driving down the road and this version of the song comes on, I roll down the window and let the wind blow back my hair, belting the song out like I'm on stage with Bruce and Melissa.
@lillouk77 yeh looks like @ about 0:59 he nodds her up to the mic and she jumps back in (you ain't a beauty but hey you're alright...)! funny. Hell, i'm in awe just watching on youtube!
@Donger68 Yep - that must've been it! Couldn't blame her at all - and it's something like that which makes the performance so much real and beautiful!
I am from Leavenworth, Kansas. I never cared for Melissa until this video. If I ever run into her around here, I will ask her how awesome it felt to be a participant in a classic.
nothing in any other song compares to that first prechorus and chorus (''roll down the window and let the wind.." to "sit tight, take hold, thunder road"). the way it builds is and its pleading intensity, in most every version of thunder road from the boss, so intense, so good
Of course this is Bruce's song and he does it the best. But I would love to hear Melissa do it on her own too. Her voice/passion is so fitting to Bruce's music.
I was a little apprehensive when I clicked on it, I never really listened to Melissa Etheridge so I wasn't sure how she'd sound singing one of my favorite songs with The Boss. I wasn't disappointed it's an excellent performance.
Bruce Springsteen is the BEST ENTERTAINER of our time,, and he deserves a LifeTime Achievement Grammy award,,even though he still entertaining..lets recognize this enormous talent and thank God for giving him to our generation !!!! Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce
Really nice. Don't it jus' touch you in that place that wants to run and roll. No askin' permission. No waiting for approval. Just shootin' straight from the heart and headin' out.
I got into Springsteen's music in my late teens and have been an avid fan since - I am now in my 50s!!! He's one of those artists that stand for the causes he believes in and isn't afraid to be political when it helps a cause.
@ Anna00555: I couldn't have said it better myself! Goose bumps all over, this song really made me cry! The very best I've heard for a long time! This version is just amazing!
your posting made me very sad and if you want i can send you lots of cds with his albums. just send me an email with all the details necessary and i'll do that.
Goose bumps. This entire performance gives me goose bumps. When it begins and the audience recognizes the song, when Bruce first sings, when they first sing together, when they sing, "what else can we do now cept roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair," when they sing, "oh, thunder road, oh thunder road. When she sings, " I got this guitar and learned how to make it talk," when they song, "there were ghosts in eyes of all the boys you sent away." When...
If you wanna know how big a Boss fan Melissa is and how much it meant for her to play this song together with him, then you should read her story for American Icon. Gets tears in my eyes everytime I read it. Just Google melissa etheridge bruce springsteen and it will be the first hit
It doesn't get any better than this. They should do an Album together. They really compliment each other. If they neede any complimenting, They are bot amazing artists !! Bravo
Medical studies have shown that people with a pathologically protruded lower jaw, such as ol' Bruce, often have problems with headaches their entire lives. While this may be true, I believe Bruce's headaches may be more related to his music than the that lower drawer which he never seems to keep closed for some reason... (Keeps his socks there?)
I don't have a lower jaw protrusion, and yet I get constant headaches - whenever I hear Bruce belching out one of his many truck-driving songs. Unfair.
@FedorEight you're not funny or clever..just very sad. why would you search someone out that you don't like..only to be rude.for alot of women bruce is sex personified exactly because he is not a physical, cosmetic clone AND uses his heart and head to connect with everyone thru his songs.
You can just tell how this song touched her soul as well - amazing. Brings that feeling right back as though I'm 15 years old again - like someone mentioned in search of "love and freedom"
