@rogercabronn2 New York is a piece of Shit compared to Hong Kong. Hong kong is wicked!
New York cannot be compared to Hong Kong. This one I am 100% sure. Seen what both cities look like. Not only is Hong Kong more futuristic and advanced, but it is cleaner. New york is not even the best city in North America, its just an overrated city.
good/solid list....better than most idiots list with the same popular citys....u acutally got some cities that deserve to be on the list that most people have never even heard of....
You can't judge it from pictures, you got to go there and see them by yourself. The cities I have been to are NY, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Shanghai, Beijing, LA, SanFrancisco, I will rank these cities' skylines as 1. Chicago 2. NY 3. Shanghai 4. Beijing 5. Toronto 6. San Francisco 7. Vancouver 8. LA 9. Montreal I agree that HongKong is No.1 skylines. Chicago and Vancouver are my favorite cities overall.

@aidgebo Wow, that was dumb. I'm half Thai. Yes, I've been to Thailand, especially Bangkok, a few times. No, I don't think Thailand is like Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam. Some of the asian and latin american cities do not have the aesthetics of some of the american cities but Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dubai have terrific skylines. Dallas, Houston, Toronto, Seattle are underrated and Moscow, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and some of the poorer chinese cities overrated. New York is also overrated in aesthetics
@BACMPKC Wrong fact. The 1st real skyscraper (over 1000 ft tall) ever built was actually the Eiffel tower in 1889. Chicago or anything else came later. The sad thing is my sweet hometown Paris has fallen a bit asleep since then... It's gonna wake up and be insolent again X-) ha!
Cheers and sincere respect to beautiful Australia, Canada, the US, and of course Europe.
IMO, you know little of what constitutes a great skyline. Tall office towers are the key. Places you've named in Asia ans S.America with countless grubby, cheap public housing buildings count for little. Nothing comes close to NYC with Chicago a commendable second. There are no cites in the US with more office floor space than Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne also has a 90 story apartment tower (the tallest building in the southern hemisphere). And Paris?

