The theory that "Eostre" is a pagan goddess is based on a dubious claim by Bede. As for Ishtar, the only appropriate response is sometimes to laugh. It betrays you as another victim of our culture's mentality, that all of history revolves around a few white men in Anglo-Germanic Europe. Look at the bigger picture.

@MrReh1988 Uh..yeah..that's the point of the video. You worship the rebirth of your sacrficial god, we worship the rebirth of spring. It's all the same
@MrReh1988 look at actual history, easter was a celebration of fertility deities and spring in general of pagan religions, such as eoster. christians stole the day in order to coerce pagans to believe and even said jesus was resurrected in order to make the story under the pagans traditions
Jesus recorded this pagan day in Acts 12:4 Easter was being worshiped, but
was never right in the eyes of God.Christians allowed this pagan worship to come into the church.Makes one wonder how much other pagan practices are in the church? This can't be praising the one true God.
@vrghiks That's the thing. Your whole religion is just our pagan traditions reworked with new names. So there really is no way to keep them seperate. Your Jesus is just an edited for TV version of Dionysus, Mithras, or Osiris.
BS Samy Jesus was not born on dec 25th he was more than likely born in autumn and how does the last supper (passover meal) can as much as three weeks away from Easter, A loto fyou people on here need to research but when someone gives you the truth you give em th thumbs down dumb pagans no wonder they used to sacrifice humans

yes it is. the messiah said he would be in the earth for 3 days and 3 nights. How many days are there between "good friday" and "easter sunday"? Common sense should tell you that christ would have nothing to do with this practice that pre-dated his birth. easter is a celebration of the pagan goddess of fertility not the messiah.
@NickSayers: it is pagan. how long did the messiah say he would be in the ground? 3 days and 3 nights right? how many are there between friday and sunday? what does the easter bunny and easter eggs have to do with the ressurection of the messiah? even pagans will tell you that easter is a festival to one of their gods. ask. is the father ok with paganism? read the bible and study before making false statements.
Pagan = people. ALL people and cultures were pagan before Christianity was introduced, so it is so broad to label something as "pagan". why did Tyndale use Easter, Luther use Oster? Because Easter means ressurection. C. F. Cruse in 1850 AD pointed out that "Our word EASTER is of Saxon origin and of precisely the same import with its German cognate ostern. The latter is derived from the old Teutonic form of auferstehen / auferstehung, that is - resurrection." Easter is NOT from Ishtar. See my vid
It is still a celebration to a god other than the god of the bible. It pre-dates the event that christians have tried to tie it to. If you don't like the word pagan, switch it for a word that you prefer that means it doesn't involve the worship of the one true god. the bible warns against teaching as doctrine the commandments of men. no need to watch your video if you are supporting easter as a christian celebration. but just so I will be able to see what u mean a little clearer maybe I will
whatever the word means. the celebration never had anything to do with the messiah being ressurected until much later. Same with christmas and worshipping on sunday as sabbath instead of the 7th day as god commanded. So we can discuss what the word means all day and even whether or not it's accurate to call it pagan but that doesn't change the fact that it is not acceptable to do those things that are in honor of other gods or is the 1st commandment also done away with?
The only "heavenly" non pagan language is Hebrew. The English Word Easter ment Passover as well as Easter before Tyndale coined the word Passover. In every other culture other than German and English, Easter is 100% Christian, and has nothing to do with a Sex Goddess, Paganism etc.. It was never doubted if the early church (Before 325) celebrated Easter, but only the date it was on. ALL the church fathers celebrated it. Why throw it all out then because English Easter "sounds" like Ishtar?
Are you saying that the messiah celebrated and supported easter? the celebration (whatever you wanna call it) is in honor of a pagan goddess and pre-dated even the birth of the messiah so how could it have been for him? Please don't spread anymore of this false teachings that easter has anything at all to do with our savior because IT IS NOT TRUE. you are leading those blind enough to follow you to death. the messiah and his followers celebrated what we call passover not easter! stop lying

