One of my alltime favorites. If there are freight trains in heaven, Mr. Jimmie Rodgers is sure to be the Brakeman with a guitar instead of a billy club. Ben Dewberry's the engineer with the fireman from "Ol' Number 5" keeping up steam. We will allways be told we can ride & have money to spare.
I was 6 years old when Jimmie passed away, My mother loved his music she played his records a lot. I miss Jimmie and a few others that were around the sametime he was.
I love it. My grandfather was a railroad man so my father as a very young boy got to see and hear Jimmie at the roundhouse in Asheville, NC before he was discovered.
THAT is THE Most Beautiful Song I've ever heard done By Anyone..Jimmy was the best!! I sometimes wonder if I'm A Relative of his because my last name was spelled "Rodgers" until my great grand -father(Cherokee Indian) Dropped the "D" from the name so that it would be spelled like the Indians spell it. His Grand Father"Rodgers" ( A White man) had come from England UK
Maybe you're thinking of Hobo's Lullaby by Arlo Guthrie. It's got the lines 'I know the police cause you trouble, they cause trouble everywhere ............'
Whatever county you are in, there will be some restored steam trains. the sight, the sound the smell the vibration. Takes you bak at least 50 years. Do it this summer.
"country has alot of blues influence...atleast original country such as this. It did evolve quiet a bit though."
There was no such thing as Country or Blues as a genre of music before the 1940s. Jimmie Rodgers wasn't influenced by the Blues, it's the other way around! He laid the ground work for what would become the genres of Country and Blues in the late 1930s and early 40s. Before that there was no distinction between "country" and "blues". They simply didn't exist as distinct genres.
PS- If you just go listen to these old proto-country and proto-blues recording from the 1920s and 1930s you will hear that there is really no distinction between the music. The only real distinction at that time was the race of the performer. Country and Blues as distinct and separate genres didn't even come into being until around WW2.
as I do agree with you mostly, I disagree that the genre's did not exist yet. They may not have been widely heard but the did exist. The appalachin(sic) have been playing americana country since they got here. it just did not have a lable.
True, it has traditional blues elements ie., the I,IV,V progression. Elements of the music that are more traditional"Country" are the alternating bass line and the 3/4 time signature.
Interesting idea. Just what will heaven be like? Mine would include walking acros hills, with good companions, the bus always waiting at the stop, and the cafe with huge mugs of tea. But then, is it really for us to choose?
Thank goodness these recordings still exist. Still feels like ol' Jimmie's still with us. He's the original, and he wrote so many great songs that are still with us. Check out In The Jailhouse Now in the Coen Brothers' movie "O Brother Where Art Thou."

"There was no such thing as [...] Blues as a genre of music before the 1940s."
You're decades off. Documented references to "blues" as a type of music began before 1910.

It was because he was the first superstar of country music. He was the first to million seller of his records.
Many early stars started their careers immulating him and singing like him before they found their own styles.

Lighting Hopkins said one time, "Country is the white man's blues." That I think is east to agree with
