Roland still may be the leaders in digital drum technology - but they're at LEAST four or five years behind what's relevant. And SOFTWARE is relevant. I don't quite understand who the target market is for their flagship TD kits. Professional drummers don't care about stock kits with bleeps, bloops and sequences. KIDS do. My two cents? Drop the price about $4000, put a kick ass I/O on it and sell it as a great triggering kit for software like BFD or Superior Drummer.
I find it strange that all of these so called drums gods state how wonderful this kit is.....but you never see them play it on stage with a top artist........they are just suck ups to Roland.......I have own a V-drum kit since their inception but never played out it because sucks live....but it it is a great studio and practice piece....but who in their right mind would pay 7 grand to practice.
@PUSHMUSICNY Yeah the 2Box Drumit 5 and the Pearl E Pro Live are both revolutionary and original. This is obviously a good kit, but its pretty much the same as all the other roland kits, nothing different really.
Naaaa,Give me a td12 any day.Dont want the sounds!Cant beat EZdrummer! And with ezplayer pro,you can start and stop loops of anything you want,As many as you want.Get the percussion pak and go crazy. And get Metal Machine for the great snares! And toms and cymbals and bass.I did :D
Ouch Roland really missed the mark on this one. This is where competitors like 2box have come to fill the gaps. With the affordability of pc's and storage the majority of people are spending their extra money on realistic VST's. The sound and triggering technology definitely hit a plateau after the td-20.
We want a VST player without that COSM/Supernatural bull shit!!! Keep the triggers and ditch the onboard sounds and give us lots of space to load virtual instruments like Superior Drummer, BFD2, etc.. Simple calculation!!!!
$8000 for this? ROFL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do yourself a favor. Buy a td 12, the entire Superior Drummer collection, a $30 external usb-midi converter and save yourself 6 grand.
Still no ability to load samples? No step editor in the sequencer? I hate to say it but Roland really dropped the ball here. These kits are garbage compared to Superior. The machine gun toms are still there. I run superior through the TD 20 via midi and there just isn't any comparison.
I was about to say that the snare sounds incredibly DULL and lifeless - but I think it was just that Nate Morton fella (whoever he is) and his poor drumming...because in JR Robinson's hands the whole kit sounded a lot better.
Ok so these guys are paid to say this BS. The cymbals sound great and play well and I hear decent dynamics but severe machine gunning when hit at the same velocity. There are no algorithims in the programming to stop the repeat machine gunning and alternate layered sounds within the samples . Dddrum 3 and 4 is still untouched. The new 2 box plays and sounds better the roland is over priced. Roland you need to show players playing light and not hard. Wackerman demoed the best.
Oh dear Roland you have disappointed me incredibly!! Do you not understand that everyone wants a whole new electronic kit experience!??? We want to see wooden drums, but actually electronic! We want to hear REAL sounding drums but actually electronic!! When we hit the pads, we want them to feel like REAL drums, but actually electronic!! We're in 2012 i got my roland td20 7 years ago and nothing has been pushed forward. SORT IT OUT!
@hughdavis1985 Pearl E-Pro live? Jobeky Electronic hybrid? Both electric kits with real shells that can be converted into acoustic drums with a simple head changed. Or, buy a module and use the new Aquarian inHead (a drum head with a trigger built in) or their OnHead - a slightly undersized overlay for your existing drums, meaning no head changes!
I'm agreeing with the statement about the brain. They may have improved the playability, but unless they have 20 gig worth of sample library, it just can't compete with drum libraries such as superior drummer 2 or steven slate. If I had shit loads of spare cash, I'd get one to trigger superior drummer.
It's been years since they come up with a real new drum kit (not a souped up version of the original model), and this is where they come up with? I'm so underwhelmed - still very digital and lifeless.
I just don't get why Roland bothers to create a brain while they should be investing in quality software. Deliver a simple but reliable I/O trigger, no sounds by default, and add your laptop or iPad for sounds.
@stickystudiosgames Uhh, I think you can use your laptop/iPad for sounds. You just need a midi - USB cable, that you connect to your brain, then the settings should be on the brain itself. Pretty sure that's possible bro.
I own the TD20. I mainly use it for practise. TD-30KV seems to have some minor advancements. But some of the sounds are still very synthetic. This thing is good for enhancing the sounds of your acoustic kit as an add on. But I would never use it as a substitude for my main kit.
This is all great, great drums .. my first encounter with Roland's V drums was TD 10 and i'm very pleased with the quality and sound but it was too expensive. I know that there is a lot invested to produce this drum, but the truth is that too expensive. We "little people" can't afford to however desired. If TD 20 complete kit in Europe will cost € 6500, i can only imagine how much the new TD 30.
some of the sounds, to me, sound choked. I don't know if that the setting on the kit or the what. I have a td-6. I love it wi/ ezDrummer and BFD eco. I don't care much for the sounds in the brain. I'd love for them to come out one where you could load your own sounds. Cymbals sound great +1 for that. If I had the money...I'd still buy it.
@MTBProAspen I bought my TD4KX as a used floor model at a music store, brought it home, beat the shit out of it and it still works just fine. Roland's will hold up for a long time.
We have a TD-20SX at church that I play most Sundays. For me, the V-Drums are a lot more about the triggers than the brain. Sure, there's a LOT of sounds and flexible programming, but plugging this into a laptop is where you really get to go new places with it.
That said, this update is advertised as having a lot more dynamic range and sensitivity, which is a nice step forward. I wouldn't sell off our TD-20SX for them, but if you're not in a V-Drum set already I would recommend them.
I love it! Been selling these things for years-NO ONE can beat the quality. But I will say this: as far as the video is concerned, I wish they would have played different sets as apposed to the same set every time! I know there be treasures in thar! I guess the don't want to give too much away...oh well, at least Johnny Rabb changed the kit up a bit. LONG LIVE ROLAND!
huh... ya... i know all of the drummers on the video and respect the opinions of pros that have each changed drumming in a positive way. The guys with critical comments.... yup... never heard of one of them... ever. V-Drum Pro kits sound great. Ummm fall behind who... they are way ahead of every other electronic kit. There hasn't been a machine gunning issue with V-Drums for several versions going back more than 7 years. I'm glad they improved on the cymbal swells and rim triggers.
They still sound the same, just enhanced a bit.......This is the big update ???? Roland you WILL fall behind, and your prices ?? got to be kidding me ! Good Luck !
Still sounds like crap. The problem is the machine gunning. However the new triggering sensitivity they are talking about seems interesting. Might be great with VST's.
However the sound quality vs price is ridiculous. Come on it's 2012 :p
