  • What would the velocity of an 18,000lb delta wing aircraft be with 6,480lb of thrust? help??????

  • @JayLad92 I don't understand your question, since the weight of an F-102 was quite a bit more than 18,000 lb, and its thrust was much more than 6,480 lb. Anyway, the speed of an aircraft depends on the detailed configuration of the airplane and its altitude, as well as weight and thrust. For what it's worth, the F-102A could do 825 mph at 35,000 ft (Mach 1.25) with 17,200 lb of thrust (full afterburner) and a combat weight of 24,500 lb.

  • The ONLY REASON bush got his privileged ass into an F-102 was because of his dad...

  • Oh give me a break you political piss-ants!

George W. Bush wasn't the greatest president we ever had but at least give him credit: he could fly a fighter jet! Whether he was a good pilot or not is irrelevant; he was a national guard pilot and didn't see action like John McCain did.

Barack Obama couldn't even so much as fly a damn kite without getting instructions from his teleprompter! Only thing that idiot has flown is the USA's economy...straight in to the ground!!!

    Who's the bad pilot now?

  • @ryanspeed LOL Amen brother!!! Everyone calls George Bush a bad President. No president had to deal with the kind of issues he had to since FDR. And you're absolutely right. This country can't tolerate another four years of Barrack O"bummer".

  • It's a well known fact that Bush was an utterly incompetent pilot and in fact was removed from solo flight status in the F-102 and sent to remedial training. Poppy (GHWB) used his influence to get W into the National Guard as otherwise he was headed to Vietnam. Even W admits he was a crappy pilot.

  • @AC6RH I dont understand how he could be a crappy pilot when he was high all the time.

  • @AC6RH Do you have proof of this? Never heard of that happening.

  • @336kgf It is a well-known fact that AC6RH is a lying douche.

  • @SCE2AUX News to me. I just find stuff and post on it.

  • Does Everything in this fucking world have to turn political. You can't even post comments about a n old AF lead sled without someone starting the usual bullshit.

    Bush thisObama that.

  • @crorivpro so your a libertarian? Scumbag. lol

  • @3ISAMAGICNUMBR You don't know what I am. Your part of the problem.

  • @crorivpro I'm kidding. lol

  • @3ISAMAGICNUMBR Hey I guess I was bit slow on the uptake, Sorry for the hissy fit. I was a weapons mechanic on F 102's in 67/68 so you can tell I'm getting a bit old.

  • @crorivpro no problem. And now that I know you did such an awesome thing I respect you a whole lot,

  • S L O W.....sorry aircraft....was incapable of dogfighting.

  • @Greenhornet270 Since it was designed to be a Soviet bomber interceptor, I guess it wouldn't serve to use it as a dogfighter. But then again, you couldn't tell that to the Swedes with their Saab Draken, a fighter that was very similar to the 102 and was already doing maneuvers 40 years before the Russian Su-27 "Cobra" turn.

  • @RacerXGTO Furthermore, when the F-102 was designed in the 1950s, dogfighting was going out of style in military circles. Conventional wisdom was that missiles were the future of air combat and that there was no longer a need for guns. When the Vietnam War broke out and its rules of engagement led to frequent dogfights in air combat, the foolishness of this thinking became obvious.

  • Bushe's was a 106...

  • I always had a fondness for delta-winged aircraft and until the F-106 came along, this was my favorite.

  • When did they reshape the inlet diverter/splitter-plate?

  • My dad, Captain Robert Joseph Lucas USAF, disappeared in a YF102, November 24, 1962 over the Olympic mountain range. He or the plane have never been found. We were stationed at Paine Field AFB, Everett, Washington.

  • @bobalu1000 Sorry about thet man... you're Ol' man still out there, I'm sure he was a hell of a pilot, because the 102 was not easy...

I think the USAF should have done mote to find him....

I love those "Ol' days".. real planes, real people...

  • WAY TO GO GWB! - He was ready to blast invading cold war Commie nuke bombers out of the sky! GWB - the only Prez capable of piloting Airforce 1! Obama has been in a plane.

  • @marcusbondi Dammm... never found ? You tried to go ? Cover up ?

I'm sorry your dad still out there... the USAF should have done more...

  • BUSH FLIED RATHER LIED! get your fact straight please.....

  • I never seen Barrack fly one of these maybe he was to high in a differnt way?

  • HA!! Barack Obama could even fly a kite!

  • 00:30: Hot taxi!

  • It is highly unlikely GW Bush EVER actually flew an aircraft in the ANG.

How can I say that ?

Because of ALL the people in the Texas ANG during the timeframe he was supposedly in, NOT ONE remembers him ever being there*.

ONE guy said he remembers him - but this was a guy that GHWB appointed to an AF office in the early 90's.

And if you say 'that was a long time ago', I will say 'wouldn't YOU remember if you worked with a Prez, let alone the son of a Senator at the time ?'

    I know I would.

  • BUSH flew it, who is this Dan Rather posting Comments below? That is why Rather is unemployed now!

  • Rather was fired because he made Bush look bad...

  • @CVKent317 Rather was fired for FALSE REPORTING

  • @KatsOlman

You are clueless. I flew vipers for the A.F. (F16's) and know how the system works. My cousin also flew "daggers" for the ANG. FIRST, it doesn't matter who your father is, you don't get to track tactical unless you're in the top 10% of your class. Second, rules for ANG service are very flexible. THIRD, no officer with command responsibility is going to conspire to fudge personnel records. That doesn't pass the laugh test--except for dolts like you who know squat about the A.F.

  • @YD8189 WTF are you talking about? I was referring to the fact that Dan Rather was fired because he reported a false story about Pres Bush...Also, I am a USAF veteran who is INTIMATELY aware of USAF regs/ procedures. Finally, in my day the F-16 was known as the Fighting Falcon.

  • @KatsOlman

Sorry, bud. I meant to respond to Microdol. It's true that the name given by General Dynamics to the F-16 was "The Fighting Falcon" but to the guys who flew it, they were "Vipers". Depending on who you believe the name was associated with the

F-16 because it resembled a viper or the viper starship in "Battlestar Gallactica."

    Sorry, for the bad call.

  • This was the same plane George W. Bush used in the Air National Guard!

  • Poor plane.
