The issue is two-fold: are they NORMALLY on the floor, or are they NORMALLY hiding in the office, and how do they handle this incident. Employees always whine about their bosses. Often, what they say is NOT true...they are simply upset that someone expects them to work for their pay. Also, it is AMAZING how many people bitch, then do EXACTLY the same if promoted...
