  • Deutsche "Frauen" - nur mastubieren ist schöner

  • Sorry, as good as Norton is, he missed the last key and the best part of the solo. Didn't have his act together that night, but that doesn't diminish his talent or ability as a premier harp player, God rest his soul. I'm sure Bonnie was disappointed with his performance that night, but that's show business. Great song, great singer and performer, great harp player. I'm sure Norton was bummed at his performance and worked on it.

  • @surferpan I can't hear a thing wrong with his solo. Can you be more specific about "the last key"? Once you have the right harp there is no wrong key. As far as I can tell he's simply playing cross harp.

  • This is one of the all time most talented and sexiest women in R&R, R&B and popular music!

  • i adore her!

  • Music don't get better then this wow wow wow I had not heard of Norton Buffalo until I watched this I mean how many harps is that 4/5 maybe?, And we all know how grate Bonnie is.

  • I would fuck this chick long and hard TODAY.

  • How could there possibly be 9 "dislikes" on this great tune? Some slugs were born with a tin ear and black hearts! This is one of the all-time classic harp solos by ANYONE hands down, Norton just rips this piece apart with 4 diatonic harps, not missing even a bend! Maestro Buffalo RIP you bad boogie boy!

  • awesome

  • Is this the band from "Give It Up?" Freebo and T.J. Tindall, et al. With Buffalo sittin in, but no one could blow "Been Too Long At The Fair" like Butterfield

  • @TheWendigo1 I'm pretty sure it's Will McFarlane (MacFarlaine?) on guitar, not T.J. Tindall. He was in her band for at least a few years around this time.

  • I love Freebo!!!!

  • From 2:50: Sound so much like ELO's Showdown.

  • LOVE that harmonica stuff switching harps mid solo just wicked!

  • Norton killed it with the solo in four keys! Check him out on the Commander Cody We Got a Live One Here! album.

  • Frickin' awesome harp!!

  • Though L.W. died b4 her 1st record in 71, Norton, Paul, and Junior played on her records.

  • JUNIOR WELLS, SNORTIN NORTON, LITTLE WALTER, AND PAUL BUTTERFIELD ARE ARE MAKING THE REAL HEAVENLY HARP SOUND NOW. RIP:-(

  • @beboptube FUCK YOU! That is the late great Norton Buffalo who was a long time member of the Steve Miller band. He was hangin with Bonnie and she wanted a guitar solo on original lp Sweet Forgiveness and he came up with the now epic solo. However he had 2 use 4 different keys to get sound. Holding 4 harps and playing them all together is a awsome talent. Google his name and then think twice about your ignorant comment!

  • Bonnie is one of the greatest singers and musicians ever! I lover her voice!

  • You can tell by the comments who knows they're musical history and who should have kept their mouths shut. Besides that, what a performance, Bonnie always rocks!

  • just heard this on crime story season 2! , buy it it rocks

  • always one of me fav video's for decades WOW that is Rosemary Butler on the right, THE voice of Jackson Browne's Load Out/Stay

  • I sense that K T tunstall was heavily influenced by Bonnie Raitt. I could be wrong.

  • I have followed Bonnie since 1970...that is 41 years....no matter her hits or commercial failures she had a voice that went sraight to your heart and soul. She stills does, if you listen to Adele, a great singer in her own right, you will certainly hear shades of Bonnie there. By the way, the harmonica player is a man named Norton Buffalo who is an excellent musician and had his own also. I followed them in CA in late 70's and early to mid 80's.

  • @prettypeggy98 Thanks for the tip about Norton - I was wondering just who that was - he grabbed my attention. :) Was that Freebo on bass do you know?

  • @Ichnos71live Thank you so much for posting my video. Really appreciate it. :-)

  • Wow harmonica player desperate for Someone Else's Spotlight. Fail.

  • @beboptube You Idiot he's playing what was recorded on the record. Grow up.

  • she's playing this weekend. check the internet. She's better than ever!

btw, Norton was a genius on the harp!

  • @cowboythefukup She is on my list of "see them before they are gone." She is so damn amazing

  • @kendawg19 JOHNNY CASH GAVE HIS DAUGHTER A LIST OF "100 MUST LISTEN TO" (LEARN) SONGS...WHO ELSE IS ON YOUR LIST OF MUST "SEE THEM BEFORE THEY ARE GONE"? THIS WOULD BE A GOOD LIST TO COMPILE AND POST SOMEWHERE. MUSTSEE.COM?

