I loved Basketball Diaries years ago when I was a teen. They just played it on cable tonite and I re-watched it. We didn't use computers a lot back then when it first came out & I don't remember knowing it was a true story. I am saddened to know this great person is now gone so young. RIP
Wow..this is great. I only know "People That Died", but after reading The Basketball Diaries I wanted to check out his bands other songs..glad I did...
You. You my very close friend Jim, are the truth. You are the truth spoken of our souls, for our souls, for us few. God is lathered with the anticipation that you might read for he. Cast your light from shredded veins and pulsed fists into words that God himself has awaited.
You sang as a jagged metal tainted edge as songbirds played with time and scale. You dirty street poet, you ripped at our sinew and synapse, you dragged our sweet child existence into a dream-scarred realization that Love, Pain, and brotherhood trumps a white light, in a cold collapsed vein and brilliance...brilliance...is the white light our souls crave.
You pale white duke. Your blood coursed the needle and pumped your veins. You jacked our adrenaline and shared our pain. You made the shadows that scorned us seem a shaded friend.
Jim did the poem 'eight fragments for kurt cobain' I wonder who'll honour jim with a poem? Art and addiction seem to be twined and a legacy. It's a tragic but beautiful thing.
Thanks for posting this, it still is one one my favourite songs (end 70's I think). I still have the album, all scratched ofcourse and I even don't have a record player anymore. So this was more than welcome.
Every thing i listened to from Jim Carroll Band is great .

Great advice, especially if you come from old school NYC. The book is a classic.

I adore this album. I listened to it endlessly when I was, like, 14. Did you digitize this song? Can you do more?!!
