  • EAT A QUEER FETUS FOR JESUS

  • Just finished this book, an utterly fantastic read in my eyes. And it has been hard to try and find a book like this that has actually kept me wanting to read till the very end. Just brilliance

  • Thumbs up if you too think that Philip Pullman paid the guy 50 bucks right before the lecture to let him ask the question so he could give this answer.

  • @GuusR I've no doubt he anticipated someone would ask that kind of question and so had the answer rehearsed and ready. Not the same thing as paying a guy to ask it.

  • @Eldritchfan yes, i know. i was just kidding because i thought it was funny how it seemed like he really was eagerly waiting for the question. I can imagine how excited he got when the question was actually put out there because he wanted to execute and answer it so bad. And it's a great book by the way. Cheers.

  • What a fantastic response.

  • I didn't feel like flipping through the comments to see but has anyone read the book? And if so, how was it?

  • In case you want to read about Buddhist Scoundrels - - Nothing Holy, Tales of Zen buddhist Scoundrels by Mel C. Thompson.

  • oh its all so english, almost makes me miss home!

  • I love this guy. I can watch this clip over and over again !

He is right and this is what differs us from the terrorist muslims..... they simply just don´t get it !

  • No one has the right, no one has the right...

I dislike people which only know about rights but nothing about duties. They would likely sell their grandmother for 5 cents if once necessary.

Anyway, it looks not good for those people today since the clock shows.

    5TO[20]12

This is not the right moment for the false games.

  • @megatown

And what does your diatribe about "duties" have to do with the clip? And how, pray tell, are you meaning "duty"? Some tenuous and gossamer concept which melts away in light of societal pressure? Are you implying that Pullman knows nothing of duty? That what he does is not significant or beneficial or interesting or beautiful?

  • Comment removed

  • @megatown I'm intrigued. Perhaps you should explain his duty.

  • @jerrygreg2

I think he is old enough. Dont you think so

  • @megatown I don't have your belief. I think what he says in the video puts the point across well. Clearly you don't get it.

  • @jerrygreg2

    I do not believe, I AM !

You do not realize. you talking to the biblical spirit of truth predicted for these our times and the clock shows 5TO[20]12 ! So what about you

  • @megatown Could you share the prediction with me please? Something terrible in 2012?

  • I like Philip Pullman, but the idea of writing an offensive book just because you can seems a little petty. Basically, he is exercising his "right to offend people". Silliness.

  • @philiplyndonsaunders You can't be more wrong. If his only aim was to offend for the sake of offending, he could do it without devoting whatever amount of time he spent writing this book. He could have easily accused the questioner of being offended for the sake of being offended.

  • What a ridiculously non-sequitur response from Pullman. The audience member commented on the use of "Scoundrel Christ" in the title being offensive to Christians. There's an implicit question there, asking Pullman to explain his use of such a description. Instead of responding to this, Pullman chooses to misrepresent the audience member as attempting to censor him, and launches into a irrelevant rant about freedom of speech. Wouldn't just explaining the book's premise have been more sensible?

  • He does respond appropriately to the question: he recognises that the title may be shocking to some people and he says that no one has the right to live without being shocked.

  • @dave82au

    There was no rant.

"Wouldn't just explaining the book's premise have been more sensible?"

Only to someone who has no concept of subtlety. He dealt succinctly and beautifully with a whole swathe of such questions, laying them all to rest at once.

  • @dave82au Well no, since the implicit question wasn't asking him to explain the choice of title, but to justify it. Explaining the premise of the novel does not remove the fact that it is offensive to Christians, nor does it address the audience member's comment, eg "Well I called the novel this because...", "Ah, but it's still an awful thing to say." Pullman responds simply with "You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion it must remain", and he does so brilliantly.