Thank you very much for your kind words. Some members of the Abrahamic religions seem to feel it justified to accuse me of worshipping the devil. maybe do of the origin of Santa Claus or the desendents of Ishmael...like what people exist today that come from Abraham (Haggar's son Ishmael) we know the isrealites are the hebrews/jewish people today...but who are the people that exist today from the bondwoman's seed which the son was called Ishmael?
Arabs are descendents of Ishmael, and of Shem+Hagar= a quarter Semitic, 3q Hamitic, the sacrifice of Ishamel..not Isaac, as in the Qu'ran. Ishamel+Jacob=12 sons! Muslims await 12th Imam,,Mahdi."the Obliterator".Christians await Yeshua who led 12 apostles! Eschatology=prophesyin Judeo-Christ+Islam clash=dire consequences.parallels ARE2 striking2ignore.Muslims call Yeshua "Isa" supporting Imam Mahdi+ sounds like Esau, twin brother of Jacob whom YHWH said He hated....Malachi 1:3 and Romans 9:13.
gross, you christians should really evaluate what you are doing. The Red easter egg comes from the sacrifice of infants blood birthed from raped mothers. They dipped the egg in the blood and that's where we get the painting of the easter eggs. Why would you want to mix that with a God of Holiness Love and judgment? Sounds luke-warm to me. sounds like you could be making a certain omnipotent character very jelous.
Very wrong here - Eostre is an Anglo-Saxon goddess attested by Bede, *Ostara is the unattested but reconstructed continental goddess name by Jacob Grimm. Both are Germanic, not what we know as "German". There is no connection between Eostre and Ishtar.
hey, i just want to say, great video, and well done. im really interested in all this kind of stuff, etymology n things...if u studied to learn all tht, what was the name of the course?? btw, i thought that as well as wht u sed, tht christians (or mayb just roman catholics) say tht the egg is also a symbol of the stone being rolled away from the tomb wen Jesus came bk to life...and was led to believe that that was the reason kids nowadays roll their hard boild eggs dwn hills??? pls get bk 2me x
the catholics said a lot of things. most of the traditions and holidays from the roman catholic church actually originated from the celtic and germanic religions in northern europe. in order to make the conversion process easier, they assimilated many of these folk traditions into the xian faith. early celtic crosses with intricate knotwork, or early norse crosses with dragon motifs are an excellent example of how pagan and christian icons were assimilated during the conversion.
i wanted to clarify that with traditions I mean the practices during Easter and Christmas, for example. I know Roman Catholicism also has influences from other regions of the world, but the Xian holidays and customs we associate with in the West have origins that came from pagan times.
I was told as a child that Easter was a pagan female fertility rite...to be followed by the pagan fertility rite of May Day, in which a pole is erected & maidens dance around it in celebration. Subtle, eh?
Anyhoo, back to Easter. I was told that women would color eggs & write there names on them & hide them in nature. Then children were sent to collect them...sort of like little sperm racing.
Then the children had to let the women know that they had found their egg. If the child who brought back your egg was female then you were to have a girl, a mle meant a boy & a cracked egg then you would not become pregnant that year. So it was some form of divination to some as well as a celebration.
There was some great information in this video, but I wish the delivery was better. It would have been better if she did not have to reach for what she was going to say. I do not know if there was a script or anything, but if there was, it might have helped. Also, I wish she had spoken with more feeling. Nathalie is great at both of these things. It was a good first presentation, but there is room for improvement.
As has been said, originally pagan meant those who lived out in the country. Country bumpkins if you will. Christians predominantly lived in the cities like Rome and Jerusalem. Kind of ironic that today, at least in the USA, we tend to associate Christianity with the rural parts of America and the cities as being a center of unchristian activity.