I think cities with sweeping dense and tall skylines should win out especially those where people live not just work. Thats for towers at least like hong kong.
Many European cities are low profile - like London Paris both architecturally rich and livable.
These skylines are the "best" based essentially on who has the most tall buildings.
What about a beautiful skyline of lower height, historic buildings. Just building a load of highrises isn't that great. Quite like a reasonable cluster of skyscrapers, then lower lying buildings, with significant parks and green spaces. Houston looked quite nice. China looked pritty ugly. But if your obsessed with highrises I can see the obvious attraction.
LOL vietnamese~~u offending billion of chinese with your ignorant pose...how can u said chinese poor??chinese are the most civilised race in this world.....I'm from Malaysia...and im malaysian chinese....here almost all are chinese wins the top 10 ritches in malaysia... futhermore,ur nation still left far behind if compared to china, malaysia and singapore....
New York is no match. New York is not even number 2. With all the dog poop on the streets and pollution on the streets NYC is getting old although it still has its cool features though.
Chicago beats New York by far in terms of coolness and modern stuff. Therefore Chicago is better than New York and as a matter of fact Chicago will have more modern futuristic skyscrapes in the future while NYC will just be the opposite..
Other cities that may look like Hong Kong within the next 30 years are Chicago,London,Tokyo,Dubai (if they have the bucks),Montreal,Panama(if they have the money),Toronto,Vancouver, San Francisco, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi
These are cities that are likely to evolve easily and look futuristic within the next 30years.
As for NYC i dont know if there will be much developments but other US cities will definitely look better in a few years time. Chicago is already better than NYC shanghai is next
dude i live in san antonio,tx and i gotta say we only have like 12 buildings that rise over 300ft we have no futureistic buildings.all of are buildings are sand colors
actually the motor car was invented in England. As was the aeroplane, the train, the subway, and probably anything else you can think of. England is world famous for its engineers. The only problem is, we did everything first, so now our stuff is the oldest, and others have improved upon our original designs. London was the first global city.
We invented the engine the most inportant part of the car but the Germans were the first to build the car but in a way england still makes the most and best engines while germany is far behind
@bknives It's the same in the US. We industrialized about a 15 yrs behind England so our our metropolises are quite dated. The younger cities are very modern in their appearance though. Asia is bound to have the worlds most modern cities due to population in a late developing nation. China builds an entirely new city the combined size of Chicago and Detroit put together ANNUALLY!
@bknives BTW. The perception of English engineers is that they are highly imaginative but poorly execute designs. German engineers are unimaginative but execute flawlessly. Japanese engineers are brilliant but impractical. American engineers are brilliant but management doesn't like the cost of innovation, no matter how slight, so in order to look good in the quarterly BSC they ignore payback, slash cost/quality, KILL MY DESIGN and shit designs are reused. I'm an ME and these weasels suck!
People who think NYC has better skyline than Hong Kong are likely Americans who have never been to Hong Kong. Hong Kong's skycrapers are much more futuristic than NYC's. Just when many Americans think NYC's public transit is second to none, Hong Kong's subway makes NYC's look dirty, inefficient, poor, and third-world. It's funny how people have no idea how many things are far from the best here.
Chicago has some taller buildings, but NY has a lot more buildings as it is a much larger city in scope. I'm not sure if you've even visited other countries, but I also prefer Hong Kong and Tokyo's skyline to Chicago.
Haha. Chicago inventing the skyscraper is untrue, and it's also debatable that city built the 1st modern skyscraper as similar buildings were designed in England decades before the Home Insurance building in Chi-town. I'm american too, but you really shouldn't ethnocentric. It really makes americans look bad. As a neutral observer from the west coast (where we have very little buidlings at all), I much felt that Chicago was mini NYC and prefer the New York skyline
and yea ive been to nyc, and from i-95 the only building that stood out to me was the empire state building! in Chicago you could see the skyline as far from 40+ miles away if nuthin is blockin ur view! since its so spread out and tall you could see Chicago's Sears Tower from 35,000 ft high in a airplane easy! but as of right now Chicago does have a taller skyline then Hong Kong, but i think HK is building a 1,800 foot building but Chicago is building a 2,000 footer, so ether way its taller.
yep CHICAGO invented the skyscaper! thanks to AMERICA u ppl know what a skyscaper is!Chicago does have the worlds best skyline in my opinion, but in most professional list, this guy isnt professional,i could make a list myself! anyway most professional list go like dis!
1.Hong Kong
2.Chicago
3.New York
idk way nyc is always in the top spots becuz it has alot of small buildings,i guess they count the number of buildings a city has plus how nicely placed the skyline is!Chicago sud be 1st
Exactly! Shanghai looks horrible, Dubai is just 5 buildings in the middle of a desert. Ok,New York and Hong Kong have nice skylines but Chicago should be first!
this is based off of number of tall buildings :/ dont like that way of deciding the best skyline. it should be about city scape and archetecture. seattle should be like number 10 or higher. just about all chinese cities(hong kong exception) are hideous people are just busy gaga'ing over the 5 good buildings they have and dont realize that every buildings looks like it came out of the trash heap.
I do find the NYC is #1 and the leave China out posts amusing. As the world economies shift so does the nature of the cities with the biggest growth and development. 30 years ago USA/North America would have dominated a list such as this - that is no longer the case
Dubai is a skyline to watch as is Moscow - that place is changing so quickly it is disorientating
And how'd I'd know Hong Kong would be number??? Yeah HK and Shanghai are impressive but they don't even come near touching NYC. This was a total waste of my time watching this crap
You've obviously never left the little town you come from! NO PLACE even comes close in comparison especially not Hong Kong which is slightly impressive to me. And I'm an LA born girl so this is saying ALOT!
Well, I live in Melbourne and I have been to NYC for a few times. I think NYC skyline is actually worse than even Seattle, Melbourne and Sydney. Dense and tall are the only two words I can describe NYC skyline. Simply dense and tall don't make a good skyline.
Seattle isn't pretty nor do I think Melbourne looks like anything special but I'll agree that Sydney is beautiful. But in my opinion NO place comes close to NYC. It's not dense and tall now that the Twin Towers are gone but then again maybe I am just used to the way American cities are. I think it is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking. And yeah I understand how someone could say it's dense but I think it's spead out pretty well.
You should've called this the best skylines in CHINA and a few others in the world. Next time, make one of Asian cities separate from the other cities as it's very obvious you're partial to China and the rest of Asia. This was very disappointing. I'm sick of looking at China!
Oh yea tiny island what about singapore? They had a population of 4million. Gonna look down on it now? Their GDP is equivalent to Hongkong. What does HK mean to you now?
@spiritbreakerz lol the viet is stupid sont worry about them, chinese own and will always win....they earn more than any other immigrants in north america, europe, and asia....u are right
Easily type a number? I got the source from wikpedia. Chinese poor? Im a chinese from singapore and our per capita is higher then japan/USA etc. Check Vietnamese Mail Order Bride on youtube.
Despite having a much larger population, their their gdp(nominal) are still lower. Juz look at the difference between per capita. Its like an avg hongkong dude earns 30x more money then a viet dude..lol. Btw hongkong is part of China so how can they not have enough land to expand?
Nonsense. The BEST skylines are in Europe, you berk. And you don't need a link. Just LOOK AROUND YOU. Unless you are not in Europe, then you probably need the strength to type in "European skyline" on Google.

