I love Smashing Pumpkins and this song, and I have nothing but high respect for Corgan, but it seems like he has fallen from melodic songs to heavy distortion and hollow lyrics. That being said, Teargarden is coming along nicely, what with the psychedelic elements.

If Zeitgeist was more like this, I think it would have done A LOT better. honestly, Zeitgeist was shit. The only good songs were Doomsday Clock, Starz, Tarantula, and That's the Way. Their newer stuff (Teargarden) is excellent , though. i like the return to their older stuff, but still sounding fresh and new.
They do have a different sound than the old Smashing Pumpkins. Billy doesn't have that grungy, distorted angst sound he had before. I think the problem is that many of us fans of the old SP thought that the new SP would jump right back where they left off, but that's really a leap to imagine after all these years, they'd still be the same. It's still good in its own right, but it isn't the SP we all grew up with.

Smashing Pumpkins will never be the same without James. As much as SP was Billy there was a certain sound they had durring SD and Melloncollie that has never been matched once they started loosing/gaining members. It also kinda funny that ZWAN had more original SP members in it than Smashing Pumpkins does now.
@tracingstarsx i rather liked Adore and Machina I & II, also Judas 0, yes i wish Jimmy was on Adore but as far as Machina goes, they listed D'arcy on bass but idk she was only there during half the sessions, but who cares it's not like she ever did much of anything other than harmonize anyway. i do however think it's not fully SP without Billy & James (with Jimmy but also without but preferably with!)

Yeah Billy you sham, stop using the SP name that ,,, well,, um wait a minute I thought Billy created the Smashing Pumpkins wrote, sang, and played (all band positions minus Drummer during production and recording) and is now, continuing with a new cast. And as for the 90's,, its 2009 mate, Billys not in his twenties anymore,, thus the change in direction. Hey I hear Darcy and Iha are producing slamming tunes these days why not follow them?
Seriously? The bassline here is from the Pistachio Medley, and the overall feel of the song is very Machina to me. So if this song is bad (which I really don't think it is that bad -- not the deepest of their songs, but not bad) you can blame it on the Pistachio Medley, and any residue from the Machina era. Billy obviously has the ability to write good new music, he just needs to censor out the bad like he used to. He said he made more than 40 songs for Siamese Dream, and used less than 15.
Machina era was the beginning of the end, but still, Machina was poetic and charming. Now, Billy is getting old, his songwriting is getting weak, his music is getting "pop". Now I don't give a fuck if you like it, just buy it. But SP true fans should stay far from this shit
Not every song is a winner. Billy has composed what nears 500 songs throughout his career. Only about 100 were on albums, and only about 200-250 were ever actually released to anyone. Im assuming the other 250 weren't good. I don't think the problem is that he's lost his potential for quality is gone, I just think his quantity has gone down now, so he can't afford to pick and choose. That's my theory at least. Maybe getting back in the studio with the sole purpose of writing good music will help
Billy is a control freak, generally demanding and sarcastic, and awkward, from what I've seen. He's also left-handed, so all that is justified. I win, LOL.
For real though, he acts extremely right-brained is all. Its a mindset that isn't accepted by the majority, and is generally considered a "bad personality". In actuality, Right-brained persons are keen to the "whole picture" as opposed to individual pieces, and because of this are often more artistic than Left-brained people.

i kinda like the new corgan stuff tbh, there not exactely sp standerd but we have to remember he's the only one left in the band now so its not gonna sound the same is it. Nine inch nails are the same in this sense, Trent Reznor is the only guy left in the band and they sound different as a result but many like it regardless. Basically what ive noticed is that most of the new SP songs have to be listened to a bit before you like them these days unlike there earlier stuff.
Look it up, he changes people in and out of the group all the time. He is the only permanent member, not like SP, they got kicked out because of drugs, quit or whatever.

