  • Think what you could do with a few cheap USB flash drives and a USB hub.

  • So ZFS is not "stand alone" FS..or better said...you cannot boot from it?

But it does look great...just get some cheap x86 sys. with cheap drives, install Solaris 10 with ZFS and you got some pretty serious server.

  • This video is pretty old. You can boot from ZFS now.

  • Thank you!

  • Who needs a massive product range. Just build great small, small/med, med, med/lge, large and xtra large machines - One of each would do - IBM don't do too badly with their pSeries

  • Ha! yes these are my words - I find myself constantly frustrated by Sun's business ineptitude - Sun ached and could have been the biggest and best - Brilliant techs but who even knows what Sun's strategy is from their Board - open source and MySQL / where was the money in that other than the $1bn spent? - SunRays are still the best piece of technology I have ever used - 7 or 8 years later and still hardly anyone outside government use them :-(!!! Massive, massive product range compared w/ IBM

  • This is very interesting & helpful

    ZFS looks very impressive indeed

Takes Solaris VM beyond standard of HPUX/AIX at last

    - If only SAs could easily change from VxVM/VxFS

I hope this doesn't go the way of SunRay, Java and CMT - Absolutely Brilliant technologies with palpably directionless marketing - Sun is the best at technology but not at business

  • >Sun is the best at technology but not at business

Hehe. Dunno if these are your own words, but nevertheless, you expressed my opinion quite accurately :-)
