Is your STI Modded or no? A stock C5 Corvette comes with either 345 Hp or 350 HP and last time I checked I beat a stock STI from a roll with my 1992 C4 Corvette pushing about 300 HP and a C5 Corvette would pretty much pull away from me. I may just hang with one.

rob213 a c5 z06 only has another 50hp and that is to the crank not the wheels its not a huge difference especially cus it doesnt matter how much power u have if u cant hook up
50 hp is a big difference. The Z06 is lighter and has better suspension too. Traction control and active handling also make a big difference depending if it's on or off.
well actually a c5 z06 and a 04/05 sti are around the same price these days, but the z06 will most likely have less miles on it, better gas mileage, weighs about 100lbs less, better interior, and have 100hp more than the sti. the only things that the sti has on the vette is AWD and 4 doors.
Like I said, opinions vary. I can care less about a sound system or HUD. I wouldn't mind some music, but I didn't something taken out of a sound studio to listen to music for them long drives. I don't need a heads up display to figure out I'm speeding above the speed limit. It gets really geeky about how many g's I can do in turn. All I need to know how fun it is and that I'm going fast.

bone stock STi's straight from factory are NOT made for off road because the suspension is not made for it. Bone stock STi's are made for technical road tracks because of their gearing.

A C6 Z06 with stock power and drag radials will dip into 10s and trap nearly 130 mph. Parts are cheap and the motor will handle a good amount of nitrous.

there is no disadvantage....the corvette comes with 350 crank hp which is like 290-300whp and the sti has 300 crank, which is 250whp...there is also a big difference in torque......the corvette is almost double the price of the sti...the corvette has 4 more cylinders than the sti so your turbo argument doesnt matter.....i dont see any disadvantage here, other than the fact that the sti is awd, but thats just the way subaru makes their cars
im just saying, Horsepower or not... i have raced built GSX's and 3000gt's that have no where near the HP/TQ im making in my nova. BUT on the street (me with street tires) they'll still lauch on me from a dig. on the strip its a whole nother story. my 60' times are outrageous compared to theirs (we've compared). i guess the only point im trying to make is traction is a big issue when it comes to launching, obviously in the STIs eyes its not a problem compared to powerful RWD car w/ street tires

I have a 1999 c5 corvette I purchased used for 16k. All stock except air intake and tires. I have yet to be beaten in the 1/4 mile or autocross by any sti or evo. Sti is a great car but ugly and heavy and close to twice the price of what I paid for my car.
my wrx isn't stock but i walk c5 vettes up and down the road and the specs for a stock c5 is 0-60 in 4.9 secs and 1/4 mile in 13.6 and a stock 06 sti is 0-60 in 4.7 secs and 1/4 mile in 13.2 just the facts and i beat stock sti's easy and still get beat by some modded stis so your c5 ain't shit
Get your stats strait. Are you dyslexic? It is the other way around stock c5 0-60 in 4.7 and 13.2 in the 1/4. I run 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 in 12.6 at 117mph. All I have done is air intake and tires!

I have a modded '02 Z06 that gets 20+ mpg with around 480 hp. Gas mileage is comparable with the STI. I am thinking about trading my vette for an STI though, because it's a lot more practicle, and I have to get to work in the snow.

the Gallardo is for sure faster in the 1/4 mile, however since both are AWD that levels the off-the-line playing field somewhat. The C5 vette is live-axel leaf sprung with MacPherson struts, the C6 is better set up the Z06 and other high end vette will indeed be faster in a straight line than the STi but on a bendy track, anything older than a C6 would struggle to come close the the STi on a track. also the very same turbo that supposedly cripples the subaru can easily counter acted with a chip.

However - lets also not forget that I'll eat that Vette all over town in any type of weather. They are both fast yet not even comparable. I'll take my 30k Sube over that 40k Vette any day of the week. Just my preference.

Look it up...Generally a good rule of thumb is that every pound of weight you add or subtract from your unsprung weight (wheels, brakes, calipers) will equal about 5 pounds elsewhere in relation to acceleration, braking, and handling. I'll be glad to find you sources and "show my work" just as soon as you show your Z06...which I doubt will happen...lol. Doesn't matter if the vette launched or not...the STi had clearly been able to hang on from a roll according to the vette driver.

a 1/4mi is 1320ft long, divide it by 12.5s is 105.6 (so the c5 is doing 105.6ft per sec)then take 105.6 and divide it by say 14ft (the length of the car) and i get 26.4
then same for the sti, take 1320 divided by 13.5s is 97.7ft per second, divided by 14ft and i get 6.9ft. then subtract 26.4 from 6.9 and i get 19.5..
and thats with the sti doing 13.5 when the average is like 13.8s?

50 hp is a big difference. The Z06 is lighter and has better suspension too. Traction control and active handling also make a big difference depending if it's on or off.

well actually a c5 z06 and a 04/05 sti are around the same price these days, but the z06 will most likely have less miles on it, better gas mileage, weighs about 100lbs less, better interior, and have 100hp more than the sti. the only things that the sti has on the vette is AWD and 4 doors.