Truly, my friend, first off I give you props for not immediately being offensive with your reply; the only reason why I called Trent Reznor a back-stabber is that he truly damaged Marylin Manson's career.
There's also information on this, if you do your proper research. If anything, take a look at their 'StarSuckers' video, by NIN. Manson was featured in the video as well as the song. If you watch toward the end of the video, Manson changes your perspective.
I am surprised that Billy never has had a drug problem of any kind, not that I'd wish that upon anybody. If he is a lean, clean rock machine, then I must say I have a TON of respect for the man!

Yeah Billy you sham, stop using the SP name that ,,, well,, um wait a minute I thought Billy created the Smashing Pumpkins wrote, sang, and played (all band positions minus Drummer during production and recording) and is now, continuing with a new cast. And as for the 90's,, its 2009 mate, Billys not in his twenties anymore,, thus the change in direction. Hey I hear Darcy and Iha are producing slamming tunes these days why not follow them?

Seriously? The bassline here is from the Pistachio Medley, and the overall feel of the song is very Machina to me. So if this song is bad (which I really don't think it is that bad -- not the deepest of their songs, but not bad) you can blame it on the Pistachio Medley, and any residue from the Machina era. Billy obviously has the ability to write good new music, he just needs to censor out the bad like he used to. He said he made more than 40 songs for Siamese Dream, and used less than 15.

Machina era was the beginning of the end, but still, Machina was poetic and charming. Now, Billy is getting old, his songwriting is getting weak, his music is getting "pop". Now I don't give a fuck if you like it, just buy it. But SP true fans should stay far from this shit

Not every song is a winner. Billy has composed what nears 500 songs throughout his career. Only about 100 were on albums, and only about 200-250 were ever actually released to anyone. Im assuming the other 250 weren't good. I don't think the problem is that he's lost his potential for quality is gone, I just think his quantity has gone down now, so he can't afford to pick and choose. That's my theory at least. Maybe getting back in the studio with the sole purpose of writing good music will help

This is an expansion on Zoom. Zoom lasted 20 seconds. It obviously wasn't a complete song, just an idea, and he came back to that idea.

Billy is a control freak, generally demanding and sarcastic, and awkward, from what I've seen. He's also left-handed, so all that is justified. I win, LOL.
For real though, he acts extremely right-brained is all. Its a mindset that isn't accepted by the majority, and is generally considered a "bad personality". In actuality, Right-brained persons are keen to the "whole picture" as opposed to individual pieces, and because of this are often more artistic than Left-brained people.

i kinda like the new corgan stuff tbh, there not exactely sp standerd but we have to remember he's the only one left in the band now so its not gonna sound the same is it. Nine inch nails are the same in this sense, Trent Reznor is the only guy left in the band and they sound different as a result but many like it regardless. Basically what ive noticed is that most of the new SP songs have to be listened to a bit before you like them these days unlike there earlier stuff.

Look it up, he changes people in and out of the group all the time. He is the only permanent member, not like SP, they got kicked out because of drugs, quit or whatever.

their drummer Jimmy got hooked on hard drugs and Billy Corgan felt that Jimmy's drug addiction affected the band in a negative manner.
BUT Billy Corgan never quit the band he just felt that it wasn't the same without him!

Truly, my friend, first off I give you props for not immediately being offensive with your reply; the only reason why I called Trent Reznor a back-stabber is that he truly damaged Marylin Manson's career.
There's also information on this, if you do your proper research. If anything, take a look at their 'StarSuckers' video, by NIN. Manson was featured in the video as well as the song. If you watch toward the end of the video, Manson changes your perspective.

I am surprised that Billy never has had a drug problem of any kind, not that I'd wish that upon anybody. If he is a lean, clean rock machine, then I must say I have a TON of respect for the man!

I am glad that the smashing pumpkins are back, and i will always support them and buy their albums. However, their music is not like it was when everyone was still around. I think darcy was just awesome, and james was cool too. Its a shame to what happen to this band. Seems like alot of good bands can't keep their sh** together and maintain forever.
Nevertheless, good stuff for the new sp and i wish them them the best :)