  • @ThrivingFire I have read the book, and it's good. But it is not a patch on the novel, CHRIST, by Patrick Lewis Strachan. Strachan's novel is vastly superior to Pullman's book in every aspect. Many of the scenes in Strachan's book are disturbingly dark and brand the memory, such as Jesus killing the demonic Fred West, murdering members of the KKK and relentlessly hunting Hitler, but the violence aside, CHRIST is a brilliant story masterfully told, and one of the best horror novels I've read.

  • Well, i have to say i agree with everything Pullman just said in this video. Whether or not you agree with what he writes may be an entirely different matter. In anycase, people who do not like what he says really are not right to just stop him from writing, thats selfish and wrong. But i guess that just leaves people still offended so there are going to be complaints in the comments. It just leaves a difference in opinion and i think that should be expected. Can't agree all the time.

  • The way philip pullman countered this was jus awesome. This is why i love him so much :D Either way, No matter what he writes, he tells a good story

  • No folks, rather listen to Buzz Aldrin and what he tells us about the "Spacecraft" following them to the Moon....very interesting read...

And why do the nations' authorities try and conceal the fact that there are being in the universe that have advanced and sophisticated "devices" that we do not even - yet - have a chance to comprehend....NOT EVEN SCOUNDREL PULLMAN!!

Einstein must have understood that speed of light is a SNAIL SPEED....so why did he not tell us that....before he left us??

    ed

  • I have turned off the sound, so I can write here those lines, not hearing you voice of hell...

Now it is Christmas time; and scoundrels - LIKE YOU!! - also might love the tranquility of those days of the Holy Times!!!

  • It always amazes me that Christians are so easily offended.Christians are going to spend eternity in heaven, and the rest of of us are going to burn in hell. Why then, are Christians so concerned about people critisising their beliefs during this brief time on earth?Perhaps Christians don't really believe that any Human Being exists after death.

  • @henryporter101 The answer is simple. A Christian believes based on the Bible and teaching of Jesus Christ that those who reject Christ/God in this life, spend eternity away from the presence of God i.e. Hell, because they have chosen to do so. GENUINE Christians will therefore have a heartfelt desire and hope that all will come to the realisation of this deeply believed truth. To a Christian it is a difference between life and death - an act of love and compassion for others.

  • Lost people are like that; nothing to be surprised about!!: just do not read it or listen to this crap; I suppose he has not cut off the umbilical cord yet; - a man with extreme mother-binding; they lose reality.....

  • @onlinelondon

    Lost people? Oh please.

  • You tell 'em, Phil!

His eloquence in totally "pwning haterz" is quite admirable. I have so much respect for this man!

  • w w w youtube.com/watch?v=RAq1Im6uzr4

Well, Pullmann; dont you dare to write this crap about the prophet Mohammed; or are you too coward to risk the hell of Salmon Rushdie and the cartoonist in Denmark

You are crap in the world!

  • @onlinelondon they were both delusional. writing a book about the one pretty much sums up the other.

  • I am not religious but the fact that christianity can cope with a book like this proves it only the stronger from religions that cannot cope.

  • What a coward!! - he writes this junk about Jesus he only did good to people, an mass; - but he would not - as is the coward's syndrome - dare to write this junk about Mohammed; - the man who was opposite of Jesus; a bloody worrier....

And had he written this about the Mohammed, he would had his fatwa on his neck now.

    What a pathetic figure..

    eddy jacobsen

  • @onlinelondon you have obviously not read it then!

  • People are unwilling to accept the one think Pullman tugs at!! Religion does great crimes!! Until these crimes are rightfully recognized, dealt with and gone from the earth there will always be geniuses like pullman to show how evil it is and they will always be hated, ridculed and admired.

  • Had he written about the Koran and Mohammed in this sickening way, he would have been dead by now; and all this crap books would have been eradicated from earth.

The scoundrel Pulman can thank Jesus Christ for the fact that he can make scorns like this despicable throw-up!!

    What a petty old excrement-man!!

Today on the Swedish radio one could here the falsification of the word scoundrel

translated to deception......and would be very typical for Swedish radio!!

