Can somebody please tell me again why it is that I need to treat a backwards desert religion that subjugates women and calls for the death of anybody who doesn't believe in that desert religion as if it has an equal footing in the civilized world? I understand that most Muslims are not militant however I'm tired of being affected by the idea that somehow just because a group believes in something that makes them lobby and fear rational thought..somehow that deserves my respect.
Hate crime laws punish thought and deny equal protection. They are stupid and unnecessary and should be overturned by the courts.
Didn't Matthew Shepherd's killers get the max? The four low-lifes in Texas who dragged the black man to death all got the death penalty. So why do we need a new law? To execute them a second time? Just plain stupid.
In Canada Islamists have sued writers(Mark Steyn) for hate speech, not because he defamed muslims with lies but because he quoted a British imam. They did not deny the imam made the statement, they sued Steyn because it offended them. Is this what we have to look forward to? Will we lose our 1st Amendment rights for speaking the truth? This Bill will be used as a weapon against the truth if certain groups feel offended. Our elected officials have chosen to be our enemies.
