I just saw Stephen Pearcy a few months ago at a Tacoma Night Club and let me tell you, it was off the charts, he played all the hits for over three hours straight and sounded amazing!
Ratt N Roll! This song is awesome-nobody does it better than Ratt-This was the first concert I saw back in 86 they were on tour with Poison, the Ratt Poison tour. Great show and a great time to be a teenage boy. Out of the Cellar was groundbreaking but Dancing Undercover is my favorite Ratt album.
I think Dancing Undercover was groundbreaking too.
It was metal with a more contemporary vibe. The album contained jazzy flavors and some funky elements (Take A Chance, 7th Avenue). There's an R&B type song in the form of One Good Lover so I think RATT were showing ways you can do other genres without using the instrumentation you'd associate specifically with that genre (e.g. saxophones, keyboards).
The riff Warren does in this song would have been done in keyboard form in another band.
I love this song! It was a great song to dance to when younger. My mom always made me smile. She was 57 years old at the time. This was 1986. When the video came on she would come hurrying to watch it. She thought Stephen Pearcy was cute. I miss her alot as she passed away last year. The song makes me think of her and smile
The thing that stands out for me from seeing RATT live was Juan Croucier! His performance was just awesome. I still love listening to RATT after all these years.
One night I asked and tried to get a dj at a retro bar/nightclub/dance club to play this song and the guy never heard of this band and he wouldn't play this song! I think it would have been cool to play it and see what kind of women would have gotton up and danced to it! LOL
JosephKuby, you said it with a very good analysis. Ratt combined styles and genre and ALWAYS made it sound good.
Stephen is great on vocals and Warren is one of the best guitarists out there. RATT is truly the best band EVER!! Makes you realize how HORRIBLE the music is today!!
Even Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell was a very big fan of Ratt. Warren DeMartini was close friends with Dimebag and Juan had performed with Pantera back in the early days (as a guest performer than as a full-fledged member of the band).
Other famous RATT fans are Eddie Murphy (who also liked Cinderella), Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore (who had her photo taken with Stephen somewhere between '84 and '85).
Linda Kozlowski (from the film Crocodile Hunter) appears in this video.
I had nearly forgotten about this song, if you can believe it. It was my absolute favorite song when I was 15 years old. I was dancing like a maniac all the time, just like in this video. Too bad "old age" had to come and give me back problems! LOL. Maybe it was the dancing that gave me back problems? Who knows? But Ratt stood out as one of the best back then. The rocked and still do!!!
If you had a great time doing all that dancing.....you used your back in a most enjoyable way! Problems with your body as you get older are inevitable, the goal is to have many great memories and less regret.
This band always GROOVED...such serious ear candy, true riff/hook masters. Such a great song and a great setting for it. Thanks for posting this gem! I've always loved Ratt.
They were able to mix genres in a way that was very subtle, blending rap-type grooves into metal (Slip of the Lip, 7th Avenue, One Good Lover), jazzy vibes (Enough is Enough), funk metal (Take a Chance), blues (Way Cool Junior), pop metal (Shame Shame Shame) and even doing heavier sounds (the EP).
Ratt are the best rock band ever because they have an ability to write songs which are extremely catchy (What's It Gonna Be) or incredibly edgy (U Got It).
For one thing the drummer has two arms. Maybe it is the deceased rhythm guitarist.
One thing is clear, this sounds nothing like Def Leppard. I admire Collen's style of playing but DeMartini smokes him. And Pearcy and Elliot sound as similar vocally as Marilyn Manson & Britny Spears. =)
I always find it ironic when reading reviews on the Amazon site that Def Leppard was referred to as pop metal since they were pop rock in comparison to RATT.
After looking through the comment pages, I found that TimelessRainbows was responding to a comment made by webtronasia (whose comment can be found on the 6th page - last time I checked).
I think Warren was way ahead of Collen too. It's a shame Steve and Rob are gone. Music sucks without them.
Yeah, but I think Juan might have some better chops, thought that could just be because the DL bassist has to slow it down a bit once the drummer had to slow it down too. Both bands have merit.
I still love Warren DeMartini's playing style, personally.
Ratttttttttttttttttttttt ATTACK!!!!!!1 of the besttt Rock Concerts 3 times here.......Wish it was possible to wake up an realize the 90's till now i was in a Coma...There's nothing like the 80's ..RATT,CRUE,KROKUS,TRIUMP,CINDERELLA,WASP,DOKKEN,TESLA,OZZZZZZZZZY,DIO, it would take all day to mention all of the GREATEST of the Rock's best decade...Anyone who thinks this shit today is Rock need to be boiling in oil......