  • If only he could remember why he hated life so much he might stop using the internets as an abusive bully crutch. Was it the girl he once desired or the jobs he couldn't get hired? No, it's the sockpuppets and old tired arguments where his attention should be mired.

  • @phatferr Now you're writing poetry about me? You sure you're in college? If you were I'm pretty sure you'd be studying. You want to know why your sock puppet account hasn't shown up recently? It's because you're not using him, genius.

  • @TrollyAllNight You're living up to the troll credo...as long as you post a response. Poetry is creative...It's something beyond you I'm sure...Maybe you can read some more old posts and think up some more pointless arguments...you have to do something while unemployed.

  • @phatferr I'm not unemployed. The reason you don't want me to go through the old posts is that you're afraid of the truth. Your sock accounts, your lying, your total suspension of logic and reason, not to mention your strange need to always have the last word. I'm not the troll here, you are.

  • @poopstainignorance Hey Woody! It's Buzz! Poking the troll to see if he's still under the rock! Get A Job!

  • @phatferr Why don't you show us all how "creative" you are by posting another one of your stupid comments on my channel?

  • @SuckitTroll I've been busy so I haven't posted. I have a life you know. Where's my sockpuppet? Why don't you waste some more of your cheap time and investigate further. It will take your mind off of what a crappy life you have!

What have I done in two weeks?

    Maintained a 3.8 GPA

    Had fun with friends

    Studied

    Expanded my horizons

Went to the Rally to Restore Sanity

And generally had the best time with a girl...never kiss and tell.

What have you done? I'll post again when I give a shit.

  • @phatferr Can you please stop obsessing over me? It's getting weird.

  • @CrapStainHideous

Poor little crapstain. Stop leaving me love letters in my in box and I won't have a reason to post. You post replies to my comments then tell me i'm obsessed when I reply weeks later? Seriously. You're stupid.

  • @phatferr Replying to someone's post in a timely manner is called "courtesy." Replying weeks later is called "obsessive." And I'll stop sending you love letters when you send me one, you know how I love hearing from you.

  • @WhatIgnorance Calling me obsessive and then creating a definition that fits it is disingenuous and ignorant. You keep feeling the need to respond to me. What could that be? I think you're a homosexual. Why else would you keep trying to contact me? See how conjecture works? I'll define the situation then induce the fit when arguments arise. Don't worry though. You can stay in the closet. Your secrets safe with me.

  • @phatferr In the closet? By now the whole thread know's we're in a gay relationship, thanks to you. Way to spoil our secret.

  • @CaptainVideo890 You're still on this thread? Whatta troll!

  • @xXxMeme32xXx I have not posted here in over a month. I was, in no way, "still on this thread" when you used your sock account to leave that comment. And the fact that you think this is a "thread" shows that you are the troll here. This is the comments section, a place for people to comment on a video. Not a place for you to obsessively pester someone for over a year. Troll indeed.

  • @Crapstain69 Only trolls call this a thread. You're just angry like every other raging bottom.

  • @phatferr You called this a thread four times.

  • @crapstain69 You're the one that came up with the rule dick. I was just pointing it out. See if you can jam anything else up your ass besides your head.

  • Comment removed

  • @phatass You still jacking off this Crapstain douche?

  • @xXxMeme32xXx Oh! My sockpuppet! How can you speak without my hand up your bum?

  • @phatass I'm not your sockpuppet. I'm crapstains sockpuppet.

  • @xXxMumu32xxx I wouldn't be suprised.

  • I'm sorry, even though I do enjoy Philip Pullman's writing at times, I have always found him to be a hypocrite in some areas. He has stated many times that he doesn't believe in God, and henceforth Jesus Christ. How dare he write a story of Jesus, how dare he use a religious figure, and turn him into a character in which he will manipulate. Yes, he does have a write to right. But I have a right to be disguised.

  • @Smarty704 He can do what he wants because he is a human just like you. You can do what you want and he can do what he wants. Stop being a whiny little bitch like your Christian friends.

