  • thanks for coment i always like to learn more. actualy i am not that good in knots and hitches and all the names. just that one which i use to use quet often. i wanted to put in a good demo, i couldnt find one couple a years ago when i was looking. thanks to all

  • The sheepshank version can actually collapse if the little ear is fiddled with. The best way to secure this version is by taking the ear and making a half hitch with it, in effect locking the ear so it can't be tampered with. I tie this version which is a Bellringer's Knot coupled with the half hitch lock, you'll never have to worry about it being tampered with or collapsing and losing your load.

  • Just doubling the rope around thr ril two get the increased pully effect is a bit dodgey. The best way is progressive hitches off the tailing rope from the lat hitch. Using half a dozen progressive truckies hitches, I have dragged a swamped car out of a flooded creek and up a steep bank by myself using a 50m static climbing rope and a nicely located tree.

  • This is the best demonstration I have seen on the web, and I love the doubled up version of the loop knot for strength, a trick that I had not yet enountered.

Your video could be improved if you

    a) clarified that the first knot that you demonstrated so well was a clove hitch

    b) the way you double the rope to increase pulling power is incorrect, a much better way is to do another truckies hitch in seqence onto the left over rope from the last hitch

  • hi thanks for the video. It would be even better if you could have the camera over your shoulder so the viewer can see what you see rather than seeing it back to front

  • I learned this knot from my dad about 45 years ago, but had forgotten how to do it. On Googling, I found dozens of (mainly American) demonstrations which are not correct. So glad I found your vid. Finally I remember haw to tie a proper TRUCKIES hitch. Thanks.

  • @normc007

    thanks mate,glad to help!

  • Great video Sir!

  • thanks mate....from US

  • thanks mate!

  • You're a champion! Best demo on youtube I've seen.

  • Tnx for that! I learnt this yrs ago but totally forgot how to do it. Found a few wensites with pictures showing u how to do it but was still confused and it all seemed so complicated! Ur video saved the day. So easy when u remember how!

  • I am a trucker

  • This is a truckers knot....just tied in a very complicated way

  • excellent presentation!

  • well demonstrated. Thanks

  • thanks for commet,i dont fully undersrand the question, but yes one rope at the time.and depend how long is your load you will need more roapes. to be honest,i am not that fast at that cos this days most trucks fitted with the straps and the winding rachet drums. i have seen some truckies that can do it it very fast, take a bit of practice and you be flying.

  • The tecnique as shown in your vid is remarkable but l think you can only use this tying method with one piece of rope at a time across the load then doing it in successions, right? that would be faster too than using a whole long rope just to secure a king-sized bed atop your vehicle n wasting precious time. what do you say, man?

  • cheers mate, just started at a yard, needed to learn this knot, stood around looking like a tool while everyone else ties off.

    thanks

  • just wanted to say thanks for a great and clear explination of this hitch. Tried to find a good video for a while now. watched last night and went to work today and tied it straight away. 5star vid well done.

  • thanks ,mate, for the coment. well today many trucks are equiped with straps, so there is not much need ,anymore, for ropes, but still good to know few hitches and knots.

  • @bikeman1948

nice one mate. Cheers for post.

  • Very impressive thanks. I have been following links to find a "truckers hitch" with positive comments. This is the best I have found so far! The way it shakes out is amazing! My brother in law always does his tie downs so they shake out and I can never figure it out. He was a trucker for 30 years though! I must comment though I was taught that a clove hitch should only be relied on if both ends are secure. I would put a couple of half hitches in just in case. Perhaps the tension is enough.

  • thanks for coment, well it never happened to me yet, and this is not a knot, a hitch have to fall apart very quickly once opend, regards

  • very helpful cheers mate!

  • Pretty good combination of knots there. However, I definitely wouldn't start with a Clove Hitch on the first anchor. I'd use a Slipped Buntline there.

  • @iq201 or a Bowline, Also, this truckers hitch is based around the sheep shank, the sheep shank is a bad knot which is slowly being eliminated from Boys scout because it can slip (as is the Clove hitch). A proper truckers hitch is a loop with 2 round turns and a slip back through the loop. This is still a good video, i could not find anyone else on you tube with this version of the Truckers hitch which is quite prevalent in Australia by truckies.

  • @aaronstately I know that version, but I prefer a fixed loop where for the simulated sheave portion of the Trucker Hitch. Specifically, I prefer a Span Loop right there. There is a long thread at IGKT.net discussing various options exhaustively.

  • very happy to help, thanks for the comment.

  • Excellent video/tutorial, helped me get some junk to the dump :D. Thanks.

  • thanks mate ,happy to help. happy hnuka!

  • Thanks, I had forgotten how to tie this knot, I watched a lot of Youtube demo's tying this knot wrong before I found yours, many thanks for refreshing my memory.

  • thanks mate, rivenglo the scotish. fair dincum, opps, glad to be an assistance. actually i wood like to say, it is not a not knot lol,it is a hitch, no knot here, thats why the bloody thing just falls apart when open. regards

  • Thanks from Scotland. I've been wanting to learn this for 30 years at least. I watched a few vids here before yours - they were useless. Great vid and great cut-the-crap style. I'm very grateful to you.

  • @rivenglo thanks mate, very happy to help. honestly i am not that fast at this, hardly use it. i myself was going for my heavy combination license and that is one of the things they want you to demonstrate. so i went on line and could not find a realy good one. thanks again

  • Whatch 5 guys to find you that's the right way been a while that's why I looked it up

    Thanks from Hawaii

    ALOHA

  • brilliant video, nicely explained thank you.

  • good video mate - thanks

  • excellent!!

so much better (correct) than the many pretend truckies knots on the web.

    Go Aussie truckies!

  • Good on ya mate. Top clip showing the true truckies hitch not the nonscence some try to pass off as a truckies hitch.

  • fantastic... i learnt that one ages ago and could not remember it, i'm back in tension land thanks for the demo

  • Excellent demo - thanks for sharing this with us. It's good to learn from someone with a desire to educate rather than just to get their face on the internet.

  • you must do more videos!!

  • Thanks mate the best video on this subject i have seen just a bit of practice and got it down pat thanks again

  • This is the best video I have ever seen on the truckies hitch! I also like your multiple pully effect in the same video. Everything we need to tie a no nonsense rigging for holding something tight! Good job Mate!

  • Hi have you ever seen my product the TiteTie? Its 5 times better than a truckers knot. Find out about TiteTie on my YouTube channel and website, Google Tite-Tie.

  • @titetie

Your product costs money - knowledge and experience is free. Remember, before you marketed your product, people like this very experienced and knowledgeable guy have been tying knots for centuries!

  • @SwantonBomb630 hi there, sorry about the late reply, yes i did see the product, very good i think, i saw it in bunning if i recall. regards