  • @cowboythefukup The Trio (Emmy Lou, Dolly and Linda is on there!) Etta James WAS on there, totally missed that one. Bonnie is still kicking and AMAZING

  • I once knew a Bonnie...WoW, she was hotter that a pepper sprout and sweeter than fine red wine and pretty as a picture. Bonnie Reagan, where ever you are...here's to ya gal~!

  • awesome

  • Freebo on bass

  • This was the first song I ever heard by Bonnie. I've been a huge fan ever since!!!

  • My name's Bonnie! Yey!

  • I only came here to see Rosemary Butler

  • @Slimboyfat1979

It was a nice surprise to see and hear Rosemary in this video . . .

  • awesome job with the harmonicas - I play a fair harp myself and I know how hard that was to pull off........and what a babe

  • Norton had to play that many harps cuz of the number of key changes. And who else but the late, great Norton Buffalo could pull off such a task with such ease?!?! R.I.P. my man!!! You are missed!!!

  • @tamerswan thanks

  • how many harmonicas did the harp player go through in his solo?

  • Hey! Is that Will MacFarlane on Guitar? Anyone?

  • @Qnexion

Yes, it certainly is Will McFarlane.

  • This is an awesome cover . I bow to the queen, Bonnie Raitt - I love her bluesy take on this Del Shannon song . . And who is on harmonica?? - that guy is killer also .

  • She said herself that lowell George taught her to sing...somehow I doubt she needed lessons but I can hear his style in there! I bet he taught her a few tricks on slide too!

  • What a weeping harp!

  • The late GREAT Norton Buffalo was absolutely da MAN on a harmonica! R.I.P.

  • Anyone know when she took up the slide?

  • bonnie raitt never sang a bad song and to this day she can still fill out a pair of jeans

  • @1765709 yes she can

  • I have been a Bonnie R fan since the early 70s.. most people back then didn't even know who I was talking about when I did... ,, I never understood why, She was and IS one of the best Singer/Guitar playing Blues player around,.

  • @saturn9999999 I couldn't agree more. The first time I heard Angel from Montgomery I was enchanted with her style. Class act!

  • O I wish i was born earlier so very much, all this beautiful music and Hippie culture passed away when I was too young to enjoy it!! Fucking Lady Gaga's, Hip-Hopers, techno, rave, house and other crap, please let music come back, stop killing it now!!

  • i thought this was a cover of the Bon Jovi RUnaway... anyway BR rocks

  • I give her all the grammys and other awards..

  • What goes around comes around. Like I say about people like Rush Limbaugh.

  • What a goddess....

    Freebo is so cool.

  • WOW! two of my favorite and nicest people on one video - Norton and Bonnie! (What a loss Norton B. was.)

  • What a voice even then.

    Hilarious haircuts and outfits

  • @MikeMcDonald1 That is what people are going to call people's hair styles today 30 years from now.

  • I have always loved her voice! She is such an awesome musician!

  • adoro a voz dela =)

  • la la luv her 2 death .. my little soulful bonnie blues

  • Saw Sweet Bonnie do this live in Kansas City back in the 80s. Chris Issak was the opening act and he joined her onstage for this. Brought the freakin' house down!

  • Norton.......the best ...RIP

  • Great.....Great......Damn....Norton!

  • Personal opinion doesn't matter. In 60 or 70 yrs time none of us will be around and all the arguments will be worthless. Acceptance is what is needed. peace.

  • Bonnie Rait was the cutest little red headed thing ever. love love love love her. what a baby doll. my favorite red head and favorite blues guitarist wrapped into one soulful package.

  • Not wishing to intrude on this extraordinary argument (which seems worthy of a long-married couple) , but just wanted to say I loved the Del Shannon original so much that it was the only record I ever had to buy a second copy because I wore out the first one. And YET I also love the Bonnie Raitt version, with its Al Green rhythm (just started out as a bit of fun in a recording studio, I believe). It's a tribute to Del Shannon, but not a carbon copy. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

  • @oldgit32 Amen. I simply said I didn't care for this version.(I may have used the word horrible, but that is simply my opinion) and I seem to have stirred the pot quite a bit.

  • WOW!!!! To the harp player.

  • Well, she changes the chords and makes it "bluesy" and "funky" and blah blah blah and in the process she desecrates - that's right, DESECRATES -- one of the glorious songs from the days of real rock and roll. Disagree? Fine. "You're entitled to your opinion." And I'm glad Del Shannon got some royalties from this ridiculous 70s cover version.

