Wow you must of received a really flawed monitor. I've had none of this issues you speak about and my monitor is 2yrs old and is on in my office at least 14 hours a day. Sorry you were given such a Lemmon.
The red borders to the text could be an issue with ClearType if you're using the monitor in a vertical configuration, as you were in your review. ClearType works on a sub-pixel rendering (see wikipedia article) and vertical config isn't currently supported.
I just purchased 2 Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP monitors on eBay a few days ago and I originally used VGA cables to connect the monitors. I notice the same issues with the monitors that 3DGameMan has described. However, after using the DVI cables, there were no more issues w/ the monitors. ONLY BUY THIS MONITOR IF YOU PLAN ON USING DVI OR HDMI (which this monitor supports). DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU PLAN TO USE VGA CABLES (because it has very very bad support for analog)
It's not just the VGA, its the combination of VGA and the 1920x1200 resolution as analog signal cannot scale well to that res.
Even so, I do agree with the saturation that this monitor has and web development is very difficult. This monitor has some of the largest lag time I have ever seen. Also it is just shit...
Question for you, Rodney. Have you ever had a mura affect appear on a display of yours, and if so, if you've any tips for removing them without filing for an RMA? I have dual Samsung 2443BWX and have noticed a slight darkening at the lower right-hand side, was about to complete an RMA, but noticed it's beginning to fade after a few months.
i still have a dell dimension 2350 (i think 5 years old now) and it still runs fine. i wont say it was good for the money at the time but it didn't suck
that was very likely a driver issue or a combination of software you installed on the computer to make it unstable, either one of them issues is hardly dells fault except that they should have tested the hardware configuration
it was a shit mobo. they where known to be bad. it worked for a while then it started giving bsod reinstalling windows was no help then they replaced parts. it was fne then for a while again and the same thing happened again. then they the replaced the whole system and it starded doing it again after a month so i got money back and built my own system and i have had no trouble at all from it.
then it wasn't dells fault, it was the motherboard, but dell shouldn't have picked that one if it was known to be bad
other contributing factors could have been the date the computer was released and the date the motherboard was released. if they were both new when they came out then dell still couldn't have have know future problems that would occur
I have a Hannspree 28" HF289H LCD Monitor. I got it for about $400. The inputs it has are 2 HDMI inputs, 1 Component Video input, 1 PC VGA (D-Sub) input, Audio In, Headphone Out. It accepts multiple inputs so I use it for my PC / HDMI to DVI (1st HDMI input), Xbox 360/ 2nd HDMI input. I use the built-in speakers for my Xbox 360 thanks to the HDMI. Oh, it also has a native resolution of 1900x1200, or slightly better than 1080p.
I have an acer h233h 23 inch monitor, and i love it aswell. I got mine with a three year warranty for the same price as the standard price (on sale) And i had one dead pixel, but got rid of it by pushing on it with my finger. :D
monitors 30" and up are 2560x1600 (almost 100% of the time). he asked a question, i answered it, i didnt say he SHOULD buy one, i was just answering the question he asked.
From what i've heard it's always a bit of a lottery with that particular monitor, highly dependant on the revision you get. I ordered one the 15th and they should deliver it tomorrow. Would it be possible to tell me what site you used where you noticed it, or what program. I'd like to try and replicate what you did and see if mine has the same issues. I have to say I'm a bit worried now :)
So it just arrived, and after unboxing it following your tips (put all the zips and bags back into the box as they came out), and playing around a bit with it. I'm pleased to announce that mine doesn't seem to have the issues you are talking about. White text on black or dark backgrounds is very readable and no red glow whatsoever. It's the same revision. Out of the box it was extremely bright, the whites hurt, but after adjusting the brightness to about 30 (50 default) it's working great.

The HP monitors are great! Sharp, not overly saturated or too vibrant (unless you choose it to be) and the prices are great too.

Dell don't even make screen. They order them from a Chinese company and then put the DELL logo on.

Hi, im thinking about buying a 32" 1080p hdtv to use in my room, i know that pc's can connect to them, but is the picture quality as good?
alex291190 2 years ago
no, monitors have much higher resolutions, resulting in a better picture.

the average moniter is either 1680x1050 or 1920x1200. he probably cannot aford a $1200 monitor.

yes, although 1080p is 1920x1080, a better pc one is 1920x1200, altogether its the same
tenshitaiakuma 2 years ago
Depends. What Brand? LCD, LED, or Plasma? Tv pixels are usually much larger that PC monitor pixels, meaning less picture quality