Many European cities are low profile - like London Paris both architecturally rich and livable.
SOmebody should rank best freeway cities.

Hong Kongs Skyscrapers are wicked lol
Real science fiction.
RobertsDigital 2 years ago
Other cities that may look like Hong Kong within the next 30 years are Chicago,London,Tokyo,Dubai (if they have the bucks),Montreal,Panama(if they have the money),Toronto,Vancouver, San Francisco, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi
These are cities that are likely to evolve easily and look futuristic within the next 30years.
As for NYC i dont know if there will be much developments but other US cities will definitely look better in a few years time. Chicago is already better than NYC shanghai is next

Sydney and Kuala L. are also good candidates

dont be sillly, american invented cars, but it doesnt mean a ford is better than a ferrari.
tubeyoujason 2 years ago
actually the motor car was invented in England. As was the aeroplane, the train, the subway, and probably anything else you can think of. England is world famous for its engineers. The only problem is, we did everything first, so now our stuff is the oldest, and others have improved upon our original designs. London was the first global city.
bknives 2 years ago 2
We invented the engine the most inportant part of the car but the Germans were the first to build the car but in a way england still makes the most and best engines while germany is far behind
TheJamesjames123 2 years ago
@bknives It's the same in the US. We industrialized about a 15 yrs behind England so our our metropolises are quite dated. The younger cities are very modern in their appearance though. Asia is bound to have the worlds most modern cities due to population in a late developing nation. China builds an entirely new city the combined size of Chicago and Detroit put together ANNUALLY!
mattsp77 1 year ago
@bknives BTW. The perception of English engineers is that they are highly imaginative but poorly execute designs. German engineers are unimaginative but execute flawlessly. Japanese engineers are brilliant but impractical. American engineers are brilliant but management doesn't like the cost of innovation, no matter how slight, so in order to look good in the quarterly BSC they ignore payback, slash cost/quality, KILL MY DESIGN and shit designs are reused. I'm an ME and these weasels suck!
mattsp77 1 year ago
That said, I'd still rather live in NYC than Hong Kong just so you know I am not trying to bash NYC but just giving an unbiased opinion
slee5791 2 years ago
People who think NYC has better skyline than Hong Kong are likely Americans who have never been to Hong Kong. Hong Kong's skycrapers are much more futuristic than NYC's. Just when many Americans think NYC's public transit is second to none, Hong Kong's subway makes NYC's look dirty, inefficient, poor, and third-world. It's funny how people have no idea how many things are far from the best here.
slee5791 2 years ago
Chicago has some taller buildings, but NY has a lot more buildings as it is a much larger city in scope. I'm not sure if you've even visited other countries, but I also prefer Hong Kong and Tokyo's skyline to Chicago.
fukanesedragon 2 years ago
As a neutral observer from the west coast (where we have very little buidlings at all), I much felt that Chicago was mini NYC and prefer the New York skyline
fukanesedragon 2 years ago
and yea ive been to nyc, and from i-95 the only building that stood out to me was the empire state building! in Chicago you could see the skyline as far from 40+ miles away if nuthin is blockin ur view! since its so spread out and tall you could see Chicago's Sears Tower from 35,000 ft high in a airplane easy! but as of right now Chicago does have a taller skyline then Hong Kong, but i think HK is building a 1,800 foot building but Chicago is building a 2,000 footer, so ether way its taller.
sexyrican77trey 2 years ago
yep CHICAGO invented the skyscaper! thanks to AMERICA u ppl know what a skyscaper is!Chicago does have the worlds best skyline in my opinion, but in most professional list, this guy isnt professional,i could make a list myself! anyway most professional list go like dis!
1.Hong Kong
2.Chicago
3.New York
idk way nyc is always in the top spots becuz it has alot of small buildings,i guess they count the number of buildings a city has plus how nicely placed the skyline is!Chicago sud be 1st