  • @randompeg I said he can do what he wants. I'm not stopping him. But I can be disgusted if I want to, can't I? If I'm human as well?

  • @Smarty704 Oooooooook, so you have a right to be disgusted and a right to bother us all with your whiny opinions. He can write about Jesus Christ if he wants to, just like I could write about George Washington or (more appropriate for this example) Cinderella (not copyrighted). So you have a right to be disgusted. Who really cares???

  • @ItsAnneChickenNugget The man you are supporting said in this video that I have the right to complain about it. And if he felt the need to say such a thing, he cares to some extent.

  • @Smarty704 Sure, you can complain all you want. It's just pretty annoying, especially since you can't even spell disgusted.

  • @ItsAnneChickenNugget And it is pretty annoying how someone who doesn't care about my "whiny opinion" has twice so far commented on them. And sorry, I misspelled disgusted. Thanks for pointing that out "oooooooook" (a word that is not spelled with 9 o's). And a quick grammar tip: you don't need three question marks after a sentence.

  • Well, onot idea what the book is about, i have to read it first. What i will do shortly.

  • @phatferr Popular = Lots of people like it. Influential = Changed lots of people's lives. You are the one being ignorant because you refuse to understand english.

  • @phatferr I can't believe I didn't notice this for an entire month. I just sort of figured you'd given up. Unfortunately, it seems I was wrong. And I've explained the difference between "popular" and "influential" in such a way that even you can understand it, stop being obtuse.

  • @phatferr I find it incredibly hard to believe that you got into a college.

  • @phatferr What, and yours do? How about your "opinion" that I want to see your dick? You think that accomplishes anything?

  • What about people who twist others' usernames into juvenile insults? Or people who feel a weird need to reply to every comment that they don't agree with? Or people who sexually harass others in the comments section on their profile? You are the one crying for attention. I'd be perfectly happy if you and your sock accounts would fuck off.

  • @phatferr Paranoia? You accused both me and "simplisto" of being a sock puppets. You are such a complete hypocrite. Do you expect me to believe you have nothing to do with xXxMeme32xXx? And seriously, college? Girls? Friends? Yeah, sure. Anyone can say that, but given your habit of consistently lying we know your word doesn't mean anything. Pics or it didn't happen.

  • @TrollyTrollTroll Who's xXxMeme32xXx? Who's SImplisto? Do you mean to tell me you went back and read through the previous posts? I must really be important to you. You don't have anything better to do than read three month old posts? How sad your life must be. You're good for the lolz though. You're nothing but pain wrapped in uninspired vindictiveness. The best part is...if Meme is my sockpuppet then why hasn't he popped up? Hello? Meme? By the way....are you unemployed?

  • @SillySadPerson Silly Silly Sad person trolling through the threads. He can't get get through life without taking his meds. Cobra has expired and his employment prospects mired. Why not trolly troll the threads until his damaged ego's inspired?

  • @Woof Woof! The Mutt. Alternatively known as Dogs or Yapping Dogs. Mutts are pack animals characterized by their loud barking – vociferous, repetitive, usually ignorant and irrational criticism of anything and anyone they do not like. Mutts frequently become obsessed with a few or even a single poster with whom they disagree, often for purely personal reasons. Like a dog gnawing at a bone, the Mutt will attack the object of its ire over and over again, making a fool of itself.

  • the christ was just an prophet no a god god sent jesus to jewish

    to foloow his commandments

  • I'm trying to get my book published, but nobody seems to want to even look at it. It's entitled "Allah is a Cunt"

  • I'm trying

  • if it offends then thats a bonus,as religion offends my intellect.:)

  • The book isn't saying that Jesus is bad or evil. It's saying that Jesus had a twin named Christ who saw him set up his miricles (faking them in other words). Neither of them are bad (that's what I've heard).

  • You couldn't say it better in forty-five seconds.

  • Very well said, and hes form Norwich :D

  • Very well said, and hes form Norwich :D

  • Voltaire's words very aptly applied.

