Hammy's are omnivores so they eat grasshoppers, crickets and mealworms as protein. JUst be sure to poke holes in the lid next time so your hamster doens't overheat or suffocate.

It's healthy for them to eat some protein food. It's normal. I feed mine with worms, isn't that worse? But my hammy totally loves it. SHE GOES CRAZY FOR 'EM:D

Although, I think there were too many risks at doing this. The hammy could have suffocated and she could have caught diseases from the grasshopper. ;~; But I suppose she's fine, so that's good. :3

@cellur111 Yes, but there's a difference between finding bugs in the grass and buying then from the store. If this grasshopper had been boughten it would be sure to be safe. Also, grasshoppers can store more diseases than mealworms.
