  • Unbelievably beautiful! The way he plays the trumpet sounds like somebody's singing.

  • i played with him at my school....this man is hilarious and an awesome trumpet player

  • One of the first trumpet player that I heard.. He inspired me to be come one.

  • @n2m4k4 You and me both. I have to give Maynard Ferguson and Miles Davis credit, too.

  • Хорошая запись, хорошая игра, жаль, что нет видео!

  • I got a new pair of glasses that look almost exactly like Faddis's, just in the hopes that I might be able to, in even the most infinitesimal direction, emulate Jon's playing :3 This guy is a musical hero, and I would kill for a chance to meet him.

  • if only the gap in my teeth was that wide...

  • WOW words can`t describe !! amazing !!

  • An amazing jazz trumpeter showing his agility in the upper registers. I had the rare privledge of backing him up in Modesto, Ca. He one of the most inventive and tasteful musicians alive today. Once again Dizzy found another Genius!!

  • Jon Faddis isn't just some squealer. He is a true jazz musician

  • 90% mental, 10% physical

  • @bigmang25 musical succes is the other way round.............

  • @bigmang25 but I didn't said something about musicality sorry ;D

  • Try setting up the stage for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and just to annoy you, Jon takes his trumpet and aims it right at you and screams the hightest note right in your ear! hahah hes a riot!!!

  • This is amazing trumpet playing, but there is very little music going on here. I tend to agree with MrBosnian. And I am a trumpet player.

  • this is the most in tune upper register I've ever heard! This is pure shredding! The piano is also amazing!

  • I can play the note at 00:11! Not in tune like Faddis, I barely squeaked by, but that's still good for my age cause I'm almost 14.

  • @rockvaletrumpeteer i highly doubt that you are almost 14 and can hit that cuz i know full ride scholarship music majors who are trumpet players and can't even get close, i know that you will say that some of the scholarship is for technical ability but this kid has hardly any technical ability, he is at college purly for range. Now i'm not saying it's not possible cuz then we can look at wayne bergeron i'm merely saying that i doubt it and will until it is proved otherwise

  • I premature ejaculate to this shit...<3

  • Jon, I can't believe I have not heard this until now.

    AMAZING!

    John Carroll

  • This man is my hero.

  • This is quite impressive. Those are some nice squeaks as well.

  • @MrBosnian78 this "shit" is just about as genius as it gets

  • @Charmander6942 What is genius about it? That he can play high? Because that requires anything but brains.

  • @womb0womb0 hahahahahaha

  • @MrBosnian78 did u get hacked or something? this is amazing

  • He got in a fight with his sister when they were little and his teeth broke in the front and now that there is no resistance and a steady air flow he can play really high

  • @MrBosnian78 A lot of what trumpet players do requires strength. They work on many different skills, only one of which is playing high notes. Some can play a high note or two, but few can "live up there." Jon Faddis can certainly, as this performance shows "live up there" but it is a very tiny sliver of his ability. There are other videos that show his full ability.

  • como me gusta ese sonido unico es lo mejor

  • nowplaying

(Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of koba843 at twitter)

  • I think he always takes a pound of LSD before screaming in his trumpet! This is absolutely sick man! And his control! I can't hear any mistakes! Just listen the part at 1:30 ...perfect

  • A great trumpet player!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you disliked this video youre either deaf or retarded....take your pick...

  • Got to agree with Soaring Trumpet. When it comes to high chops nobody does it better than Jon Faddis, period. There are many great trumpet players and all excel in different aspects of the horn, but Faddis has control of the high register which is equalled by none. Jon uses a custom Schilke Mouthpiece, check their web site. If you get a chance to here Jon live, do it; you will not be disappointed!

  • what mouthpeice size does he use ? The megatone works good for the hight tones, and i just bought 1 - 1/2 for the high tones

  • Nobody can do what Faddis does. Period. Arturo can hit the high notes, sure...but just thin enough to squeal by. Maynard can play with those high notes (and he really is the King of high note trumpet performance )...but Jon can fully fill out high notes better than any trumpeter in existence. Respect.

  • @SoaringTrumpet Eric Mayashiro

  • @SoaringTrumpet What about El Gato?

  • this guy is absolutely amazing he blows my mind

  • Amazing, there is no other to describe the way he plays the trumpet.

  • He can surely control the high tones!

  • i bet he shot up steroids in his lips...

  • i bet he shot up steroids in his lips...

  • i played a concert with him when i was a teenager. very funny guy.

  • 2 Complete IGNORANTS missed the LIKE button,,,,, too bad for them.... Great Record.

  • Wow! The B section of this tune is beautiful!

  • Awesome playing. Great control of the high register. He's a phenomenon! This makes a great ringtone.

  • Awesome playing. Great control of the high register. He's a phenomenon!

  • BEAST.

  • his lips are gonna fall off like louis armstrongs did

  • @michaelbbennett14 louis armstrongs lips fell off?