Like I said, opinions vary. I can care less about a sound system or HUD. I wouldn't mind some music, but I didn't something taken out of a sound studio to listen to music for them long drives. I don't need a heads up display to figure out I'm speeding above the speed limit. It gets really geeky about how many g's I can do in turn. All I need to know how fun it is and that I'm going fast.

bone stock STi's straight from factory are NOT made for off road because the suspension is not made for it. Bone stock STi's are made for technical road tracks because of their gearing.

STi's have some mad out of the hole skills, only because of the AWD, but once you hit speeds where aerodynamics come into play, the STi drops off SIGNIFICANTLY. Sti Comes with 300hp stock as well as the corvette. not only that, but the STI can rev to 8000+ rpms, while the LS1's rev limiter is at 6000. im just saying, the vette is a little weak in the traction department

there is no disadvantage....the corvette comes with 350 crank hp which is like 290-300whp and the sti has 300 crank, which is 250whp...there is also a big difference in torque......the corvette is almost double the price of the sti...the corvette has 4 more cylinders than the sti so your turbo argument doesnt matter.....i dont see any disadvantage here, other than the fact that the sti is awd, but thats just the way subaru makes their cars

im just saying, Horsepower or not... i have raced built GSX's and 3000gt's that have no where near the HP/TQ im making in my nova. BUT on the street (me with street tires) they'll still lauch on me from a dig. on the strip its a whole nother story. my 60' times are outrageous compared to theirs (we've compared). i guess the only point im trying to make is traction is a big issue when it comes to launching, obviously in the STIs eyes its not a problem compared to powerful RWD car w/ street tires

I have a 1999 c5 corvette I purchased used for 16k. All stock except air intake and tires. I have yet to be beaten in the 1/4 mile or autocross by any sti or evo. Sti is a great car but ugly and heavy and close to twice the price of what I paid for my car.

I have a modded '02 Z06 that gets 20+ mpg with around 480 hp. Gas mileage is comparable with the STI. I am thinking about trading my vette for an STI though, because it's a lot more practicle, and I have to get to work in the snow.

the Gallardo is for sure faster in the 1/4 mile, however since both are AWD that levels the off-the-line playing field somewhat. The C5 vette is live-axel leaf sprung with MacPherson struts, the C6 is better set up the Z06 and other high end vette will indeed be faster in a straight line than the STi but on a bendy track, anything older than a C6 would struggle to come close the the STi on a track. also the very same turbo that supposedly cripples the subaru can easily counter acted with a chip.

Ok - let's be fair and not act like retards. I own an '05 STi and yes it will eat most Vette's 0-80 due to its AWD. And, yes my STi will keep up with the Vette afterwards until about 140. After that my SUBE will be nothing but a little silver 4 door in a review mirror.
However - lets also not forget that I'll eat that Vette all over town in any type of weather. They are both fast yet not even comparable. I'll take my 30k Sube over that 40k Vette any day of the week. Just my preference.

Lol...owning a Z06 isn't going to make you an expert on the subject. Heavier wheels can have adverse effects on a car's accerleration....regardless of model. Also at the stop light he'd said, "yeah you were hanging"...so I assume the STi was keeping up from a roll. That or the guy in the Vette was giving out random compliments to a ricer for no reason.. BTW, put up a vid of your Z06.

any idiot with 20/20 can see in the vid how the vette never really launched, look at the other cars in the vid.

Look it up...Generally a good rule of thumb is that every pound of weight you add or subtract from your unsprung weight (wheels, brakes, calipers) will equal about 5 pounds elsewhere in relation to acceleration, braking, and handling. I'll be glad to find you sources and "show my work" just as soon as you show your Z06...which I doubt will happen...lol. Doesn't matter if the vette launched or not...the STi had clearly been able to hang on from a roll according to the vette driver.

dude watch the video, the vette was way in front and when they came up to the stop sign the vette driver clearly laughed when he said "yea you were hanging" then he spun his tires and immediately let off as a joke then the two dorky teenagers made some goofy comments.
why do you wanna see my vette so bad? does it really matter if i have one, i never used for my arguement that this WAS NOT a race.

wow please dont post such bullshit videos. C5s will do 12.6s, that sti might do 13.5s on a good day.. that vette would beat you by atleast 20 car lengths..

20 car lengths??? maybe by like 6, but they were on the street. i think a semi with a trailer could of fit with a short bus also.

do the math:
a 1/4mi is 1320ft long, divide it by 12.5s is 105.6 (so the c5 is doing 105.6ft per sec)then take 105.6 and divide it by say 14ft (the length of the car) and i get 26.4
then same for the sti, take 1320 divided by 13.5s is 97.7ft per second, divided by 14ft and i get 6.9ft. then subtract 26.4 from 6.9 and i get 19.5..
and thats with the sti doing 13.5 when the average is like 13.8s?