It's a royalty free song I got off of internetarchives(dot)org. Unfortunately, It was so long ago I don't recall the name of the name of the song or artist.
Very interesting video. But what about the Jewish Passover holiday, which led to the Christian holiday? I guess those are the more well-known Easter stories. I always wondered about the eggs and bunnies. Happy Easter to all!
Easter and christmas are Pagan holidays yes. Early church leaders in their over zealous attampt to convert the lost used those pagan holidays that people already celebrated and converted them over to Christianity. That being said a Christian is to give thanks always for Jesus going to the cross not just when your calendar says so. The unsaved will point to easter & christmas origins as proof that Christ is not God but in reality Jesus never said celebrate my birth and death only to take bread
the pagan religion is the oldest reigion on this floating rock so by what way is it a fraud? it is the original, paganism can be found in all the roots of human kind.
Judaism is the first "religion", as far back as Adam & Eve, then establishing a relationship with Abraham, but was meant to keep the integrity of HIS ppl (Family), v/ ppl who followed "the world". Paganism came about, during the meantime, as a substitute relationship (religion), which was inspired to man, by Lucifer, Azazael & other of the fallen angels, responsible 4 the current "world system", which we hate, but blame God for. God calls us into His Family & AWAY from the pagan.
@MarcusDarling4026 no shamanism is, Shamanism is humanity's oldest religion and healing art, dating back to the Paleolithic era. Shamanism is the root of all world religions and spiritual practices. As the Roman Catholic Church spread across the globe and confronted shamanism in its rawest form in Africa and the Americas, these cultures were horrifically decimated through slavery, disease and genocide.
@MarcusDarling4026 your diety and jesus have been proven to be far from the first and you religion as stolen pagan concepts. look at horus, than look at jesus. look at ask and embla, than look at adam and eve. i find it funny you worship jesus based on "his" word when his word was not documented till around 100-300 years AFTER HIS DEATH. christ people are gullible
@rippanation I agree with you. From the very time Adam chose to live without God, that way of life is called Paganism. And his descendants -many of them- chose to live without God as well. Because of that they began to worship many visible gods. Unfortunately, that worship (called paganism) has invaded and conquered today's christianity. The christian people think they conquered paganism but It's otherwise. Greetings.
I believe the term pagan originally meant a "rural person" and is derived from the term for a district. It also was used, I believe to refer to the "no man's land" between well-defined political states (like the space between the US and Mexico's guard points at the border. So a pagan was a rural person who still honored the old local gods, and a pagan recognized that other people had other (legitimate) gods.
So, it often was used to mean those who didn't believe in Yahweh as the only God (which would mean early Jewish people were "pagans"). We now tend not to use the term for the other "great faiths" (Hinduism, which is more a culture; Buddhism, which is a philosophy and experimental practice; Confucianism, Taoism, etc.) But this seems more to do with geopolitics than with definitions or historical usage. The video's use of the term seems completely appropriate to me.
It was used by Christian theologians between around 200 AD to present day to refer to anyone of a non-Christian faith similar to how Muslims will refer to non-believes as infidels.
Another definition in dictionary is "Any member of a religion which isn't one of the major world religions".
Words often have more than one meaning. As I stated, we could make a whole video discussing the different uses of the word and it's etiology.
The use of words as weapons to exclude or invalidate groups and individuals is as old as the use of language. This tactic is in wide and avid use today by all who wish to control others with words and their definitions. A wise person uses a number of different sources for definitions for their own understanding.
The Romans called the first Christians 'pagans' too, because it ultimately means an agrarian ignoramus (which is what most Christians were in the beginning).

