Back in the like 1997-2000 or so I had SO MUCH fun with this game omg... EA fucking RUINED it... But seriously those 3 years are the best three years I've had had with games (obviously not the best years of life, that would be the past few years after I've got married, but they were the best GAMING years of my life).. It was so fucking fun back then pking and pvping and being able to do WHATEVER YOU WANTED IN THE GAME without millions of rules and stupidass trammel... god i miss it!

Ea has only one power... to kill games.

Completely agreed. Sadly, that type of "dog eat dog" worldset will never be used again, as WoW determines what is marketable within an MMO context.

UO was the best game ever back from 98 - 2001. After wards, they nerfed the game. Running from murderers was the best! If they want the best MMORPG on the market, all they have to do is make a server with the original rules set and that new engine.

I'd play it again if they did that, it beat the hell out of EQ and WoW.

i agree, not knowing if u were about to get mugged outside of town kept u on the edge of ur seat!

ur never really worried about any ai creatures. its the other players u were somewhat nervous around. u were forced to make gangs, strength in numbers kinda thing. buying homes was sweet too, the whole buying system was pretty cool on uo. i have a lot of good memorys from that game, iv never seen a game come close since. people cry over stupid shit now n ruin the game

there are a few "unofficial" servers that have gameplay like the classic uo like you guys describe and some of them actually have a good amount of players... but the problem I've noticed with these servers is something doesnt feel "right" about them, even though they have the same rules as old uo and everything it still doesnt feel "authentic" its hard to explain... So yeah I know what you guys mean they should make a oldschool "official" server... id start playing again.

OK, I've played UO BETA and started playing UO the day the game came out on OCT 1997. The whole concept of Ultima as an MMO was made by Richard Garriot ,who was the creator of the Ultima series and owner of Origin games... now EA did buy Origin in 1995, but they had nothing to do with the creation and the concept of Ultima as an MMO...

well, to be honest, uo was never really "alive".i dont see why ea even bothers to even try with doing anything with uo. uos peek user base was just over 250,000 users. now theyre barely at 100k. in less then a years time they lost 150k users.

they need to let it die. its such a joke.

Get your facts strait Online version did NOT exist until EA bought it when it was still a stand alone pc game. EA brought it to the online masses. Your spuot about it being ruined by EA just shows how ignorant you are, since they created the online part of ultima. Go back and play another game Trekkie stop talking about things you obviously know nothing about, EA bought ultima series in 1995, and the online world went live in 1998

You agree that it was bought by EA in '95 and the online world went live in 97, seems like i was right about EA not ruining the game, but they launched the online version. FYI i played Beta also and day one it went live to everyone, especially when teh undead attacked Trinsic, tell em something that is not common knowledge saying your form day 1

oh dude, yeah, EA lauched the online version of Ultima, they didn't creat it, Garriot did, they were gona make "UO2" but EA pulled the plugs and Garriot left, then EA started changing Ultima Online around, that's when UO got bad, the beggining of UO was awesome thou, 97 to 99, those years were when Garriot was in control, pretty much it was EA that killed it,

EA just owned the brand name, once EA started changing the game around, Richard got pissed and left and created Destination Games, so, EA screwed everything up. Buuuuuuut!! it looks like the new stuff will be pretty cool, I'm definetly playing it!
