This is the stupidest movie I've seen in a while. Debra Granik has no idea how real people from the Ozarks talk and act. Trying to make it look like they really talk like they are in the movie Cold Mountain is ridiculous. It's 2010, not 1810. Definitaly not worth your time, unless you enjoy dumb movies.

This was a gr8 movie &I agree with the comments that this isn't for the people who have interests in movies only for superficial reasons (violence, sex). I love how this move focused on the characters and the heart of the matter and didn't add any typical "hollywood" types of effects like a sex scene or gory shock factor. Jennifer Lawrence was amazing as an actress and I think my favorite part(s) were her unconditional love for her family and their well being and her commitment to protect them.

The fact that women are more violent than the men in this film was a little surprising. I really liked it, the characters were excellent and the cast did a great job. The part that really got me was at the school with the Home Class & the military drills.

@jdt1976 I would agree that the accents are little to southern sounding, people around here dont talk that southern but anywhere outside the cities ie Joplin, Springfield, Branson. They talk very country and the further southeast you go the thicker the accent. Country and Southern sound different other than that looks great a movie to please the mind not the senses. P.S. very sad MO leads the nation for the 9th year in a row for meth problems. This poison is spreading across the nation.

yeah maybe not so much southern as it was appalachian, which isnt right either. its like they told the actors to sound like their from missouri and thats the accent they came up with. the characters also seem to not have a consistent accent among them. but if the actors arent from missouri, theyre not going to sound like they are. but if your from new york or california, you would never have known the difference.

@calsee3 The whole movie is about hillbillies whining. That's about it. Zero excitement and zero fun. Very dull and slow, plus none of the characters are likeable. Any scenes that seem like they might be thrilling go nowhere. There's also a random scene with little kids shooting animals. It has nothing to do with the plot, it just happens. Very disappointing.
