  • @leftyswerbo how is St. John's a "small" school, you dumbass?

  • People say how can he get by him without going out, he's guarding the baseline. He snuck/blew right by him. You only take the steps you take. And the great athletes are able to pay attention to where they're puttin' em down. Hardy was known as "The Baddest Man in Basketball" where he grew up.

  • I think a lot of people are forgetting that Hardy is going 26 mph here. to get back to the hoop from where he is you gotta have tremendous momentum to get ya back going the other direction, and in order to do that you gotta propel yourself with the back of your calves, which means getting your heels up and pushing off.

  • Anyone notice Super Bowl 43 it's not really clear whether Santonio Holmes' one foot was down, lol. Seriously, though. It's like they were both together but one of them I stared at and stared at and never saw conclusively hit red paint.

  • chunkytoe, you know how to screen capture right...fullcourt is computer right? you can freeze and post this image where he is out...i have looked EVERYWHERE on the net and the best evidence is this photograph...and this is far from clear evidence. Just imagine the camera being raised to perpendicular to the floor level right down the baseline and tell me if you really think you're gonna see the back of his feet down on the ground.

  • @leftyswerbo oh yeah...and if he's looking at his feet and misses a shooting foul, that's fair? He's only one ref. He gave a good look at the feet and then yes did look for foul as Hardy was about to take off, but he'd already decided not to call an out-of-bounds at that point, end of story.

  • Are you kidding me? Whoever said no replay was shown because ref blew the call???? They show blown calls all the time on Sportscenter....THEY HIGHLIGHT THEM....the best shot they had apparently was this overhead one and it doesn't look like he ever goes out. It honestly doesn't. People are so deceived by perspective. And anyway, by biggest point is always, what is the difference between the last play of the game and the first. Overall in this game, who knows who got more calls? Prob Pitt

  • I was there too...hardy was not out of bounds...as he pivoted to make the layup (and apparently go out of bounds) his heels left the ground and the only part of his foot on the court were his toes)

  • I was at this game pitt got almost every call and he was not out of bounds

  • duh!! its why it isnt being talked about too much. its obvious he was in. you should be on your toes when jumping.

  • Remember when Pitt stepped out of bounds last year playing WVU which eventually led them into 3 overtimes and a win? I guess Pitt had it coming. Good win, St. John's.

  • Pitt made too many mental mistakes in this game, the kind of mistakes a championship team cant afford to make. If they learn from this and I believe they will Dixon is too good of a Coach to let this get by. Panthers forced countles passes inside; when will guys learn you cant make a pass to a guy 6'11'' down below his knees. Look for Pitt in the FINAL 4 this Year. Hardy was out of bounds, that was the only way he could have made that play; add to it Pitt defense failed to help out on that side

  • Last comment...I watched the game live and didn't think a damn thing about his foot going out of bounds, you know and I was watching the game closely, just like mr. referee and he had a lot better angle, ya see? you watch for the stuff but when you don't see it at full speed you don't see it. & i'm still not conceding that he was out & it was still an incredible display of heart & determination.

  • chunkytoe where/s the footage/pic that shows him on out of bounds and anyways if it was just his heel on the white for a split-second and refs ref the game human error can't detect that AND I SAY HE GETS CREDIT FOR MAKING INCREDIBLE BACKWARD LAY-UP DUE TO THAT FACT. we scrutinize everything so much these days, and it is a terrible terrible habit. Fact is, it was just a basketball game.

  • Right at this moment he is preparing to jump and you see BOTH of his heels elevate...THE REF WAS STARING RIGHT AT THEM...his heels are ABOVE the boundary lines. The front of his feet (toes and part before the instep or flat foot) are on the floor still yes....BUT THEY ARE ON ORANGE PAINT, BABY!

  • check the full court shot of the play. it clearly shows that his heel was down.

  • @chunkytoe the full court shot. does show his foot flat on the floor conclusively BUT as a PITT fan I feel St. John's deserved the win on merit. A do over in the Big East tourney finals would be a gas!

  • @chunkytoe anyway you can get me a better shot. Also, I keep making the point. Why do they make such a big deal over the last play compared to the first. All 40 minutes are equal. When a ref really isn't sure, they should use the technology they have. The ref should say "I missed it. I'm not sure." Otherwise, the refs should ref and the players should play and there are some plays during the game that are controversial in every game.

  • yeah well lets talk about the fact the espn producers didn't show a replay from the camera man under the goal with a better view than the ref.

  • @asprinticus ; thank you !!!! No Replay was shown because the Reff blew the call or just didnt want to make the call. ESPN was NOT going to give the TV audience another look. When Reffs run off the court that fast its too late and Im willing to bet that someone on the Pitt bench was asking for the Reffs to take a look at the play. It was in NY & home game for St Jons; beating #4 they arent gonna take that away. Its a bigger story if the Jonnies win.

  • @SANDHERR7 yes and we all know from ESPN's standpoint that an upset over a number 4 team is a better headline than another st. john's loss

  • what were you one of the cheerleaders a foot away from him?

  • @Herronbird225 i was. HA ! so there.

  • tough call to make for sure

  • Replays on ESPN clearly showed he stepped out of bounds before he shot the ball.

  • @dukeofkilcaldy u cant tell if his foot is on the ground and to all the pitt fans blame the players for not making ur fts first

  • Brown forced him out of bounds. His foot is clearly outside the boundry line. The basket shoudn't have counted

Section 1. Out of Bounds—Player, Ball

Art. 1. A player shall be out of bounds when he or she touches the floor or

any object other than a player on or outside a boundary line. An airborne

player’s status shall be where he or she was last in contact with the floor.

  • @levolor51 His heel isnt down. Tharefore there was no contact

  • h ttp://twitpic.com/41jj4l/full shows both of them out of bounds

  • @alexisetsfire I think that was a photoshopped picture

  • His heel was not on the ground. That is a basket. I was there and saw it.

  • @spacey32 lol, Spacey "saw" his heels off the ground from his nosebleed seats, argument over folks...

  • @AllDaWay87 I was actually in section 12 row b seat 7

  • His heel was raised... he had all his pressure on the front of the foot. That's a misleading angle. He never actually touched out of bounds with his foot. Basket counts!!!

  • @onecooldad1974 your 100% right. If you look at the regular replay, the ref is starring at his feet when he drove, it was close but he was in. Long Story short if your a Top Ten team, stay away from Manhattan .... and avoid the GARDEN at all cost!!!

  • Meh, if it's just a little bit out of bounds, it's not that big a deal. I'll allow it.

  • @BMoney1979 LOL, exactly if it was out it definitely didn't even get the wood just the stripe, and from the angle it shows here, you'd think it could be up to 3 or 4 inches on the wood.
