  • Is water on Mars radioactive?

  • @ijansk no

  • have you seen E.T. ?!

  • i bet there are caves on mars that are full of life :O

  • @bullfrogeth Possibly.

  • Maybe you could fill a fire extinguisher or two with it and put out a fire...

  • Hit it with a 2000 lb. JDAM, see if it fills the crater.

  • amazing shit, imagine the stuff they will find there under the ground, at least microbes.

  • How hard would it be to actually catch water in the act?

  • YEEEEAAAAAAAH

  • This is old news, now NASA decides to release it to the masses.. keep your secrets NASA I already know what I need to about you and about Mars.

  • @mobspeak MRO team wasn't intentionally keeping this secret, all of their data is public domain and can easily be accessed by anyone. However, scientists don't like to main statements about features when only a few cases of evidences have been reviewed. They observed these surface features for a couple of years and now that the data is overwhelming they released it in an official statement.

  • @mobspeak martians?

  • @mobspeak hello sir, i believe i have found your tinfoil hat at my house. it was puked out by a dinosaur ufo zombie

  • @mobspeak Martians are coming to get ya. Check under your bed, they're already here!

  • meybe its oil

  • Made me thirsty.

  • Theres a lot more volatiles than just water "at those temperatures." Runny, but inconclusive. Besides didn't that one lander that dug the ice cap "permafrost" discover that even though water ice is present its in miniscule amounts mixed with carbon dioxide and ammonia, methane, etc? And all that stuff volatized as soon as it was uncovered? That you would have to mine tons of "ice" to get a cup of water?

  • @intrptr that's what I heard as well but you never know what different findings might say.

  • @intrptr: I'd love to see them send another probe to investigate those dark streaks further and confirm their hypothesis. I guess they think it's more likely to be liquid water this time because these streaks aren't acting like the previous "permafrost" they examined.

  • mind=blown

  • @EqualAndFree thats why haiti had no signs of growth and advancements. their voodoo and witches kept them paralyzed.

  • @EqualAndFree im sure this corrupted government of assassinations/murders and lies isnt any better than the witch killing villagers.

  • @EqualAndFree dont blame God for what the church did. and im sure you wouldnt want a witch living next to you putting spells on innocent people. our government basic tradition of in "God we trust" is what made this nation what it was about 4-7 years ago. now that we abandoned our tradition the foundation of this country is decaying fast.

  • Howdy, stranger! This is Hauser. If things have gone wrong, I'm talking to myself and you don't have a wet towel around your head. Now, whatever your name is, get ready for the big surprise. You are not you, you're me.

  • I say we add some more water and microbes and see if stuff evolves. lol

  • @nicpetnic The only obstacle to extremophile life there, that I can think of, is radiation, because there's no magnetosphere. But life always finds a way...

  • Dammit Cohagen, give deez peeple de water!

  • liquefaction?

  • There's no face on mars, that's just a hill...

  • Excellent proofs!

  • I like how NASA gets good detail resolutions and color on this nut the face on mars is distorted imagine that :) just pleasing the masses tid bits is all

  • technology isnt a good excuse to call this age more civilized than society hundreds of years ago.

  • Does no one else watch Dr. Who? NOT EVEN A DROP!!!

  • @EqualAndFree no, im talking about the Bible. the past, modern and future truth. stop separating science and the Bible. modern society seems even more barbaric than society centuries ago.

  • @EqualAndFree science itself started with the beliefs. letting go of all beliefs would mean the destruction of society. the beliefs are correct. the Bible is the perfect guide to make a healthy society. all scientist did and now do is expand on the tradition beliefs that started it all. Adam and Eve were not fools who had no knowledge, they had knowledge that started society.

  • @EqualAndFree like i said there are two meanings for the world "element". the four elements and the chemicals that modern day scientist now call elements of the periodic table. just because your opinion towards the belief systems of religions is negative doesnt mean your opinion is true.

  • @EqualAndFree actually modern science supports the Bible and the Bible supports modern science. like i said lets not get into the God and modern day beliefs topic. that includes the topics of the Bible and church. the Bible in no way is a science book. so if you are trying to compare science and the bible thats just silly. science started with the beliefs of the elements. scientist started by studying fire, air, water and earth. it also started with the observation of the surroundings.

  • It's so disappointing to have religious aspects creep into these videos. Ok, it's a democracy & if you want to restrict your thinking to religious doctrines then go ahead but, leave it at the pulpit please.

  • There is evidence of water on the moon why not mars? Ok, it's not gushing rivers but, it's there. Just one more component to going to mars.

  • @EqualAndFree there you go. trying to take a shot at God. ok we dont need to, okay moving on. i hope

  • @EqualAndFree there are 116 chemicals that interact with the elements. wait? so all you did was change water, air, fire and earth to your own scientific way of saying it. solid, liquid, gas and plasma? change of words to the same idea.

  • @EqualAndFree please lets not go any further into the topic of God.

  • @EqualAndFree modern knowledge had a beginning, and that beginning started with traditional beliefs. are you an atheist? that would explain everything. geology began when humans decided to dig and explore what that earth THE BIBLE talks about is.