  • Brilliant statement.

  • after rereading the His Dark Materials trilogy, i would expect nothing less from Pullman- a true literary genius.

  • "no one has the right to live without being shocked" thank you mr pullman for this nugget. Here's another nugget from Mikhail Bakunin: There is nothing more dangerous for personal morality than the habit of giving orders.

  • I don't know what he wrote about, and it probably offends me greatly, but I will fight to the death his right to write it.

  • @rfilyaw That is very heroic of you .......but that will just make you another guinea pig on the treadmill of intolerance.

  • Voltaire's words aptly applied in the 21st century. Inspiring stuff. Like it. Would you really? Benignly, Abi

  • @rfilyaw

    doubt it

  • @rfilyaw

Yet another of those many false allegories; defend the right so say so, one idiot philosopher has said so, and being repeated by equally idiots...

You have no rights to say or write - or do - anyting you like; - offending somebody in writing, in utterance or in action, is the same thing.

You have no rights to damage others.

Well, Jesus would not have cared so much about this crap; but those who are his followers is greatly offended and do not have the same power as Jesus to realiate!

  • Jim? Still waiting for a reply...

  • I'll grant you that. As I said before, inquisitions of one sort of another would have occurred with or without Christianity. But that doesn't excuse Christianity for having been the vehicle for so much misery. Other collective mindsets that proved destructive, like Naziism, have been relegated to the proverbial ash heap... and yet primitive religions concocted thousands of years ago persist. We should have grown out of all such silliness by now.

  • @sincristo You're contradicting yourself. So Christianity has been used as a vehicle for misery. How does that put it on the level of Naziism, an ideology based on hate?

  • @CaptainVideo890 How am I contradicting myself exactly? And to answer your question, Naziism is a form of groupthink, a tribal "us-and-them" mentality that dehumanizes the "other" and leads to tacit permission to commit horrible atrocities against them. Agreed? Now remove "Naziism" from the sentence above, plug in "Christianity" and tell me how the resulting statement is untrue (keeping in mind the Inquisition, the Crusades etc). With a straight face, please.

  • @sincristo It's untrue because you're ignoring the "love thy enemy" idea that is central to the ideology.

  • @CaptainVideo890 You seem to be missing the point entirely. Look at Matthew 10:34 or any number of other NT verses and you'll see that the "central'" tenet of loving one's enemy is actually not so central. Modern man, with his evolving sensibilities, has chosen to pick out the nice bits and ignore the rest, but that hasn't always been the case. This is the problem with Christianity; it's so vague it can be used to justify almost anything, from loving your fellow man to burning him alive.

  • @sincristo Well if you're going to complain about it being vague I guess I can't really blame you for having an opinion, I just don't see why you're singling it out.

  • @CaptainVideo890 Well, it's not as if we're looking at a lineup of equivalent ideologies here: Christianity has been THE dominant ideology in the western world for centuries. Ergo, it's the obvious one to single out. But all religions deserve the same scorn, and for much the same reasons; they stop people from thinking for themselves.

  • @sincristo If you're paying any attention to the comments on this thread you'd see that Atheism either falls into your definition of a religion or it deserves your scorn.

  • @CaptainVideo890 Certainly some atheists approach their disbelief with the same fervor you see in religious circles; that's human nature, and atheists are human. But that doesn't make atheism a "religion" in any meaningful sense of the word, although i realize it's popular among theists to characterize it as such. Redefining the word "religion"... or using it a broad, analogical sense to include anything people are passionate about... is merely a tactic and is frankly a bit dishonest.

  • @simplisto Oh! The "moderate" apologist appears! How bleeding heart of you to empathize with the opposition! Calling people names is much different then holding a gun to somebodies head. If you're offended by that then please, join blueboy99 in repealing the right to free speech. I'm sure you'll soon agree that Hitler was an atheist and Mao was horrible. You wouldn't happen to be a sock puppet would you?

