  • The only hymnals I would recommend apart from the Graduale are the St. Michael, Vatican II, Adoremus, and Westminster Hymnals.

  • The single best thing any parish can do for it's spiritual health is to remove all OCP products from the church. Much of the cheesy elevator music favored by OCP was composed by ex-priests and ex-nuns, as well as liberal theologians, and is overseen by the Archdiocese of Portland, one of America's most disobedient dioceses. GIA products are just as bad theologically, though the music was written by actual musicians. The only hymnals I would recommend besides the Graduale are the St. Michael, Va

  • Gather Rocks!!!!!!!!!!

  • @NickPaprocki55 Worship is better, however, the forthcoming Worship IV is a disappointment (as is the rest of the GIA stock as of late).

  • We have a guy at our parish we call Lounge Boy. He bangs away on a guitar playing all sorts of inappropriate chords and arrangements, yells out the verse before it comes up and sings with a strained, often too loud voice with his lips right on the microphone like a rock singer. He plays all the OCP crap and worse. He faces the congregation like he's playing a concert and stampedes his way through EVERY verse, making the priest wait for him to end in a big flourish. It is my weekly penance.

  • Nice work, Mr.Page! As a chorister myself, I love the traditional liturgical music, whether in Latin,English, German or Slavonic.

  • OCP is repulsive, lol.

  • My beef with them is that most of their modern hymns are overly syncopated, contain questionable theology, and are exceedingly narcissistic. Their traditional hymns (what few they have left) have been denuded of masculine references to God, have had words changed (yearly!) to reflect OCP's infatuation with social justice, and are mostly arranged for keyboard instead of organ. There is practically no Gregorian chant, which Vatican II specifically calls for.

  • The best thing one can do for OCP is to stop buying their products and pray that they go out of business.

  • I told Bari at OCP via e-mail one time that they need to build a product that will compete with Worship II/III and not with Gather.

BTW - I like the screen name "audi nos" (hear us).

    Peace,

  • "Motu mania." LOL!
