  • i thought it was hitler

  • "Paint your butt white and run with the antelopes. As they say in Texas"

    Thought 1: Antelopes in Texas?

    Thought 2: Oh he's joking

Thought 3: I'm going to start saying that.

  • Alexander would've been turning.. in his grave.. "how many more people did I have to kill god damnit..to get some recognition here"

  • Jesus Christ, they were a bit slow on the whole Alexander thing weren't they?

  • @aaron9099 They're supposed to string it out, otherwise the whole program would last five minutes...

  • LOL I am south african and the guy did a wonderful impression on the boers lol loved it when i first watched love it now

  • I know this is BBC world wide but is anyone else a little annoyed at the advertisements.

  • Also, sorry for taking that joke seriously at all, but I do feel the need to establish that the reason many white South Africans left the country was not racism, but because the country was poorly off, and only now could their passports actually be accepted. I don't want to come off as one of those minority groups that's offended by everything, but I really haven't met any white South Africans who are still racist at all - they certainly wouldn't be in another country.

  • I am South African and I had no idea that was a pastime. I'm scared now.

  • People in Texas don't say that o.O

  • Something Quite Interesting: one nickname for "Giuseppe," Joseph, is "Gepetto."

Think about that one for a second...

  • Alexander wasnt left handed nor Albanian

  • @Bors9

     Prove it.

  • @iamantony1 Well Albania is a modern state ,and there is not one document that indicates he was left handed.

  • @Bors9

But he comes from an area of Albania that was part of Macedonia (Protip; all of it)

As for him being left handed? Well there is hardly any documentational evidence from that period but a few urns portaying him have him as such. That being said, a majority show him as right handed. So yes, that was most likely pop culture.

  • @iamantony1 So basically hes from Ancient Macedonia(Pella), and there is not any evidence that he was left handed.

  • @Bors9

    Aye :p

But you still have yet to prove anything. He COULD'VE been left handed. And there is some evidence, as I said. Several urns had him as left handed. And he could be from an area and culture that would count him as an Albanian ancestor.

  • @iamantony1 just stop it.you're talking rubbish and you know it.and btw i want to see those urns where he is shown holding something with his left arm.(cuz there i non)

  • @Bors9

Look, there is no damned denying that he is one of the Albanian ancestors. That is a well known fact. Go look it up because I can't be bloody arsed with an idiot who asks me to cite sources whilst he doesn't do so himself. Honestly, I tried to get you to do so subtly, but you are just a boisterous, hot-aired bastard.

And I'm sorry, but I tend not to have pictures of things in museums lying around on my PC. And it's rather too vague for google. You go look for it yourself.

  • @iamantony1 He was son of Philip II of Macedonia and one of his wives, Olympias, a daughter of the non-Macedonian King Neoptolemus I of Epirus(that dosent make him Albanian).Second. "No evidence, literary or pictorial, exists from Antiquity to indicate that Alexander the Great was left-handed.Instead classical representations of Alexander show him as right-handed."

Jocelyn Penny Small (Rutgers University,New Brunswick,NJ,USA)

  • @Bors9 Who. The fuck. Cares.

  • @zacheryandersen it wasn't a quote, but a prophecy.

  • Where the bloody hell did Stephen come up with short left-handed epileptic Albanian bisexual with a very high pitched voice?

  • @SkrateBeastin it's a description of alexander the great

  • @SkrateBeastin ok i was thinking of freddy mercury the entire time but only just now i realize that that must have been the fail answer

  • Wow. I wanted to watch a 4 minute QI clip, but before it started, a 12 minute apocalyptic video played 0_o.

  • well birds nest soup is swift spit

  • I guess my jokes are just too advanced for such an antiquated European sense of humor.

  • Alexander the Great was born in Pella, which is quite definitely not in Albania. Albania didn't exist at the time, and even the closest contemporary Epirus did not include Pella. Of course, Alexander's mother was a member of the royal house of Epirus, but that doesn't make Alexander an Albanian or even an Epirote.

But I guess it would have been a bit too easy if they'd called him Macedonian.

  • how do you not get it after "son of Philip of Macedon" ? student of aristotle might have helped

  • an old lady gave me and my friend some sweets and they were a few years old..... we didnt look until we had eaten them

  • Maybe it's a north or west Texas saying, lived in south Texas. It's a big state, bigger than than Brittan, so someone some where at some point might have said it.

