I love raw cacao powder and butter and have no negative side effects. My body loves it and it's the most nutrient packed food stuff on the planet. I think there's a lot of hype around what's good and bad. I never smoked or drank a lot of alcohol and wasn't a big chocolate eater. I say tune in and eat what your body tells you too. You can't go wrong - honestly!
....but raw cacao has health benefits that come out especially in long term use, it is good for memory, blood vessels and yes, it contains a compound that is similar to caffeine (but it is not the same at all!) and not many people would call that being "addictive". There is a lot of low quality raw cacao beans out there so you need to know where to buy yours. Also the outer layer of unpeeled cacao bean is slightly toxic to keep animals away, but not harmful to humans in small dosages.
I personally think you are generalizing your own bad experience with everyone. It is very important with raw cacao that the cacao is HIGH QUALITY and raw cacao has tremendous differences in quality that effect not only the body reactions but also spiritual healing that this food has. There is a reason why raw cacao is said to be "the food of God's" and it can be used in many different ways for example for creative work and meditation work. It does raise blood pressure a bit, but....
I don't get heart palpitations, if your born with a hole in your heart, then ofcourse you will get those.... Raw Cacao is amazing - everyone - take it!
omg that you say it could give you heart palpitations is crazy. I had cancer and the tube where the chemo went was put directly in my heart so I'm almost positive I have heart problems because my heart rate is extremely wonky. My palpitations have gotten so severe recently I'm seeing a cardiologist and I never would have connected it to the chocolate! Also my sister was born a premi and she has a hole in her heart as well. So I am glad you are doing well! I know that can be a scary problem.
This woman is being negative about some of the healthiest foods on the planet including green tea and cacao beans. If your gonna be negative like the woman above then you might as well not get out of bed in the morning.
She should work for the BBC news, she'd be perfect. Huh!
If you want to be positive then you will understand that a healthy life style includes a balance of many different foods and activities. If you are addicted to smoking or cacao like the woman in this video then you are clearly not living a balanced life style. My point being is that obviously if you binge cacao beans or nibs then off course it is going to upset your cardiovascular system. Use your common sense and eat no more than about 30 to 40 grams once or twice a day maximum.
this woman is just negative about green tea and cacao beans and goodness knows whatever else so i am going to be positive and say if you live an athletic life style like myself the organic cacao nibs are good for helping to take your level of fitness to the next height if you have a balanced diet of fruit and vegetables and just add around 30 to 40 grams of cacao nibs to a chopped banana with raisins and sultana's then it can make a healthy increase in the long term.
theobromine is not a caffiene it is what's known as a stereoisomer similar effects as caffeine without the negative adverse effects caffeine can have on the body
I have been diagnosed bipolar. I noticed when I had a raw chocolate bar I was stimulated and feeling good but also sorta manic. eeh I just ordered 2 lbs of raw cacao nibs, I should definitley eat in moderation or make some bars for friends, thank you for sharing your experience
People forget it's one of the best substances you can consume. They also forget it contains Theanine.
Premium loose-leaf green tea, like Bi Luo Chun. Nothing better. Of course, we'll invariably get a few naive, white-bread folks that are going to argue with 1000 years of Asian tradition.
How much raw cacao did you eat when you ate it? When I eat it I eat about one maybe two tablespoons a day in the morning. I've noticed nothing like that but it does help me wake up a little.
IT's really something you do not want to eat all the time. I use no more than a tablespoon in a smoothie or just as an ingredient in some deserts. There is a slight come down, similar to after drinking a large cup of coffee, if used in large amounts. I see it as a small treat on the weekend or monthly. Theobromine actually kills the moths that hang around the actually nut.
I had one bar of organic dark chocolate in six month of not having any. I couldn't sleep and felt terrible the next day. I would say that the caffeine doesn't not agree with me. I could take one silver dollar size every six months. Thanks for sharing Natasha.
what's funny is in this chick's video of green smoothies she looks way better than this video of her talking about raw cacao. so must be green smoothies make you look better. chocolate makes you look uglier.

Theobromine, found in cacao, is a psychoactive stimulant. It is a drug just like caffeine. Additionally "raw cacao" sold in health food stores truly is not raw as it went to a dehydration process for preservation. It is definitely not a living food.
cacao/chocolate is not something to be eating on a daily basis, but as a treat. anyone trying to use as a "superfood" every day, or in the smoothies is misled. thanks for the vid!
It would be nice if you could tell us in a more detailed way how you got rid of habits like drinking a coffee/having a warm beverage... and thanks for your videos, always very helpful!! And yes, it's always useful to repeat that everything should be done in moderation!!
p.s. raw chocolate, gave me SERIOUS headaches. Everyone has their choice, but I say find other sources for energy like raw coconut oil. From what I have researched on coconut oill and heard from you, raw coconut oil gives you ENERGY, electrolytes, and helps immune system, and no caffeine. 1 tablespoon is great for me in smoothie, or even on it's own!
I get all those symptoms when I eat cacao beans also.....and I never ate raw chocolate, just the nibs plain. Just a spoonful will give me headache, heart pains, insomnia, irritability, and acne.......and not one good high feeling at all. I am certain I could get sick eating that stuff. Coffee never did that to me though.
I agree with everything you are saying, but still good to hear it isn't just me. I think all in moderation, but I can say from my experience that I found it did not make me feel good if you have more than a teeny amount, and i don't have any known food allergies, I had the same experience with the heart. I've been doing raw since May and you have been helpful SO MUCH, you don't even know. SAY NO to stimulants, I prefer raw honey or raw coconut oil (artisana, thanks to you). THANK YOU TRULY! :)
When I was first trying the raw thing, Cacao Nibs were one of the 1st things I bought since I'm such a chocoholic. Looking back, I was having serious heart palpitations, anxiety and panic attacks out of no where which I think were caused by the stimulant effects of the nibs! I was a mess. Once I stopped eating them I got a lot better. It was scary!
I have an addictive personality, and used to be a heavy coffee drinker (among a lot of other things). But I don't seem to have any addictive issues with raw chocolate. In fact, chocolate hasn't attracted me much since I've gone raw. And I used to love chocolate.
thanks for the cacao video. I recently got myself a bag of the raw organic cacao beans, i'm not sure how much of it to eat though. what i have been doing is eating just three beans per day in the morning. i dont notice anything but a bit of a high for a while. so for me its just a fun thing to try once in my life. i prefer my steam veggies.
I ate large amounts (5+ tbls) of raw chocolate DAILY for 3 years and I am taking a break from it as an experiment. I haven't had a single craving from it nor any negative effects from it ever.
Great video, a rare few people do have allergies to it.
Cacao GETS YOU HIGH...PARANOID HIGH. ONE NIGHT I WENT ALL OUT ON RAW CACAO. DRANK 6-8 CUPS OF "hot chocolate". BOY I GOT HIGH. I GOT SO MUCH ENERGY I CLEANED MY ENTIRE HOUSE FROM 12AM TO 4AM. WHEN I TRIED TO SLEEP I WAS SO HYPER AND HIGH I FELT LIKE JUMPING. WATCH OUT. MY HEAD WAS ALMOST SPINNING.
Im gunna be a judge at the next TRULY Raw - Best of Raw - Cacao Recipe Contest... to each there own haha... i think a perfectly balanced diet can contain lots of cacao with no side affects! I love it.. but my body naturally dosent want it when i over do it haah LOVE YOU NATASHA!
