This song, for whatever reason, was painful for me watching the movie because I knew he was *spoiler alert* going to meet his demise on this journey. The context in which they played this song--with Emile Hirsch standing solitary on a mountain-- would normally be a scene of triumph. In this film, however, knowing this wilderness was going to kill him--it was just heartbreaking. The song is more like a funeral march to me.
I would like to get some feedback on a song I made the other day, I know this is not the correct place to do this, but youtube deleted all the "music groups" and we've been screwed ever since XD . I hope you guys could check out this song and leave your feedback. I'll help me a lot.

are we not all searching for that "something else"....
we must realize that it is more than a search..it is a battle...a battle that defines who we are...a battle with the bullshit mind and thoughts that are created by the illusions...we must shed our ego and illusory selves to realize the simple yet intricate beauty of the moments we have in front of us...
for those of you that don't know.. this is the howling wolf.. and eddie vedder is a shaman. He was a red indian in another life. @ gwinnfreeland.....dude, he left for the wild because he was tired of the obsession of material things....he also had to take a journey for himself...he may have died in the end, but i think it's commendable that in a world today that is engrossed with material posessions he was better than that and would rather take his chances in the wild...unfortunately for him, it cost him his life.

It's pretty self explanatory , isn't it ? How much simplier can I make it ? Chris lived
around people, and he was alright. Then,
when he went to Alaska, he lived alone off the land, and he died. He didn't know that he was going to die. It's sad, but alot of people perish that way. Hunters , even in
areas that have people, get lost in the woods, and die. And why ? Because they've never adapted to the wilderness conditions. Alaska is huge. Too big to take
@gwinnfreeland I don't know if you've read the book or seen the movie, but he did pretty damn good out there, just made a couple mistakes that ended up costing him his life. Maybe there's a reason this happened, I mean look how many people have been inspired by his story, we probably never would of heard about it had he not dead. Still very sad thought, I mean he was planning to return. And you say he was alright around people, but he wasn't, he was dieing on the inside, he was free out there
Yes, he starved to death, but you have to be experienced to go live in the wild. You can't teach yourself skills in survival, without knowing what to look for first.
Chris was born and raised in a suburban
city area. He thought it was just a matter of going out alone in the wild, and eating what you harvest. He was na'ive, and he lost his life for it. A classic " fish out of water " story. The wilderness is unforgiving. He should have stayed where it was a warmer climate - in civilazation .
Almaroquer : Yes, Chris did not know enough about the wild to survive. He nearly drove himself to starving before he even ate those seeds that killed him. He tried to survive the best way he knew, but the environment and nature itself is unforgiving. If you fuck up, you don't get a second chance. I admire his courage, but in my case, I was already past the point of courage, I was just plain nuts.
@gwinnfreeland He died from [rabbit starvation] a condition were your body can't process proteins properly cause the meat you eat is very lean, you need fat to process proteins. Small game does'nt have much fat as you well know. There were no deadly seeds involved, thats hollywood story
I'm 56 years old, and I've lived in the wild in Alaska, after I had gone crazy from the Viet Nam war. All I wanted was to be left alone. I now live in Michigan , where the land is very much like Alaska. Chris McCandless wasn't
prepared for harsh environment. He was
a city kid, that knew nothing about the wild. It's something you don't learn from a book. It's about facing your deamans , and surviving all forms of torcher , to be alone. I was gone for along time. I needed time to heal.
@gwinnfreeland I was born in 1978 long after nam, but I'm glad you found what you were looking for out there, you deserve it .For you made the world what it was when i came into it and i'm forever greatful to you! Thank you.
can you stop following me about and asking me to get taller, come oni dont want to have you reported so come on now.... stop it. and this song IS about weed btw ftw lol rofl
There's something called sarcasm. I hope you're not that dumb.
Also, there's something called face value, at which you take everything.
But I realize I'm talking to some idiot who is just trolling for the fuck of it, so, whatever. Please, by all means, keep being an asshole. Don't mind me. Either that or you really are that stupid, in which case, it's pointless regardless.
WOW -- I THINK I've BEEN TO THAT PLACE IN THIS VIDEO -- is it located in French Alps of Southern France?? I believe the place was called Chamonix? I remember a small lake in the mountains that was a cloudy pale-blue color. Was there back in summer of 1990.
I've heard he had a deathwish. Iv'e heard all kinds of discections. For me, I don't care. The movie and the music make/made me think about who I really am as a human being, and what I truly want. It's a good question to ask of oneself. I am not my mothers daughter, I am not my fathers child. I am just me.
The one thing that distinguishes Chris from everyone here who says they want to get out or who say they are going to do a similar thing because society is messed up is that Chris did not need to share it with other people or in places like this. If anything, youtube is a PERFECT example of the kind of society that Chris wanted to run away from... If you have to share it here in advance (not talking about experience) it means you'll probably never be able to pull off a thing like he did...
I don't see how saying stuff like that in comments on youtube is sharing your happiness. Most of the answers you get here are not what you're looking for anyway. If you wish to share the kind of happiness that was shown in the movie, you should share it with your friends and family. If you desperately share it with the people here on youtube it means you are way too deep into the society that the people (who write they want to get away) loathe in their comments. That was my point.
@bukk3t I guess an award is better than no award at all. Kind of easy giving out awards without explanation isn't it? But thanks for the recognition nonetheless.
Uhm, It's a nice Thought. So to catch up happines we must shared our life with another person? antoher SPECIAL person, not any, but a special person who shares something with us?
My point is, I think people "romanticize" the Chris McCandless story far too much. If you point this out, they attack you and claim you are jealous of him.
The fact is, there are a lot of people who go out in the world and do adventurous things. I've met a lot of them. They're still alive.
The only think McCandless did to really distinguish himself form the rest is DIE,
Morecowbell69 - You should check out, The Call of the WIld, a documentary that was filmed by Ron LaMothe. To me, LaMothe finds that middle ground between a fool who starved in the wild, and a young man who was driven by something that is beautiful and pure and primal in all of us - the need to caste off all material things and go back into the wild and find oneself. His intent was was romantic in nature but he was ill-prepared for what he had embarked on and paid the price -- tragic!
@Broodjeunox56 You didn't know him. He'd say this is about Eddie's voice and be disgusted with this bullshit hype. This is raw and belongs to NO ONE. It's free man. If you are compelled to replay - you REALLY REALLY don't get IT.
@shelski72 I dont think i'm sure what you're getting at here and i'm also not sure he'd be disgusted. He had a vision and it was portrayed pretty well in the movie. I don't think the "hype" made his vision any less prominent. The only thing it did was spread that vision to so much more people. I don't know a single friend of mine that wasn't touched by the movie and i think that's what he'd want: Hand people a different look on the world that we live in. Well mission accomplished i'd say?
THE WILD is something you have inside. Facing it is a scary but exciting and beautiful journey. Freedom is waiting at the end of the road. God bless all the tramps on it.
Totally true about losing our freedom. We look for others to fix our problems and are dependent on government. It is time for people to get out their and do something with their lives. You only have one life to live. Unless you believe in Buddhism which I have no problem with people believing in their own religion.