  • when my band director heard this song again he was like a little kid, he started dancing and at the end of the intro he flicked off with the big high note lol god bless trumpet players

  • he's the best screamer i know

  • i kinda want to know if this guy knows what a low g is on a trumpet :P

  • @Halo3rockss He played a low G at 2:24 lol

  • Love the tea kettle comment...that is frickin funny

  • This video seems a bit jittery.

  • Jesus, he could have his own clef at this rate!

  • @MrHappyebby Don't hate.

  • I hear some Bill Chase influence coming out here. Jon is Bad ASS!

  • Wow this sound is Great Men!!!!!

  • i wouldn't be surprised if the intro of the song described his personality

  • @Eleventytwoo Flying off the handle?

  • I find it awesome that the steam from the bell made my old alarm clock read ERR, maybe it was the acid.

  • nice ! です.

  • Hey se le espera con impaciencia en el ajazzgo de santiago de cali

  • OMG!

  • my dog woke up and started crying because he was so high and I didn't realize it was on loud.

  • ive officially entered the amazing faddisphere

  • Jon in one of the greatest of all time. I had the opportunity to play with him a few times many years ago. Amazing doesn;t begin to sescribe him. This is one of my favories of his. Thanks so much for posting!

  • my favourite moment in this sing is 2:48 so cool...

  • Jon is a good trumpet player but as a person he's a complete egotistical asshole. personal experience.

  • @CoreyCookEnsemble

    That's disappointing to hear.

  • @CoreyCookEnsemble completely agree with this statement

  • @CoreyCookEnsemble I can see how he would come across that way. I met Jon at a concert once and actually got to go to dinner with him after. He took the time to sit and talk with me about music and life for about 2 hours. He then gave me his phone number and email. We're still friends to this day. I wouldn't call him a "complete egotistical asshole", just an extremely dry sense of humor. If you know that going in and dish it right back at him he loves it and will laugh with you for hours

  • I think his tone and register is 10x better than Arturo Sandoval. He adds more style, attack, and soul to his solos.

  • this is what I feel like saying about my sore back!!!

  • my papa is an excellent trumpet player. He loves Jon Faddis. My daddy plays for The Skeletones. Great Ska band.

  • The green box... not Jon Faddis.

  • What a sound. Wow, what a great sound.

  • Wow, that brings back some serious memories on tour. Do it up Devils!

  • GET UP FOR THE SHOW!!!

  • Jon Faddis is the master.

  • this guy is a beast. bravo

  • GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!

  • The amazing thing about Faddis is that his low range is as strong as his high range. Not many people in the world that can do what he can do on the trumpet. A handful, if that. His high range is like a needle going through your eye. (in a good way :)

  • I saw him live about a month ago. Amazing high notes. Hes just amazing.

  • i got to play with guy at a jazz concert, if you ever get to see him and wonder why he can play so high, just ask him bout that hole he shaved in his teeth

  • this guy must have been a tea kettle in his former life.i am sure glad he doesnt live in my building.

  • @MrHappyebby i dont think he lived in a building

  • @MrHappyebby i dont think he lived in a building

  • this made my ears crack... no offence.

  • @scared2eatAcake this make mah NEK BONZ crack...

    no offense

  • Respond to this video... This song shud be called

Step On A Crack -- Break Yo Mamma's Back

  • A true desert island disc!!!

  • not sure i like the echo... the trumpet playing is absolutley fantastic tho!

  • I JUST LOVE THIS!

  • Byron Stripling @ 0:55...

  • they put the text over his face so its okay haha

  • Faddis is just blowing free in this. Sounds like he is having so much fun just blasting through the horn's limitations.

  • teacher you greetings from Venezuela hoped someday I could be here navy trumpeter my very excellent their country Venezuela ejcucion technique of the trumpet

  • 10 out of 10 baby!

  • Comment removed

  • thats like saying im trying to bring heavy metal into a church! its just not happening! this song isn't "mood music"

  • Well he's in the Brubeck quintet so that makes him good right. I enjoyed the Kennedy center awards. Bill Stewart's dad was my mentor on the trombone and I'm glad i don't play the trumpet.

  • i think this made my eyes bleed...

  • I played trumpet back in the day and loved to scream but this guy's control is from another planet!!!!

  • I ask you a question: Does Arturo Sandoval, another trumpet virtuos, has any chance with this monster of the trumpet?

  • only cat himself

  • @efravi25 Arturo Sandoval is a master himself. It is difficult to compare directly because the recording invironment itself contributes to some extent to what we hear. But I think Arturo could hold his own with Faddis, Ferguson or anyone else.

  • @efravi25 Arturo Sandoval, as amazing as he is, does not compare to Mr. Faddis, in my opinion

  • @ahochler329 I´m not comparing Sandoval with Faddis, you have to read careful my comments.....

  • @efravi25 Why he can articulate and play in ridiculous ranges, his tone below high C isnt the prettiest. I say the only bigger monster is hubbard. but thats me, they all have their own perks

  • @efravi25

The only person who could possibly match Faddis in range and power, was Maynard.

  • I cannot believe I am related to this guy He is amazing!! 5 Stars!!! Wow!!!!

  • What do you mean you're related to Jon Faddis?

