i always thought this song was about the first time you fall in love. and how it leaves a mark on you. the love that you felt for the person will always "remain". the place he wants to go isn't really an actual place. he wants to go back to the past. he goes onto say how friends are there to distract you from the pain. and if you dont have true friends, simple beauties like the sun can always help. hold the hand that rapes the hand is simply saying you have to forgive the person who you loved.
