He's doing quick carves. By doing that you scrub a lot of your speed and could go that slow. I would have expected a little faster but it's possible to scrub that much speed.
hey can anyone give my the lat and long or directions from the airport, me and the wife are gonna fly from Brasil to do this road P.S. are there any good longboarding shops there??
@d256138f It's the road between Wanaka and Queenstown(15minutes drive from Queenstown airport). Get back in touch with me if you are coming and i will show you our good local spots. Not many longboarding shops around here, only online shops (Border Lines, Ultimate Boards, and Hopkin Racing)+some local board builders. You can have a look at the Wanaka Longboard Association group on Facebook..
Thats the Crown Range on the Queenstown side. You gotta be careful enough drivin down this steep twisty bitch in car, let alone a longboard! You got vehicles coming up the hill on your right, hairpins, potholes, and a 1000 ft drop on your left (don't worry, your wearing a full face helmet and the guard rail is at knee height so you'll go over the side head first) It sure as hell ain't the Bombay Hill I can tell you that much!
Dude that is amazing. Good job! And to all the people giving him crap for not tucking, you all need to shut up. If he were to tuck he would go faster, but what happens if you go to fast for a turn? You fall of the edge of a cliff and die. This guy is smart and he truly has balls of steel!!
Well I posted some time ago about this road.I traveled from uk and did a tour on 40 year old bsa motorcycles and I got to travel this road.Thx for the heads up on it:))
this is insane bro, to everyone who doesn't know this road, like Temakomako said it's fucking gnarly, you take one wrong angle you're completely fucked, the road is the best fun i've ever had driving, can't imagine how sick it would be on the board, did you do the queenstown end where it has all the hairpins?
Thanks bro for your comment. Yes have have done the Queenstown end where it has all the hairpins (but not filmed :( ). I did It a few time 3 years ago before they did the road enhancements.. Road was very tight but It was fine. Pavement is crap, but good and smooth in the hairpins. This last part is not as hard IMO, you can tuck on straight lines and break just before entering hairpins. It's more a European style DH road.
A Big ups to Pierre... If you aint from NZ, then you have no idea how this road goes... you go off the side... and its straight down cliff faces for about 1000 metres... I've driven this road to trying to boost thru to Qtown, avg speed in a car around these corners is about 60-70km... I'm sure you can charge thru faster on a board.. Case and point... plus our roads are super crap LOL... no smooth tarsealed here bro... more like cheese grater face waster material
hes not tucking and standing up will slow you down like a brick wall, also i reckon the man doesnt want to tuck and accidently fall off the face of new zealands highest highway(death)
The road is much steeper in real that it's could look on the video. Also It's an open road so I take It easy as I never know if I will cross a car.
Have you ever crashed on a guardrail or talk about it with motorbike riders? That kind of guardrails are only safe for cars. When you are falling from a bike, skateboard,... on them, they just act as a guillotine! It's even safer for longboarding if there is no guardrails (of this kind) at all
As you may not noticed, I'm wearing a full face helmet, knee pads, and under my jacket an other protection jacket including back, shoulder and erbrow protec. It never good for our sport taking risk to have a bad crash, and safety always go first
Cool footages, just that it's pretty weird for us frenchies who use to ride on the other side of the road ! otherwise i'm truy glad to see one of my disciples riding that way after such a long while ! amazing ...
The Road is Crown Range Road, this is the road joining Wanaka to Queenstown, passing by the Cardrona Valley. If you plan to ride this road, go safe and choose the good moment as this road can get a lots of car traffic... Enjoy it!...
I was in New Zealand this summer backpacking and drove this highway on my way to Wanaka. The entire time I was thinking to myself how sick it would be to bomb it. Awesome video, next time I make it to NZ, my longboard will definitely be making the trip with me.
On this run I was riding a Sector9 carbon trylam with RandalII 180, Black bushing, Krytonic Classic blue (80a)80mm and kryptonic abec7 bearings.
The asphalt is pretty average, but good enought to longboarding at reasonable speed. Some part are better than other, and good point for us, Asphalt is good in all the major turns. On the other side of the summit, there is an other run, very steep, with less turns, and a brand new black sealing... Very fast!...
hey man tbh u didnt really bomb this highway it was more carving! but all and all good shit man i wouldnt even go down this road on my bike!!!

Probably safer to ride some NZ roads on a long board than in a car.. Just the up hill part would be a bit of a challenge.

Did you have the wind against you the whole run? Ive done hills similar here but none are as long and incredible background/landscapes like you have.
But yeah it seemed you could have been going alot faster, whats up with that?
Slyptid 2 years ago
hes not tucking and standing up will slow you down like a brick wall, also i reckon the man doesnt want to tuck and accidently fall off the face of new zealands highest highway(death)
YOURANOOBTRUSTME 2 years ago
Still, Standing is way more dangerous, higher point of gravity, wayy more wobble and higher chance of speed wobble etc..
Tucking your in control the whole time as you're picking up speed.
And since hes wearing full body armor id reckon the man should have tucked it a bit more.. besides i see plenty of guardrails.
Looks safe to me.