  • lol @zacheryandersen i concur but wtf is up with all the angry &/or mean comments?

are there no canadians watching? heheh

  • Comment removed

  • @cali0oak There are a lot of people with twisted up ethnic bitterness, who are still bent out of shape over what someone says about their favorite left-handed bisexual Albanian who lived thousands of years ago. You know what they say about long memories and short dicks.

  • a lot of dutch words in this program

  • oh i confused bisexual with transexual

  • i love how he keeps giving them clues until they get it and then everyone claps

  • Is there any way to stop these REALLY annoying pop up ads?

  • @khasab get firefox, download the adblock plus add on, there you go

  • old lady's cupboard as in a euphemistic sense - now that is more gross than antelope dung spitting contest..

  • @SuperTruth77 This officially makes you a sick fuck.

  • @SuperTruth77 You best be trollin'... but please not on QI videos.

  • howd they know phillip but not his 100 times more famous son?

  • people shouldn't take any "mistakes" made in QI in general seriously. it's a game, not a documentary, and they don't purposefully mean to injure anyone. it's just british humour, in all its weidness.

  • Haha i'm from Holland, and South African kinda sounds like Dutch.

Bokdrolspuug is the way you'd write it.

    Bok = kodo

    Drol = Poop

    Spuug = spit

    Sounds really awesome.

  • @wantopk Hey, I'm also from holland. And the reason why they sound dutch is because the Netherlands had a lot of settlements in africa, so also in South-Africa.

The Boer society is also originally dutch and german. And Apartheid is a dutch word.

  • "The internet is brilliant."

  • @hyenabutt - I like fruit-loops too!

  • As a Texan, I can definitely say that I've never heard that phrase.

  • I dont believe ive ever heard a Texan using that phrase before...

  • Lol. I live in Texas, and I have NEVER heard that expression :)

  • Come along now please! Haven't you got no townships to go to?

  • How is Alexander the Great Albanian and not Macedonian?

One country is on the Aegean and the other on the Adriatic, they're separated by about 1500 years

  • @adrastea99 Same area of land, If he were born now he would be Albanian. :)

    Excuse me if i'm wrong.

  • @EMYDreadnaught

    So Ghengis Khan is Russian?

    Emperor Justinian is Serbian?

Get the hell out, your logic makes no sense...

  • @adrastea99 "Excuse me if i'm wrong."

no need to be so aggressive.

  • @EMYDreadnaught

    OK then, you're excused

  • @adrastea99 If Ghengis Khan was born & raised in Russia, then yes, he'd be Russian. Methinks QI's professional researchers know a little bit more about it than you do.

  • @Redheadfury

Russia didn't exist at the time of Ghengis Khan and Albania didn't exist at the time of Alexander (who was born in what is now modern day Greece)

QI researchers have been wrong frequently before, usually viewers call in corrections and they say them on the next show

  • @adrastea99 methinks you will find that had QI used 'macedonia' instead of albania (both geographically in the same place, even if chronologically a good 2000 years separates them), then it would have been too easy for the panellists to guess. the answer. it's a game, not a documentary.

  • @Pemphetru

Macedonia and Albania are not, nor have they ever been in the same geographic area

The area nowadays called Albania used to be called Epirus and faced the Adriatic, where Macedonia faced the Aegean

  • @adrastea99

    They're neighbours actually...

  • @bioluedtke

So is France and Spain but Joan of Arc wasn't a Spaniard

  • @adrastea99 - Joan of Arc - that was Noah's daughter right? Oh, the hilarity.

  • "old ladies' cupboards under the stairs *wink*" LMAO

  • 5 year old Kit-Kat? I've had a 12 year old Choc-ice and it was fine (other than a bit dry)! Stop complaining Alan!

  • @DdlyHeadshot

Chos Ices are left in freezers so they don't go bad. A kit kat in a cupboard for 5 years is a whole other story.

  • do you know were the longer epsods are? ;p pleas reply!

  • @Mary0doll most weekday evenings on dave ;]

  • You'd have to be without internet for a long time before spitting poo seems like a good way to kill time

  • I've lived in Texas for more than 30 years and never heard that phrase used

  • giuseppe garibaldi used to live in brazil, married a brazilian woman called anita and then had to run away to uruguay because of a civil war that took place in the southern region of brazil, more specifically in the state of "rio grande do sul". this civil war was called war of farrapos.

  • As soon as he said Macedonia, I thought of the Iron Maiden song "Alexander the Great", where it says "Philip of Macedon-ia"...and then I knew it was Alexander the great.