Eschatology=prophesyin Judeo-Christ+Islam clash=dire consequences.parallels ARE2 striking2ignore.Muslims call Yeshua "Isa" supporting Imam Mahdi+ sounds like Esau,twin brother of Jacob whom YHWH said He hated....Malachi 1:3 and Romans 9:13.

gross, you christians should really evaluate what you are doing.

There is no connection between Eostre and Ishtar.

the catholics said a lot of things. most of the traditions and holidays from the roman catholic church actually originated from the celtic and germanic religions in northern europe. in order to make the conversion process easier, they assimilated many of these folk traditions into the xian faith. early celtic crosses with intricate knotwork, or early norse crosses with dragon motifs are an excellent example of how pagan and christian icons were assimilated during the conversion.
JD1985 3 years ago
i wanted to clarify that with traditions I mean the practices during Easter and Christmas, for example.

Subtle, eh?
freyagoddess 3 years ago 3
Anyhoo, back to Easter. I was told that women would color eggs & write there names on them & hide them in nature. Then children were sent to collect them...sort of like little sperm racing.
freyagoddess 3 years ago
Then the children had to let the women know that they had found their egg. If the child who brought back your egg was female then you were to have a girl, a mle meant a boy & a cracked egg then you would not become pregnant that year. So it was some form of divination to some as well as a celebration.
Peace.

The unsaved will point to easter & christmas origins as proof that Christ is not God but in reality Jesus never said celebrate my birth and death only to take bread

castletriglav 3 years ago
the pagan religion is the oldest reigion on this floating rock so by what way is it a fraud? it is the original, paganism can be found in all the roots of human kind.
rippanation 3 years ago 16
@rippanation
MarcusDarling4026 1 year ago
@MarcusDarling4026 no shamanism is, Shamanism is humanity's oldest religion and healing art, dating back to the Paleolithic era. Shamanism is the root of all world religions and spiritual practices. As the Roman Catholic Church spread across the globe and confronted shamanism in its rawest form in Africa and the Americas, these cultures were horrifically decimated through slavery, disease and genocide.

@MarcusDarling4026 your diety and jesus have been proven to be far from the first and you religion as stolen pagan concepts. look at horus, than look at jesus. look at ask and embla, than look at adam and eve. i find it funny you worship jesus based on "his" word when his word was not documented till around 100-300 years AFTER HIS DEATH. christ people are gullible
fullMetaLxMantis 1 year ago
@rippanation I agree with you. From the very time Adam chose to live without God, that way of life is called Paganism. And his descendants -many of them- chose to live without God as well. Because of that they began to worship many visible gods. Unfortunately, that worship (called paganism) has invaded and conquered today's christianity. The christian people think they conquered paganism but It's otherwise. Greetings.

One of the definitions of pagan is "One who is neither a Christian, a Jew, or a Moslem."
Early Christians referred to non-believers as "pagans".
We could do a video about the origin and meaning of the word, but this was correct usage of the word.
Happy Easter.
psychetruth 3 years ago
I believe the term pagan originally meant a "rural person" and is derived from the term for a district. It also was used, I believe to refer to the "no man's land" between well-defined political states (like the space between the US and Mexico's guard points at the border. So a pagan was a rural person who still honored the old local gods, and a pagan recognized that other people had other (legitimate) gods.
mattpier 3 years ago 2
So, it often was used to mean those who didn't believe in Yahweh as the only God (which would mean early Jewish people were "pagans"). We now tend not to use the term for the other "great faiths" (Hinduism, which is more a culture; Buddhism, which is a philosophy and experimental practice; Confucianism, Taoism, etc.) But this seems more to do with geopolitics than with definitions or historical usage. The video's use of the term seems completely appropriate to me.
mattpier 3 years ago
"One who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially an adherent of a polytheistic religion in antiquity"
Definition 1 - American Heritage Dictionary.
"pertaining to the worship or worshipers of any religion that is neither Christian, Jewish, nor Muslim"
Definition 4 - Random House Unabridged Dictionary
psychetruth 3 years ago
@psychetruth Thank you
NoteSlinger9 1 year ago
Yes, the word originally meant ""rural person".
As I stated, we could make a whole video discussing the different uses of the word and it's etiology.
psychetruth 3 years ago
The use of words as weapons to exclude or invalidate groups and individuals is as old as the use of language. This tactic is in wide and avid use today by all who wish to control others with words and their definitions. A wise person uses a number of different sources for definitions for their own understanding.

The Romans called the first Christians 'pagans' too, because it ultimately means an agrarian ignoramus (which is what most Christians were in the beginning).