  • @sallygal7 I agree completely. I am confused, however, why my friend mkeulr down there called ME a son of a bitch for simply saying this is horrible yet you take no flack whatsoever. Care to be a son of a bitch with no taste in music and listen to his/her suggested Justin Beiber songs with me? :)

  • what a soulful voice .. great version

  • God, this is horrible.

  • @shiloch What a no taste in music son of a bitch you are. Enjoy your Justin Bieber songs.

  • @mkeulr Wow.Such hostility simply because I think one song is horrible lol. I wasn't aware that this song was the gauge with which one's taste in music is measured. I am now forever wounded by the unkind words of a complete stranger on the internet. HAH! I may be a son of a bitch sir/madam, but there are much better reasons for it than not liking this song. You have yourself a pleasant day and I wish the best of luck with your obvious anger issues. ;)

  • @shiloch No Hostility. Nor any anger issues. And I don't know you. Thankfully. As for admitting that you are indeed a son of a bitch for reasons other than the dissing of this song. I feel sorry for anyone who actually does know you. As I can see from your words that you are a bit of a condescending son of a bitch as well. And please do not have a pleasnt day as I would think one who appears to be as negative as you are rarely does.

  • @mkeulr I believe the negativity in thisexchange is all coming from your end. Anyone who immediately resorts to calling a stranger a son of a bitch, simply because he shared an opinion of a single song that you disagree with, reeks of hostility and some definite anger issues. I can only image the tirade it would have elicited had I said that Bonnie Rait was altogether horrible and not just this one song.I happen to enjoy most of her music.. Would you like a hug? You sound like you need a hug,

  • @shiloch Initially I used the term "Son of a bitch" as nothing more than a term to describe a person in one of it's many uses. Look it up and you will see it is a phrase that can be used to describe astonishment or a humorous way to describe someone as for example, " what a lucky son of a bitch". However, with no negativity or animosity, I now use it in one of it's other forms of meaning. What a sad "son of a bitch" you are for taking the words of a stranger so personal. Get a life "Loser"

  • @mkeulr Well, to be safe, I looked up "loser".That wasn't very nice either. I offered you a hug and everything. Oh well, you can't say I didn't try. Guess I'll just listen to this shitty cover again and lick my wounds.

  • @shiloch Wow! Right on!

  • @shiloch Freudian slip, asswipe? sexchange? Need one? Had one? It would take a roll of Charmin to wipe your opinion, ignoramus/anus. I saw Del Shannon do this song in 1962, long before your illegitimate birth, and I still love Bonnie's take on it. Now, get off that sheep.

  • @slownoman Now Now. Again, such vehemence simply because I don't care for this particular Bonnie Raitt song. I'm not sure why you have gotten in a snit over it as well, but that is no reason to try to disuade me from fucking sheep. Sheep need lovin too and I will continue to pull the wool over my thighs despite your attempt to rekindle this thread by launching insults in my direction. How will I ever go on knowing that an anonymous stranger thinks I'm a lamb-loving bastard?? Oh woe is me!

  • @shiloch It is amazing isn't it, the swearing that goes on over a Bonnie Raitt cover of a Del Shannon song.

I like this version and I like Bonnie Raitt, it's got a funky 70's country rock feel to it, that's what she's doing

here, but I "prefer" the original, the haunting organ solo, the incredible early 60's falsetto, etc. that Del Shannon brings to it. I would certainly never be moved to spew profanity over either version though. Weird world of the internet.

  • @17865329 Indeed. All I did was express my opinion. One that clearly shows I don't care for this particular song. It wasn't even a slight against Ms. Raitt :) I tried to explain that I was a fan of much of her music, just not this particular song. Oh well, I've been called worse by better.;) I'm sure I will again.

  • @shiloch and then there were apes,,love to me is a woman that can play the six string and move as she does it .Like Prince does,,

  • @shiloch Dude..... It is a fucking song on the internet? Why waste so much time in a fight on the internet?

  • @mkeulr hahahaha.

  • The harp player was the late Norton Buffalo. Passed in 2009.

  • Love this version, done a few myself but this is an original...

  • ...saw bonnie a few years ago in dublin.....almost shouted ` you can love me like a man`........

  • 1977 was only a fews days ago...Bonnie you are destined for greatness~! So is that guy on the Harp. Anyone know who he is? Pax

  • Is that Banana on bass?!!? Gotta be early 70's...