  • @phatferr Moderate? It's not "moderate" to refrain from calling people names; from a debatorial standpoint it's much more effective to actually address and refute theists' points (a fairly easy thing, so don't pat yourself on the back too hard) without resorting to ad hominem attacks. In addition, I have no desire to reinforce the perception that atheists are shrill and hateful. Name-calling is a debate tactic most people outgrow in the 3rd grade. What grade are you in?

  • @simplisto What logic! Name calling is a debate tactic people leave behind in third grade? Really? You know that's not true unless you're not well read. The Greeks employed it often as well as the Romans. Then you could go on for hours about Shakespeare. Ad homenim? Please tell me where my insults were levied to prove a point. They weren't, ergo, no ad hominem. It seems you rather have a need to condescend. It's okay. Pat yourself on the back. You've successfully let your ego blind your logic.

  • @simplisto The shrill atheist meme? Your opponent is going to define you any way he sees fit. I'm not going to alter who I am or my method of communication to suit the needs of the opponent or the moderate in order to avoid a moniker that only the namby pamby among us are afraid of.

  • @phatferr Whatever makes you happy, man. It's too bad; you obviously have a lot to offer.

  • @phatferr You truly are insane. sincristo has made it very clear that he's an atheist, and for some unknowable reason he's decided to compliment you, probably because you're in "the club." The way you attack everyone who's just the tiniest bit different from you reminds me of a white supremacist.

  • @CaptainVideo890 " The way you attack everyone who's just the tiniest bit different from you reminds me of a white supremacist."

Hey, I would hate to remind you of your childhood.

  • @phatferr At least I'm old enough that it's something to be reminded of, unlike you.

  • @CaptainVideo890 Now your arguing that you're older than me? What?

  • @phatferr I don't have to argue, it's pretty obvious that you're not more than 5.

  • @CaptainVideo890 slobbering on your keyboard I see.

  • @CaptainVideo890 Now you're in troll mode. Ready to be fed?

  • @phatferr and @CaptainVideo890 hey what are you arguing for? This conversation hasn't anything to do with Pullman anymore... SO SHUT THE F*** UP my friends^^

  • @HemRoidRings Gee, trolling posts that are four days old. Felt a need to reply? What exactly did you add CornHoleOfTheRings? STFU. Go back to /b/ board.

  • @CordOfTheRings To call this "arguing" would be to give too much credit to the complete troll that is phatferr.

  • @Crapstain Hidous Please don't send emails to me anymore. I don't want to see naked pictures of your penis and leave my alone. I don't wanna wank together or cruise 4chan. You do know my age right? Leave me alone or I'll tell my parents and call the police

  • @sincristo Don't pay attention to this guy, he's a complete troll.

  • @sincristo Well, I think that fervor is what makes something a religion or not. Likewise, there are many people who say they are Christians who don't make decisions based on their belief in God.

  • @CaptainVideo890 Again, however, you're using the word "religion" only in a non-literal sense, which expands its meaning to cover almost anything. To paint anti-religionists as themselves religious you have to ignore the classical meaning of the word, which involves worship of the supernatural. We atheists may feel strongly about our position, we may even proselytise, but we don't have a deity or a "revealed" doctrine. So calling us "religious" is not entirely correct... nor is it honest.

  • @sincristo Thank you for explaining that to me.

  • @CaptainVideo890 I'm here to help.

  • @sincristo I dunno if I'd go THAT far....

  • @CraptainIdiot890 I would think Xtianity deserves more scorn. It tries to sell you a product that doesn't exist. Xstains just like playing victims. It plays into their martyr mentality. How have atheists taken away your rights or made your life unlivable due to their truth? How do you, as an Xstain, pay for your beliefs. How are you marginalized. You aren't. So suck it up on the internet little bitch when you hear a contradictory opinion. George Rekers certainly does.