  • @EqualAndFree the "outdated medieval" concept of elements IS correct. they just didnt go into details into what different chemicals make up the elements. only because you refer to it as medieval doesnt mean it is.

  • @EqualAndFree two people using the excuse of "old beliefs"? why always blame a religion? why so anti- religions? lol

  • @EqualAndFree and like i said. there are in fact two meanings for "element".

  • @EqualAndFree water: the element responsible for life.

mars liquid: the martian liquid found on the dead red planet.

that much more simpler. ugh... scientist make things so hard;) simpler is better

  • @solve809,

LMAO. You just gotta be a Troll!

    adieu!

  • @StinkFingerr if im a troll what are you? i thought trolls were ignorant web raiders exploring the web to write offensive comments they are too scared to say to someone in real life. am i offending you? no

  • *Contretemps. Pardon

  • @StinkFingerr its okay. we all make mistakes.

  • @solve809,

okay, but being willfully ignorant is not a virtue.

I'm only trying to help you avoid another cringe-inducing Contretems. IGG but I will wait for a bit if you wish to reply.

  • @StinkFingerr yes, isnt a virtue. so please stop being ignorant. ok, bye.

  • @EqualAndFree hydrogen plus oxygen= water. they are in fact elements, but not chemicals. home schooled people are actually smarter i heard. bill gates taught himself.

  • @solve809, Seriously, Google the periodic table of the elements. It will help you avoid this faux pas in the future. Really really.

  • @StinkFingerr no, im tired:0) there is no need for research when the facts are so obvious.

  • @solve809,

That we do my friend, that we do. And hopefully they have better taste in beverages! LOL

  • @StinkFingerr hopefully they arent drinking while doing there job. that would explain many scientific mistakes though.

  • @solve809,

Me too,but I fear it is serious as it caused brought a halt to his studies.

  • @StinkFingerr well, at least we have scientist after scientist to fill in his job.

  • @solve809, Items find their way onto the periodic table, is because they cannot be reduced further. Hence, they are elements.

What you are referring to is from ancient religious beliefs & alchemy.

  • @StinkFingerr ancient religious beliefs? is that your excuse? nice try. religious beliefs arent ancient if even they knew that.

  • @solve809, Lol, okay.

Johnny believed he was drinking H2O, which is water.

What he actually imbibed was H2SO4, which is sulfuric acid.

  • @StinkFingerr i hope hes doing alright.

  • @solve809,

A quick Google of the table of the periodic table of the elements, will fail to turn up no H2O among them.

    Honest Buddy!

  • @StinkFingerr wait? so because scientist placed H2O on the periodic table is now a chemical?no.

  • @solve809,

Okay, here is a chemical poem for you.

" Johnny studied chemistry, he studies it no more,

for what he thought was H2O, was H2SO4"!

  • @StinkFingerr um, i dont get it.

  • @solve809,

Oxygen,is an element, hydrogen, is an element.

    Water, is a chemical ( H2O).

  • @StinkFingerr water is an element just like air and the earth are elements.

  • @solve809, I thought I just said that. Won't you take Yes, for an answer? And I didn't even get into what happens if you farm with it!

  • ok? are you really gonna continue with your joke. have fun

  • If there is water in mars doesn't that mean that there is life?

  • @vibing92

    ...No...

  • @ solve 809, Yes, you are totally right & I totally agree.

But hold on, there is more to the description of the transformation.

You will grow long stiff sausage-ike fingers which constantly flex open & closed backwards. this martian wierdo water will make you develop circular lips which resemble a little ruby red donut that pulses in & out as you walk. Your reptillian eyes will of course bug out in different directions.

Thank you for being the sole voice of reason here!

  • @StinkFingerr ok, the joke is over. the obvious fact that water is not a toxic liquid found on mars would be obvious to anyone.

  • Mars is the Answer !

  • mars...the new earth

  • Bravo to JPL for confirming what amateur researchers have theorized for decades...

  • and water is not a "chemical". water is one of the elements.

  • @solve809 um water is not an element. its a chemical. water is made from 3 elements ( 2 oxygen and 1 hydrogen) didn't you take basic science ?

  • @itachisan02 actually water is an element. how do you know martian liquid has oxygen and hydrogen?

  • @itachisan02 ps. there are 2 definitions for elements. the basic elements of air, water and earth. and also the complex elements in the periodic table.

  • @EqualAndFree unless you want to jump on an unknown liquid on mars.

  • @EqualAndFree troll? why? actually water is what you see the fishes swimming in.

  • great video, showing running liquid water in the gullies...

  • Life on mars.

  • I see this finding has already been published in the August 5, 2011 edition of Science. To me this means that the discovery must at least be 1 or 2 months old and since we have not had any announcement from NASA regarding a change in Curiosity's landing site, they will not land Curiosity there.

  • nope.

  • @solve809,

Yes, it is bizarre martian Wierdo Water that will cause you to transform into a Faggy monster with three reptillian eyes & a drooling Dick where your nose used to be.That, plus four legs & three flatulent Butt Cheeks!

