The sad fact is, if he was yelling slurs from his porch, he was likely violating a statute of some sort. Disturbing the Peace, Disruptive Conduct, etc. Many jurisdictions now have laws on the books that can actually be read to allow misdimeanor charges for racial slurs, or other so-called "fighting words" (Telling someone to go fuck themselves, etc) EVEN on private property. Of course, I don't consider such laws to be in line with the 1st amendment. Tasering for it is unacceptable at any rate.

The sad fact is, if he was yelling slurs from his porch, he was likely violating a statute of some sort. Disturbing the Peace, Disruptive Conduct, etc. Many jurisdictions now have laws on the books that can actually be read to allow misdimeanor charges for racial slurs, or other so-called "fighting words" (Telling someone to go fuck themselves, etc) EVEN on private property. Of course, I don't consider such laws to be in line with the 1st amendment. Tasering for it is unacceptable at any rate.

I agree. Obviously the video is a snapshot of what was happening at the time, and I'm certain there was a before and after that we don't know about. He could have just shot his wife and called the cops on himself, or have an arrest warrant for burglary and in the past has been violent. I have no problem with cops taking precautions.
But the snapshot seems extreme without context.

Hm, a taser was slightly excessive, with that many police they could have yanked him where they wanted, still, saved time, kept the officers from getting hurt, stopped him from getting hurt, if they tried to take him while he was ok he would have thrashed about, probably hit himself on a door or something.