  • @xXxMumu32xXx Rentboy..the best place to spread the word. I love the hypocrisy of Xstainanity. The love to send you to hell for doing what they do. But hey...they have the love of Jebus "behind" them. Maybe if I read Dianetics then I could get the acceptance of L Ron that Tom Cruise gets....before he goes to Rentboy. But then again...atheists are so contemptible...they try to tell you they don't really know how to live your life...only you do.

  • @xXxMeme32xXx I never said I was "marginalized," stop making things up.

  • Correction: "the divine stamp of approval"

  • I'm excited about this book, I love the concept.

  • So well put and that is the truth.

  • wrong mr smarty pants it's god's right to decide our rights and he says blasphemy isn't right so people must also have the right to enforce that right

  • Jesus Christ is both God and a Man and offending Him is a HUGE MISTAKE. Why would you do that anyway while He died for our sins because of His Great Mercy and Love for us. Do you want to be with satan in hell torturing you for whole eternity so much? Keep offending our Lord and you are in GREAT DANGER. Repent and return to Jesus Christ. GREAT WARNING is imminent, for all of us.

  • My history teacher is one of the biggest Atheits I know, but he still says that Jesus was a real person. However, he says from a historical poit of view, Jesus was not a religous figure but a political one who opposed the Romans.

  • @Spacedragon1000 Because "give to Caesar what is Caesar's" is totally opposing the Romans.

  • Fantastic answer.

  • @sincristo You think we wouldn't have had those things if he hadn't come along?

  • @CaptainVideo890 There would almost certainly have been other such atrocities in the name of other gods... but that's not the point. The point is that the belief in Jesus as all-loving and gentle is belied (among other things!) by claims that is he also all-knowing; because that would mean he knew beforehand about all the misery his vague and ambiguous words would cause. Of course, his divinity is not really a possibility in any real sense, unless one is willing to dispense with rationality.

  • @sincristo What are you talking about? How is "love your enemy" vague? Do you really think all of these problems you're blaming on Christianity would have happened if people had taken that to heart?

  • @CaptainVideo890 "Love your enemy" is not vague. And if that's all Jesus had said, I wouldn't have a problem with him. But he only preached nonviolence part of the time: other times he was a "live by the sword" type of fellow. (Luke 12:51, Matthew 10:34, Luke 22:36). But the worst thing Jesus did was affirm the bloodthirsty crap in the Old Testament, which has caused untold misery. The fact that nice Christians prefer to ignore this stuff nowadays doesn't mean they've always ignored it.

  • @sincristo But you still have no problem blaming nice Christians for it.

  • @CaptainVideo890 I don't blame "nice" Christians for anything other than promulgating a mindset that can be (and has been) used by not-so-nice Christians to justify marginalizing people who don't agree with them.

  • @sincristo The mindset isn't really unique in that respect.

  • Why are all the Christians and athiests arguing? Why can't you learn to just get along?

  • he seems like a very bitter, negative man....

  • I want my mansion.

  • That's a unique responce comming from such a magnificent author.

  • for anyone who has read the book, id like to know what you thought about the stranger

my guess is that he is a human, and is actually from the orphanage. but this still seems very debatable. if he is only human, he does some inexplicable things, as does christ the child

  • Well said! Applause!!

Too much worrying about offending someone's sensibilities, especially about religion. Blasphemy laws, book burnings, killing people for failing to agree on belief... are much worse ways of being in the world.

Non-believers are often offended by believers, so there is no monopoly on offense.

  • Well said Philip. I certainly won't read it. You may be surprised to know that by looking at God's laws in the Bible God has told us what is right and what is wrong, what do to and not to do. I always surprises me how people think that they are God and that they have the right to do anything they please. No wonder the world is in such a mess.

  • @butcherjw Which iteration of "God's Law" are we following this week. It seems a question that only those blinded by faith can answer. For every deviant Mormon pedophile polygamist, dance free Baptist, or Branch Davidian out there you have some other purveyor of "God's Law" ready to slit the throat of those who blaspheme...If you don't understand then move to Saudi Arabia. If you derive your morality from a book then truly you are immoral.