Just ignore these guys. They aren't as informed as you are.

  • @StinkFingerr what the heck got into to you? first, come the heck down. 2nd the obvious of this not being water doesnt take a scientist. juice is sweetened water but they dont call it water for a reason.

  • If this is water, then this should facilitate colonizing Mars. Besides drinking & plant growing water, you can extract oxygen from water.

All you need is a little reactor. In fact you can extract hydrogen from water as well.

  • I hope that the next "Curiosity" rover will land here instead of that crater!

  • High resolution imaging video broadcast at 360p it this a joke?

    360p, really?

  • Fuck yah.

  • Present

  • There's now 85% chance of extant biology being presence on Mars.

  • Well, there you have it. Water flowing on Mars. That is big news.

  • great discovery

  • ITS OIL GOD DAMMIT

  • right, wheres my surf board

  • Definately interesting

  • The fact that we have discovered it is a wonderful human achievement, the fact that it is there like any other shared chemical that makes up the whole universe should be no surprise to anyone. The whole universe is made out of the same stuff

  • water? its a world thousands of miles away! who knows what that is. but water? no.

  • @solve809

What do you think it is?

    Kool aid?

    xD

  • @solve809 no. prob something deadly that will kill you 2 mins after drinking it. or maybe its just sand brushing off the surface.

  • @solve809

You do realize that ice water had already been discovered there...right?

  • @BCT071 martian ice water isnt exactly earth ice water.

  • @solve809

Earth salt water isn't exactly Earth fresh water.

    What's your point?

I'll bet you one bajilliontrillionzillion US dollars it's water!

  • @BCT071 earth fresh water and salt water support earth animals. martian doesnt.

  • @solve809 Water is composed of hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, and oxygen, the third most abundant element in the universe, and thus is extremely common. Mars doesn't have an exotic and mysterious chemical composition; it's made of the same stuff as the Earth, more or less, and it would be a stunning revelation if this turned out to be something other than water.

  • @Peter5930 in other words it would kill me.

  • @solve809 It would, but so would most of the water here on Earth. Martian ground water outflows are likely to be about as hazardous to your health as terrestrial sea water.

  • @Peter5930 most of the water here on earth has a lot of living life though. martian- "liquid", as i prefer calling it doesnt have any life giving properties to it. maybe it's their miss use of the word "water". i see water as something only found in our planet, but liquid could be found in many parts of the universe. our water nurtures life and cleanses the dirty.

  • @solve809 Water was found on Mars in 2008, it's not a misuse of the word. For example, Europa (one of Jupiter's moons) may have upwards of twice as much water as Earth.

  • @JoshuaFVrooman the traditional definition of the word water is life giving. living waters. not toxic liquid that destroys life instead of nurturing it.

  • @solve809 The definition for water is a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid, a compound of hydrogen and oxygen, H2O, freezing at 32°F or 0°C and boiling at 212°F or 100°C, that in a more or less impure state constitutes rain, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc.: it contains 11.188 percent hydrogen and 88.812 percent oxygen, by weight.

  • @JoshuaFVrooman something europa doesnt have but earth does.

  • @solve809 Europa, Genymede, Callisto, Neptune, and even our moon all have WATER. You should probably do some research, your ignorance is frustrating.

  • @JoshuaFVrooman if you call something that would kill life water then go ahead. a liquid isnt always water. do your research and see what the heck that "water" in europa really IS.

  • @solve809 You're wasting my time, go host a petty argument elsewhere.

  • @JoshuaFVrooman ok, bye.

  • @solve809 I thought water was H2O, no matter where it is. And if it's liquid, it should have life.

  • @CosmicDiscoveriesCom if its life giving liquid it wouldnt be on a dead planet. H20 plus unknown elements equals formula for suicide.

  • @solve809 I'm not sure what you mean by life giving liquid, water is Hydrogen and Oxygen, it may or may not contain life. It seems that the flowing water on Mars is of salty compositions, like our oceans, so we couldn't drink it, obviously, without desalination. But it's there's nothing especially "Alien" about it. I'm more worried about solar wind bombardment of the surface of Mars.

  • @CosmicDiscoveriesCom by life giving water im talking about earth's water. water isnt liquid we find on a planet. i stick with the traditional definition of water, and that is the waters that nurture earth.

  • @solve809 Martian water could be teeming with microbial life for all we know.

  • @Peter5930 unfortunately theres to proof of that at all.

  • @solve809 Floating around for a week in the vacuum of space would kill you, but it doesn't kill the water bear (an extremophile microorganism). Life is very diverse and can adapt to a wide range of conditions if the most basic prerequisites are present.

  • @afederdk is that right? why havent we found life? lets face it, life can only occur in the PERFECT conditions. not a floating liquid a telescope took a pic of, and we decided to call that water.

  • @Peter5930 I think NASA should now delay Curiosity rover's launch and reconfigure it not only to land in this area, where we now know there is liquid water, but also to have instruments to study not just fossils, as it is designed to now, but also to detect actual microscopic biology.

  • Very interesting..

  • Discovery of a century?
