so my cousin sold me this phone....and i dont have the requrd plan.... my plan is calls only. so wut would happen if i put my sim card in this phone? will they start charging me for the internet? cuz my friend found an iphone.. he used his sim card, and then, in the bill, it said that he had to pay for the "internet".. so idkk help?
I have this phone on ATT and can vouch that it gets greater than 3g speeds on ATT. In the southern california area, depending on area, it will get EDGE, 3G and HSDPA(enhanced 3G) speeds.
@IThinkNowListenUp Could you show me where to get an unlocked version of this phone to work on At&t's 3G network? I'm very interested. I thought you needed the UMTS850Mhz Band to get 3G in which I don't think this phone has.
@hanspotato22 actually my brother what you said its reversed. It will get edge on tmobile and 3g on att. That is if we are talking about the unlocked european galaxy s
@hanspotato22 i cant get 3g on my galaxy s how do you get it to work my wi fi is off and nothing hapend is not going automatykly on 3g i do not known whay please help me thenks
If you have a $15 non-smartphone unlimited data plan, will ATT automatically move you to the $25 smartphone 2GB data plan once they detect the IMEI of this phone? When you guys log into your ATT account, what phone doe it say they detect? Also, for those using this phone in Los Angeles and Orange County, are you getting 3g speeds? Anyone know the bands being used by ATT in Orange County in Los Angeles - 850,900, 2100?
@krakheadmon Thanks for the info. What are your speedtest net results and in what city are you located? I'm trying to get an idea if you need both 850,1900 or if 1900 alone is good enough 3g speed for my area( or a city with similar infrastructure).
@dinged2000 the Galaxy S (i9000) Only supports one 3g band for att ... 1900. With one band alone you are able to get hsdpa on att if you are in the area.
I didnt look at my video ... but when i was making it from what i remembered i got 2.4 down and 1.7 up i think
@krakheadmon i cant get 3g on my galaxy s how do you get it to work my wi fi is off and nothing hapend is not going automatykly on 3g i do not whay please help me thenks

Does anyone know if ATT will automatically move you to the "smartphone data plan" with this phone? I know there are some phones, such as the Nexus One, where ATT will automatically move you from the $15 unlimited plan to the more expensive $25 2GB limit smartphone plan. When you guys log into ATT, does it detect your Samsung or does it say "unknown" device? Also, anyone know the dominant 3G band for Los Angeles and Orange County - 850, 1900, 2100?
do you get 3g connections on it? because i just got it and i put my att sim card in, i can text and call but i cant use the net the 3g doesnt turn on.
Could you try to install an another Home ( ADW Laucher please ) and see if it works well ? ( example the samsung widgets are working with an another home ? )
serioulsy i can't stand the IPHONE like interface...*
The android music widget can work propely with the samsung music player ?
Could you set the volume , change music , while listening via your bluetooth headset ( I actually Got the HBH DS970 ).
@DrymR@DrymR I can install the launcher, but only thing that dont work is the samsung widgets. Everything else works fine ... vertical apps menu(in 3d also) homescreens etc
Yes you can use the bt headsets to adjust volume playback etc.
Good video. I should be getting my Galaxy S tomorrow, also from Clove. I owned the Omnia 2 last year and it also only had the 1900 band and I got 3g fine as well. 1900 is still very prevalent on the east coast from what I've seen of maps.
I'm also used to the plastic build (Omnia 2 was the same way). Lighter is better, I think. Especially when it comes to larger devices.
The heavier the device, the more damage it will do due to gravity.
Force = Mass x Acceleration.
Acceleration is constant, if you increase mass ( weight), you will increase force by that much.
So having a lighter device is actually better to protect your investment. Besides, its easier and cheaper to replace a plastic covered back than a heavy metal covered back. We all know that people will scratch the crap out of their phones any how.
@ConceptVBS you are right ... thinking back now with my x1, just having it in my pocket with nothing in it after a while the paint on the back cover began to fade.
No problems at all setting it up, I just popped in the sim card and it detected it automatically.
One thing I should mention, maybe it was just me but in options phone voicemail selecting google voice as your primary vmail provider gave me an error.
What I had to do was go into google voice online and send myself the text message from settings for my mobile.
Hey, I see your using the internaional version on AT&T's 1900 bands. Did you have any problems setting up the phone at all? If you have experience with other AT&T phones, do you feel that the lack of 850 bands is slowing or hindering your 3G connection speeds or coverage? I am planning to get the international one because I prefer this design.

@creed90 you can get a widget fro the marketplace called 'APN' which puts a widget on a homescreen that allows you to turn the 3G on and off at will