  • @HoTaiBodhi

Bass player is known as Freebo. Also played tuba -- in concert and on recorders -- with Bonnie Raitt for 10 years.

  • Aaah 0:28 to 0:42 :D

  • Respect.. For a long, wonderful career. Thanks for the great music, Bonnie..

This song made me an instant fan when I was a wild teenager of the 70's...

  • Bonnie is just plain Amazing and Thanks for Posting My Friend !

  • 4 people should run away

  • the harp work is amazing.

  • I saw her is 77, this brings back memories. Ran into her face to face at a restaurant before the concert and did not realize it was her till she got on stage with the same clothes on. Crap I would have gotten a autograph!

  • I saw her is 77, this brings back memories. Ran into her face to face at a restaurant before the concert and did not realize it was her till she got on stage with the same clothes on. Crap I would have gotten a autograph!

  • Ronald Belford Scott (Bon) once said if he could sing one song with one girl it would be with Bonnie and it would be this song. Jesus frippin craters I wish that had happened. As Kennon said, "Imagine"

  • Bonnie was my first female rocker crush! Those dimples, that smile, and sex appeal were just too much. I'd sleep with Bonnie today, even though our combined age would be well over 100 ...

  • Thats the great Rosemary Butler on background vocals.

  • @genecorrado love her

  • Jesus... badass harmonica player.

  • Beautiful video... thanks!

  • I will love this song & say its my very, very, favorite a 1,000 times!!!!!

  • Bumped into this. I have the studio version on vinyl. Great stuff. Always liked Bonnie.

  • @31rx7 dude, you have the studio version! Many of us would love to hear that. could you post it here with link please?

  • @cowboythefukup Yes, on vinyl. I don't have a way to convert it to digital yet.

  • Stephen Bruton played with Bonnie from time to time. Does anyone know of any of Bonnie's video's where he is seen playing with her?

  • Hello Cowboy. Looked up the original CD version online and it IS fabulous.

It'll go down as one of the best recorded bluesharp solos of all time.

I think on this video, harmonica change number 4 he inadvertently puts the C harp in his right pocket instead of under his arm to be used again as his last harp in the solo, you can even see him fumble just alittle as he tries to find a place to put it. This not only puts him behind in his next changes but he also must end the song on the wrong harp.

  • Sorry....I meant "end the SOLO on the wrong harp." Where's my caffeine? :-)

  • @gsd6600 Glad you got to hear that version it is also genius!!! I hope 31rx7 will post the studio version for those of us that love his playing. I had heard several people say that they had seen him walking around in Marin and he was a really nice guy...I never met him but we have his music........

  • This video is a FEAST of auditory delights.... her voice and energy and the harmonica player!!!!

  • Harmonica player my butt! I think Norton is a magician! I'm pretty sure Mr. Buffalo is playing the song starting with a Cm...although a country tuned Db will do in a pinch. He then goes to an Eb, then a Db and ends on a C, all diatoniccs, probably repeats this order on the second verse of his instrumental. At least that's my take after a very short time messing with it.

An absolutely amazing rendition of this song done by a top notch band and an angel sing lead.

  • @gsd6600 On the album or CD Norton plays the first part the same but he plays a different ending and it is incredible, You have to hear it to believe it.!!!!! Hope you get to hear that one, it will stay with you for life. I remember seeing him play this on a TV show long ago. I think he had a tray in front of him that he put the harmonicas on then,,,I wish someone could put that on here. He was amazing. This solo made me buy harmonicas and find out just how hard it is to play anything.

  • Okay, the female backup singer- with the (big) blonde hair- also sang backup for Jackson Browne, right?

  • didn't know norton died. wow. what happened? impressive solo and performance

  • @guyglowmore1 Norton came down with lung cancer, virtually "out of the blue" about a year and a half ago. He was gone within a few months. We're all still kinda in shock.

  • I'd like were lived in 60 n 70' !

  • The undisputed goddess of the blues

  • even though i think he lost it on the last riff of his solo, HE IS A GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must have been difficult also to keep those hard to read harps organized, they seemed to be in different pockets at different times!! WE MISS YOU NORTON!!!!

  • Think he was fed with harmonicas instead of milk ;-)

  • Deeply missed...Norton.

  • THAT VOICE. Her version is such a stretch from Shannon's original but it's just fantastic! Absolutely amazing!

