Sometimes people abandon faith after loved ones pass, especially in tragic ways, because they are so hurt and feel like if there is a creator he would go about allowing the things that that person would allow. Or they decide that the things that happened to them or their loved ones are just not fair. It is a foolish mindset and a mindset desperately clinging to worldly life as the sole reality, but many people fall on this fallacious logic.
I find that trinitarian/western Christian fall on this logic more, as their faith teaches them that death is a punishment.