  • Dear god even I knew it from the first time Stephen started listing characteristics and I'm dumb! Get it together team! For christ's sake. I can't believe it took them that long after "Macedonia" to get it.

  • @TomatoDreams I thought they were having a laugh..."Was he a singer?" But, no, they really didn't know.

  • I love this show..

  • ALEXANDER THE GREAT YOU IDIOTS

  • this was apparantly uploaded in 2003, when youtube wasnt even invented yet?

  • @hailo666 I wish you people would read the info. It was released on television on October 30, 2003. However, it was loaded to youtube - Added: - on June 20, 2008. Read the information section!!!

  • @hailo666 Have you maybe thought about applying logic to answer your own question?

  • there a reason they call it demo crazy....you wanna know something bout tyrants and a lone woman...see it goes like this...remember remember teh 4th of november

  • @TheFriedLiverAttack What happened on the 4th of November?

  • @epsleon its the date of my death and its horrible like charles the first in his death throws with the horse who arrse convent in a ghetto he was brightliy coulered.

  • Interesting , I was seeing this shoal of fish swimming past behind the funny folks in the video, when suddenly I realized it was the sun playing upon the surface of the water.

oh and also that not all of the folks was funny, but those who was made up for the rest of them.

  • Jeremy should be on QI again- he's amazing

  • Bokdrol spoeg is baie oud, ek dink my oupa het my daarvan vertel. Hulle het dit gedoen toe hulle klein was. Dees dea doen mense die nie want ... well daar is nou computers en TV, waarom sal jy will bokdrolle spoeg? O.o

T'is an old thing, Bokdrol spoeg ... I don't know any saffas that do it in this day and age .. ya know since we have evolved somewhat with the invention of TV and technology ^^

  • @Nevermore101 I love it how you talk 'Afrikaans'. I'm Dutch myself, and I can understand most of it. Loving it!

  • @xanxei Not meaning to sound rude, but while this is a comedy show, they wouldn't claim something that isn't true and so far they have been 100% accurate to their other claims that were against what we thought were commen knowledge. I'm guessing that Alexander was born in a region that is 'now' Albania or his parents were Albanian.

  • @craig1108 Yes. Alexander the Great was from Macedonia.

Funny how short people want to conquer the world. Look at Napoleon. LOL Guess there's an inborn inferiority complex, along with an AMAZING desire to make up for it???

  • @hideyourloveaway128 Actually Napoleon was 5'9 which was above average for his day, think I heard this on Qi haha.

  • @hideyourloveaway128 5'9 back then is pretty damn tall, the average person would have been 5 feet tall or so.

  • Does anyone ever get the feeling that Jo Brand tends to feel left out in QI. I don't know but there seems to be points where she talks on and on, then starts just making random gags and then eventually just says nothing. I have NOTHING against her - just making an observation.

  • Alexander the Great was never Albanian. He was Greek and Macedonian, and the only connection he has with anything Albanian is that his mother hailed from a region which is currently divided between modern day Greece and southern Albania. But there WAS of course no Albania back then, nor do we know for certain where today's ethnic Albanians originated, so saying that Alexander was Albanian is quite simply: wrong.

I know it's just a comedy show, but is accuracy too much to ask for?

  • Old ladies cupboards, Better than her Draws ;D

  • is it just me or do you want to be stephen fry...i mean have his knowledge and wit

  • bokdrol spuug?

  • man, he really had to lead them hard for the answer! hear Fry sigh at the end..

  • Joseph is practically the same as Jesus in Hebrew.

  • jesus is joseph, in latin.

  • Joseph came before Jesus, he was before Moses. Like Moses he was in Egypt.

  • oooops sorry, got my facts wrong. Apologies

  • I am from Texas and in 25 years have NEVER heard anyone say "Time to paint your butt white and run with the antelope.".

  • hahahahahah

  • @zacheryandersen

I think it's a West Texas thing. Do you twang or drawl?

  • @darwinmommy. I'm going to Texas this summer. I'm going to Dallas to see whether I think Harvey Oswald could have made that shot. And there is apparantly a very good revolving restaurant that sells buffalo...

  • @darwinmommy We don't really care.

  • @darwinmommy many a men that live in texas are

  • @darwinmommy Lol you are Texan

Nah, joking aside the Texan stereotype has been greatly overdone

I have to ask why are you watching QI and not expecting to see some American Racism?