  • She is just the bomb man!!!!! Yeah, my very, very favorite!!!!! Lovin the harmonica!!!!! Have to see if I can play along with it!!!!!!!!

  • no comment We Live

  • She only got better..,. and better... and better!

  • Eita coisa gostosa de se ouvir, bom pra caramba. Gostei pra xuxu!!!

  • Bonnie is absolutely darling and a voice like an angel.

  • Wow i just love that voice of hers:-)

  • Cutie Pie..

  • I've seen Bonnie in concert several times over the years, including a few times w/ Freebo. I've seen her do this song before, but never w/ him on harmonica. Simply amazing!

  • i really apreciate the upload...i was lookin for the bonnies work since long time ago...my best regards

  • What a voice..

  • Looks like one of the better times with her and freebo, Bonnie's awesome.

  • Ditto: I'm a long time fan of Bonnie Raitt, but never realized the harmonica player was so good -- looks like four key changes.

  • @009o9 No key changes, he's just messing about! I've been playing for over 40 years

  • @geebuck49

Hmm, if my guitar is in tune, they are walking down "D", "C", "B flat", "A" during the harmonica solo.

I'm sure the solo would be fine on a sigle harmonica, but the idea of staying in the "fourth" intrigues me.

  • @009o9 I can't guess the key by ear (and I know next to nothing about harp) but it looks like they're in C minor judging by her capo. I was just about to post the same thing when I read your comment. Why not an E flat pentatonic all the way down? BTW, feel free to use the phrase "Judging by her capo" if you like.

  • @jon1156

Judging by her capo, it appears to me that she's merely capo'd to play the "C" chord with an open "A" fingering. I can't guess why she's using the capo, unless she learned to play the song in another key and doesn't want to change fingerings.

I don't know much about theory, but generally the blues harp is played in a diatonic fourth in a 1,4,5 riff. So, if the song is in "A" the blues harp would be a "D", more complicated songs can leave you "searching" for notes.

  • ahhh she's playing a Gibson Byrdland .. made famous by Ted Nugent ;-)

  • Old school music-pure magic, not magic created by electronic means- which is the reality nowadays for many of the "stars" in every genre of music.........................

  • Norton Buffalo... So fortunate we have this video to remind us of what a genius you were. Truly stunning performance. Long may you reign and play in the heavenly halls of Blues harpists. We'll all miss you much here on earth.

  • This is awesome footage! Thanks for sharing!

  • Love this version!

  • I bought her first album, back in '71 and adore her still. And the mouth harp! 3 different keys! DAMN! Watch that man PLAY!

  • DAMN! the mouth harp is BAD!!!!! Go on Mz. Bonnie, just sing!

  • I fall in love with her again and again!

  • Bonnie's best lineup ! fantastic !!!

  • Bonnie's best lineup ! fantastic !!!

  • bonnie raitt is so fking hot!

  • never saw her play anything but a strat. unusual!

  • Still my favorite performance of this song...EVER!

  • How this song is done!

  • glorious! thank you sooooo much for posting!

    what a goddess!

  • Snortin Norton Buffalo sure could blow like no other~! We all loved him so much and so glad that Bonnie the Babe chose him for this tune, it really made her tune the greatest cover of this song EVER~! She's a vixen and always has been! Lovin you~!

  • No one played as freshly or brilliantly as Norton, a double threat on diatonic and chromatic harmonica. Thank you for the great music.

  • @TheoBurke BONNIE DID THS SONG ONE TIME WITH PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLOWING THE HARP, GOOD VERSION ALSO, I HAVE DONE THIS SONG TOO WITH MY BAND, ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT I SING AND PLAY THE HARP AS WELL, DO A MORE BLUESY VERSION

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO

I'm sure you did a good version of this tune, but I can't imagine a bluesier version that what Bonnie and the late, great Norton have done here.

  • @TheoBurke i slowed ghe tempo down and increased the harmonica solo, not saying mine is better, just more of a Chicago Blues style, Bonie's and Norton's is awesome, not knocking it. one thing about blues, no one version of any song is better, just different

  • I love Bonnie, when is she back to Ireland, anyone know, please post a date and venue.

    Shane

    Ireland

  • Was in Christine. XP

  • A Rock history footnote: the guy on bass was the brother of Roseanne Rosannadanna. His name was Danny Rosannadanna.

  • One of the finest slide guitarists out there - So classey! Thanks Bonnie!

  • she's the best

  • I love this woman she rocks!!!