what stoic lyrics and unique sound...totally musical and mysterious...for the stress and pressures of that business, unbelievable signature sound and dreamy song lists on every album...then "Detonator" the final punch in the face...awesome and definitely noteworthy for all time...I dig all the '80's/early '90's but these guys had it mastered from the start...to the ...RATT 25 YEARS AND STILL GOING...thank God...
I saw this video when it first premiered in MTV when I was in Junior High. I loved it so much I ran out to the store with my allowance money and bought the record. Every song on Dancing Undercover was excellent and I still listen to it on my Itunes today!
JosephKuby. You said it perfect! Most of the world only knows and likes Ratt for "Round 'n Round", which I think is a bit too poppish. This album was linked song-to-song, so that on the vinyl record, which I used to own brand new, played like there was no stopping point until it came time to turn in over on the turntable
Every album after this was OK with just a few worth-it songs each. But this was a gold mine of songs for the ages!
Agreed, alongside Jim Martin of Faith No More, he brought a highly fluid style of playing that could be technical without losing a sense of melody or emotion.
The guy eating popcorn is bombed, he been drinkin, and slippin out to the parking lot to smoke down.....popcorn is good...mmmmmmmmm...rockin band with a sense of humor.....awesome
US women before 1990.. fit, HWP, right amount of makeup and fashion, not covered in bizzare (or fuck-you-Dad) tatts and piercings. Clothes that accentuated what they had, hid what they didn't.
no real revelation- now vs then. (look around you for Chrissakes). Just a lament.
You could to a metal show in the 80sand see girls like this every time, everywhere, and that isn't selective memory
What's up frankiemachine?... Dude I'm going to see them at Viejas Casino on April 20th this freaking Saturday... My clan is going to see them. We are going to have alot of fun. Just a few ***stoners*** that's it. You know there going to be alot of "milfs" just rockin -N- rolling. I'm just going to see them and smile... TRUE ROCKERS STAND UP... :)
This is a fun song. Critics did not what to call it. I even heard the term Dance Metal back in late 1986 when this song & album came out. RATT kicks ass! And by the way I also liked the early MetallicA thrash years. Note I said "MetallicA". I also liked Megadeth, OZZY & Def Leppard. Even hard core stuff like Nuclear Assault _Critical mass. I've gotten into Iron Maiden alot lately. Great lyrics. But Ratt kicks ass and so does RATT & ROLL!!
Hi guys i know this may sound like spam bull shit but its not so dont mark it spam plz, im 16 and im in a band thats tryin to bring this stuff back again. All of my bandmates are also 16 and our band name is Livid, but were gettin new name soon. Our setlist right now is sweet cheater(RATT), youre in love(ratt) , sweet little sister(skid row) Mr. Brownstone(gnr)and looks that kill (motley crue). Hopefully more kids our age will make bands that play this stuff too so we can bring it back!
Hopefully more kids our age will make bands that play this stuff too so we can bring it back! i will ive only been playing guitar 3 months but as soon as i get to the lvel where i can play this stuff il be in a band shame i wont be able to do concerts as im only 13
Keep practicing and you'll get there quickly. ;D I was your age when I started really trying to play guitar.Take lessons, learn from friends, get into bands at school, listen to all the music you can. The more you learn now, the better off you will be in the future.
As I sit working on warren and Robin's (r.i.p) riffs, this is great news to a 42 yr old Rattfan i still have fun w/ this stuff and you will! RATT-N-ROLL
Even though you said "not bad"...dont judge Ratt by this song. I am a HUGE RATT FAN but this song is very cheesy...there is plenty of other stuff on here to listen to like You Think Youre Tough, Sweet Cheater, Youre in Trouble, Walkin the Dog, etc....that is the GREAT RATT hard stuff.~Cheers~
I wish these bands providing feelings like this one could come back - but I'm afraid that music always reflects the general mood of its time, and this time the feelings are.. well judge yourself.

My condolences. xxxx
RATT were an amazing band. I think it's a shame that they never reached the same level of commercial success Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and GNR got.
The '90s could have been a way to right the wrongs of the '80s but they split up pretty much after Nirvana became big.
Rob and Juan wanted RATT to go back to the edgier lyrics and heavier sounds of the EP.
Had they done so, the impact of bands like Skid Row, Pantera, Metallica and Alice in Chains wouldn't have been as big.

I wonder if this was the song the producers of Top Gun wanted to use from Ratt.
Initially, I was thinking Body Talk but the hedonistic nature of this song fits Top Gun to a T.
Unfortunately, Ratt's management thought that The Golden Child would be the bigger hit and used Body Talk for that movie.
Ah well, Ratt certainly made up for it by having Nobody Rides For Free on the Point Break soundtrack.
I think a lot of films in the 80s could have done with some pure Rattage on their film scores.

What sucks is the cool ased tapping toward the end by Warren wasn't even shown in the video!

Warren D-Martini was one of the best of the 80's guitar scene along with Snake and Slash.
Will miss big Robin C. Like a GIANT up there on stage!! I was front row for the Invasion and Dance tours. Dude was a monster!

RATT N ROLL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
PurplePassion68 4 years ago 4
This is a fun song. Critics did not what to call it. I even heard the term Dance Metal back in late 1986 when this song & album came out. RATT kicks ass! And by the way I also liked the early MetallicA thrash years. Note I said "MetallicA". I also liked Megadeth, OZZY & Def Leppard. Even hard core stuff like Nuclear Assault _Critical mass. I've gotten into Iron Maiden alot lately. Great lyrics. But Ratt kicks ass and so does RATT & ROLL!!

This song rocks-period. Anyone who thinks this is cheesey probably needs to wipe their asses with their sleeve then sniff it.
RATT ROCKS!!

Keep practicing and you'll get there quickly. ;D I was your age when I started really trying to play guitar.Take lessons, learn from friends, get into bands at school, listen to all the music you can. The more you learn now, the better off you will be in the future.

80s best years ever, although i was not in the 80s i just think those years were the best!!
fcmaiden666 4 years ago 5
Same with me!
I believe these times can come back. We only have to support young bands that are willing to make this kind of music again!
davidgilmour01 4 years ago
I wish these bands providing feelings like this one could come back - but I'm afraid that music always reflects the general mood of its time, and this time the feelings are.. well judge yourself.
