To anyone doubting Ritchie's skills, I recommend you to watch "Black Masquerade" live in Germany on YouTube. It starts with "Be afraid! It's the black masquerade!". It's a great testament to this man's technical and emotional playing skills on six strings. I believe he just stopped caring at some point during late 70s, which became evident in some of his playing.
Of all the comments on here, not one mentioned what a great copy of the video this is and excellent version (despite being rather short in length). Awesome video, OP and thanks for sharing it.
@jtmichaelson Plus, I know DP and Rainbow are basically the same with Blackmore & Glover (and sometimes Jon Lord) - but for some reason, and maybe it's me, Deep Purple doing the song seems heavier and more precise. Maybe it's Ian Paise on drums or Jon Lord on this version, but it just seems DP does it smoother and heavier.
@fonrelo this is NOT Beethoven's 5th symphony. Its the song Difficult To Cure that contains parts of Beethovens 9TH symphony (especially the famous 'Ode to Joy').
Please change the title - it is misleading. Thanks.
what is the big black thing on Ritchie's guitar? i see a piezo PU but i dont have an idea what is the big black thing... maybe the control things for the piezo?
Ode to joy ( titled "difficult to cure") on difficult to cure album (studio album) and played live on final vynyl album (live album with different tracks with Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner) and more a studio bonus the title "Weiss Heim" purely WONDERFULL
@barbatruc06 The "Finyl Vinyl" version was the best version of "Difficult To Cure" - some argue and say the album version is better - but the Finyl Vinyl version was epic. It's a shame Finyl Vinyl didn't do well and some people don't know the album.
@barbatruc06 "I Surrender" studio version is really a great track. That was written by Russ Ballard (Argent, "Voices" and Ace Frehley's "Into The Night")
@jtmichaelson Hello! Yes it's true! I forget it ! Russ Ballard had more succes when he wrote for other bands than himself! (Sorry for my english but i try to comment without google translate! I'm a frog from France :)!
And I know this because I saw Ian Gillian playing congas on the side of the stage, and Joe Lynn Turner was fired in 1991 (after the Slaves & Masters tour). Gillian rejoined (a third time) for the Battle Rages On album and tour (which is a kick-ass album, in case you haven't heard it).
Richie officially left after the 1992 tour and was replaced by Steve Morse before 1993.
@d1bobbyg Sorry, but it was the JLT era 1981-1983. Dio was awesome, though, but I liked him better in Sabbath - not to start a fight with ya. Rainbow rocked but Sabbath was more his speed, I felt.
hi mate, lol, there's no way we're starting a fight. I thank you for your correction and I respect your opinion, I like Sabbath too and many other good bands :-). Cheers! Oh, and nice to know that there are civilised people like yourself here ;-).
@d1bobbyg Sometimes it's hard to determine which ones are trolls that purposely just start fights and the ones who are just conversing civilly between posters. But we all here seem to be Rainbow/DP fans (or Dio or JLT fans) so I just didn't want to seem like I was being a pretentious jerk by correcting you. Thank you for the comment.
Ritchie Blackmore was so advanced on the guitar when he joined Deep Purple in 1968 that he had to "dumb it down" for main stream rock and roll!! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!
page is god do not mock him or he will get crowley on u also his playing only became a bit sloppy in 1977 when he was using heroin and blackmore was too much of a nerd to try drugs whereas page was the slash of his day but 1million times greater he is god blackmore is a 16th century twat who needs help mentally
check out a video called ian gillan ritchie blackmore battle on u tube its a funny interview blackmore says he will get his swedish friend to beat up ian gillan its hilarious
page is a better songwriter and the problem ive got with blackmore is after the 70,s ended his playing went seriously down hill if u watch deep purple live 1984 u will c what im talking about his sound was crap and he just starts playing solos all the time that dont make sense where as page only went down hill after bonzos death but if u watch the page and plant unledded dvd u will see he was back to his old self in no time
@arcturus915 I am not sure if I would say better, but I will say that Ritchie is often overlooked. People always mention Clapton, Beck & Page when it comes to the great British guitarist of that era. I would easily include Blackmore & Peter Green in that mix. I love that RB adds the whole classical elements into his work. My personal fave out of the ones I have mentioned is Jeff Beck. All the others I mentioned have basically said that Jeff is pretty much the best. But I love them all.
he's technically better but not as creative. he never came up with the riffs Page did. Page seemed to be drunk or high on many live performances and very sloppy
@zarni000 Not as creative? Didn't come up with the riffs? Listen bro, every single song he wrote consisted of an amazing set of timeless riffs that were on par with anyone else of the time.
@zarni000 you're right Page indeed created several totally new riffs and accords. But really that doesn't make him necessarily any better than Blackmore. to me personally, these two have been the top of any guitar performance rock has ever seen and I couldn't make my mind for 30+ years if I like one better than the other one.