  • @darwinmommy

You could have cut that even shorter, by not posting it at all.

  • @zacheryandersen well then i think it's time to paint your butt white and run with the antelope.

  • @zacheryandersen: Well, you obviously do what you´re told then :-D

  • @zacheryandersen I live in Australia and I've NEVER heard anyone say "fair dinkum" (whatever the hell that means).

And I'm the only person I know who carries around large knives, and I'm not even Australian.

  • @zacheryandersen You must be really disappointed.

  • @zacheryandersen - I think it went right over your and 62 others heads. :/

  • @zacheryandersen It doesn't matter that you or even anyone else living in texas may not have heard it, Stephen fry said it therefore it is true :D

  • @Ciaran0Cathain With that type of skepticism you should move to Texas. Give my love to Rick Perry, twat.

  • @zacheryandersen Who is Rick Perry??

  • @Ciaran0Cathain Google.

  • @zacheryandersen I just googled this Rick perry politician guy and I'm not entirely sure of his significance in this. Also I think you American's might not fully grasp European humour, you see, I was joking. :D I'm guessing you don't vote for Rick perry so?

  • @Ciaran0Cathain Well since you actually Googled Rick Perry and took the time to tell me so it leads me to believe it was not a joke, you're full of shit and a pretentious douche bag. Comprende amigo?

  • @zacheryandersen You're not overly serious at all are you? :D No need to make such harsh judgements about people you don't know. Take a chill pill mein Spanischen freund :P Or are you even spanish?! :-0

  • @Ciaran0Cathain

Points to the 2nd moon segment.

  • @zacheryandersen Do antelope even live in Texas?

  • @masaidan yes.

  • lol

  • te he

  • and here was i thinking that alexander the great was actually greek and phillip II was king of the macedon as in the ancient greek region of macedonia, neither albania nor the 18 years old Republic of Macedonia

  • well at least now you know the truth!!! (just kidding by the way)

  • Nope, he was defiantly a Macedonian born in what is now Albania. The Greeks regarded the Macedonians as being somewhere between true Greeks and the barbarian Thracians and Dalmatians who lived in the northern Balkans

  • At that time there was no shared hellenic culture greece was composed of city states and the myth that they considered Macedonians barabric is untrue.

  • Interesting, I'm perfectly prepared to believe that but from what I have seen it does seem to me that the Greeks had a shared culture in a very similar way to how many Western European nations do today. They certainly produced very similar art, architecture warfare and language.

As for Macedonians, that I am less sure about but they were on the boarder of where the city states of the Hellenics broke down to a more tribal culture-The Romans made the differentiation even if the Greeks didn't.

  • @SilentwolfGRRR Actually they might have since barbarians were not people who where uncivilized, rather they were people who did not speak Greek.

  • very good point however the educated elite of macedon spoke greek so they certainly thought Alexander was civilized

  • goooooood.... that took them long enough xD

  • I got one! haha :D

  • i was gettin a bit pissed at why they are associating a retard with an albanian lol but alexander oh well fair enough

  • i new the alexander the great answer...

  • Knew*

  • well noticed...

  • Old ladies cuboard..!!! Ha ha

  • *Cupboard

  • From what I've heard most of what comes out of Americans mouths is is is!!

  • bokdrol spugen...although it's probably spelled different in Afrikaans (my take on it is dutch, which is kind of similar to it). Sounds gross though...

  • this show is soooo fucking awsome

  • i always thought Alex the Great was tall...like the hollywood actors that play him. hahaha

  • well these days we would be mostly taller than anyone back in his day.

  • Since when did alexannder have all these,,, traits?

  • Probably when he was alive.

  • Well i have never heard about the sqeaky voice thing

  • and colin farrel deffinately wasnt short, and with a squeaky voice in the movie alexander

  • How the fuck could they know he had a squeaky voice and in histroical documents he was known as tall

  • I read in history books alexander's father ridiculed him when he sang for sounding like an eunuch, that would imply he had a fairly high voice when he sang at the very least.

  • Fathers would often ridicule there sons toughen them up in those days

besides alex was a kid at the time

  • wich documents say he was tall, could u point them?

  • Which* ........sorry lol

  • yu arre a pain in the ass...

  • -------->

    that way

  • None of Texans where I live say, "Pinch your butt, and run with the antelope." lol

  • Neither did Stephen; he said "paint your butt white..."

  • I've never heard that saying either. haha