Exactly! Shanghai looks horrible, Dubai is just 5 buildings in the middle of a desert. Ok,New York and Hong Kong have nice skylines but Chicago should be first!
Nicholasr1996 2 years ago
this is based off of number of tall buildings :/ dont like that way of deciding the best skyline. it should be about city scape and archetecture. seattle should be like number 10 or higher. just about all chinese cities(hong kong exception) are hideous people are just busy gaga'ing over the 5 good buildings they have and dont realize that every buildings looks like it came out of the trash heap.
manly833 2 years ago
Nice List. from my travels I'd pretty much agree.

Though Moscow is pretty, towers aren't buildings.

70% of Hong Kong land is protected country park.
Hong Kong decided to grow "up" simply because they want to protect those natural habitat.

And how'd I'd know Hong Kong would be number??? Yeah HK and Shanghai are impressive but they don't even come near touching NYC. This was a total waste of my time watching this crap
darlingdino 2 years ago
NYC is definitely not number one even only compared within the western world.
fcfhkmelb 2 years ago
You've obviously never left the little town you come from! NO PLACE even comes close in comparison especially not Hong Kong which is slightly impressive to me. And I'm an LA born girl so this is saying ALOT!
darlingdino 2 years ago
Well, I live in Melbourne and I have been to NYC for a few times. I think NYC skyline is actually worse than even Seattle, Melbourne and Sydney. Dense and tall are the only two words I can describe NYC skyline. Simply dense and tall don't make a good skyline.
fcfhkmelb 2 years ago
Seattle isn't pretty nor do I think Melbourne looks like anything special but I'll agree that Sydney is beautiful. But in my opinion NO place comes close to NYC. It's not dense and tall now that the Twin Towers are gone but then again maybe I am just used to the way American cities are. I think it is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking. And yeah I understand how someone could say it's dense but I think it's spead out pretty well.
darlingdino 2 years ago
You should've called this the best skylines in CHINA and a few others in the world. Next time, make one of Asian cities separate from the other cities as it's very obvious you're partial to China and the rest of Asia. This was very disappointing. I'm sick of looking at China!

Lets have a look at their GDP(nominal).
Vietnam = $89.829 billion,
Per capita $1,042,
Population = 85,789,573
Hongkong = $223.764 billion,
Per capita $31,849
Population = 7,055,071
Despite having a much larger population, their their gdp(nominal) are still lower. Juz look at the difference between per capita. Its like an avg hongkong dude earns 30x more money then a viet dude..lol. Btw hongkong is part of China so how can they not have enough land to expand?