The "poison seed" theory has been discreditied though testing. Krakauers "new" theory (in the new edition of the book) is that his seeds grew fungus.
But, a theory is all it is, with nothing to back it up. He needs these theories to keep the story romantic.
The truth, that he starved to death in shrubby tundra, with very few game animals to shoot, isn't very romantic.
morecowbell69 2 years ago 2
That depends vey much on what you would define as romantic.
For instance, if you were to look up the period of time from which the art was described as 'Romantic' you'll find a lot of killings and misery.
What I'm trying to say is, Romantic is not the same as Romance

My point is, I think people "romanticize" the Chris McCandless story far too much. If you point this out, they attack you and claim you are jealous of him.
The fact is, there are a lot of people who go out in the world and do adventurous things. I've met a lot of them. They're still alive.
The only think McCandless did to really distinguish himself form the rest is DIE,
and have his story glorified in a book.
Hey, maybe he really WAS a great person,
But the glorification is silly.

If you are compelled to replay - you REALLY REALLY don't get IT.
shelski72 1 year ago

Where to? THE WORLD?
How?
Good question.
Then again, the only one holding me back is me, myself and I.
Oh yes, and those corporate fucks.

Totally true about losing our freedom. We look for others to fix our problems and are dependent on government. It is time for people to get out their and do something with their lives. You only have one life to live. Unless you believe in Buddhism which I have no problem with people believing in their own religion.

Pixelou 3 years ago
Merci Pixelou.

Solexman79 3 years ago
Ah, il y a encore de l'espoir ;). C'est filmé ou précisement? Peut-etre que je connais la place. En tout cas, le panorama est magnifique

Bonjour!
