@LordHettrick I would recommend: 1) Marylin Horne (for vocality and coloratura); 3) Lucia Valentini-Terrani for the property of "accento" and 3) Bernadette Manca di Nissa for her wonderful contralto colour of the voice.
And I wouldn't absolutely recommend 1) countertenors and 2) Vivica Genaux, rare examples of 1) incosistency of the role and 2) Genaux can't sing.

Grande, grandissima interpretazione. E pazienza per il tempo sbagliato all'inizio. Mi dispiace per i falsettisti, ma non c'è nulla da fare: la voce di contralto/ mezzo-soprano è decisamente migliore per questo ruolo.
Tancredi is a female contralto. I do not like Kasarova!