  • Most Faddis' are originally from Philly so I believe so he has also come to Reno and am anxios to meet him finally to ask him but I have every reason to believe that we are :-) our genealogy is near complete so its a matter of research lol

  • hahaha... this song made me laugh I so thoroughly enjoyed it. Dang that's great stuff

  • i think this guy definitely puts the jizz into jazz like it was originally intended to be indeed. Jass music -- for people who know how to shake there baby makers!! And I like the original spelling better. Don't be afraid peasants, an ass is a beautiful thing.

  • 12-15 holy shit i could not get that high until i practice alot alot more. but i can play the first note.. i shit YOU not

  • I think I jizzed a little at the beginning.. wait no.. the middle.. no.. all the way through this piece O_o

  • holy crap.. nice range.. i play trumpet and i can only get to the first note he plays.. thats the highest i can get.

  • simply amazing, jon faddis is the man

  • I met Jon in 1994 in Spfld Ohio where he was on tour with some cats along with Clark Terry. He had no idea who I was at that time. I was lead trumpeter for the Ohio Players. He was a total ass hole jerk, when I told him I was a trumpet player. Played me off like a nobody, and refused to take a photo with me.Clark Terry showed me how to circular breathe at that time. Big props to Mr. Terry.

  • I met him 3 1/2 years ago in Vancouver. He is very nice and quite generous with his time. Perhaps he had many people say, "I play the trumpet" so your 1st impression is a little off. (And I'm a fan of Ohio Players)

Clark Terry has given so much back to jazz in the form of education. I love Clark!!!

  • Maybe he has humbled with time and more gracious now. At that time he looked at the corn on my lip and laughed with sarcasm. You can't judge a book by the cover. Check out my video on here. Barack Obama Anthem Song by Dean Simms. I wrote and played all the music in my studio.

  • i knew he was a dick but he can flat out play good

  • I want his mouthpiece

  • doubt you could play it, my mouthpiece designer karl hammond has the one he made for him awhile back when he was still head of design at schilke it is literally 3mm deep, i shit you not

  • what sort of mouthpiece does he use?

  • Jon uses a custom Schilke Mouthpiece called the Faddis Model XL Heavyweight. It is basicly a Schilke 11 with an extra shallow cup and extra mass to help slot those triple high C's. See the Schilke web site for details if you are interested in one.

  • Hi, I know about that mouthpiece is closer to a Shilke 13B and the model what he is actually used is a custom model made by Scott Laskey.

    Greetings from Chile.

  • I play a 1and 1/2 c Bach mouthpiece which is a deep cup. I have a worked my my way up on those double high c's and g's too. No cheating on my part. the deeper the cup, the fatter the tone.

  • Agree with the deep cup. I play a Bach 3C and like the rich full high Gs and As. It just means more work but the rewards are there!

  • Chitown is no joke. When he is on his game, the man can play.Notice he said a layoff over a year....You can hear him blocks away....

  • LOL!!! chitowneclipse4ggs Sounds pretty good but you need to support with alot more air...

Your using more force and lips then air and relaxaition...

I will post a video of me playing this and look and see how i support my sound! :)

  • i see you have the range but you need to work on using air support. because i know exactly what you're doing and it's more with the lips, you've just learned how to play it louder than normal.

  • post a video of yourself playing LOL hahahaha LOL hahaha

  • post a video and i might believe you

  • 0:57 is Byron Strypling nice try covering his face tho. haha

  • umm is this dumb question or is he dead

  • dumb question...

  • hmmmmm!!!

  • He's very much alive.

  • Incredible, especially the part of 2:35 +

  • hey man. trumpetwise,,,,it's incredible....

    is it human????

    so nice

  • He is a lead player. He's just playing by himself now.

  • A lead player, by definition, is the first chair in a big band who leads the band in sound, style, phrasing, etc.

Jon Faddis is primarily a soloist. There is a difference.

  • Sorry to interject but Jon Faddis played lead with the great Thad Jones Orchestra for numerous years and can't be classified as just a soloist or lead trumpeter, but as a legendary band leader and trumpeter. The second chair in a jazz band is traditionally the solo role and I dare anyone say Faddis is second to anyone. Both you guys are kinda correct and kinda wrong...but good insight though!

  • jepp, but he has done lead work aswell

  • Jon is exceptional ...a distinct sound and style....just unique....Schilke mouthpiece as usual...

    There is, from PuertoRico,

Luis "Perico" Ortiz...5:06-5:10...not a screamer...but a super virtuoso trumpet player,Arrangers, Composers, Producers, Music Directors....

    Thanks for this detail....

  • I've heard Jon play this in-person before and he makes it look so effortless! Jon is such a nice person to talk to and incredibly humble; also quite a ham.

  • Lol, there is clearly a picture of Byron Stripling up there that was covered up...

  • There sure is my friend

  • Man, this is skilled trumpetplaying.

What a special talent. AND a nice tone too - it must be great to master.

  • Saw the gentleman once live. Blew my mind. Thanks for the post, and even more thanks to that ridiculously high horn playing.

  • well i see you put up my email man

  • indeed i did. i had to. lol

  • faddis is my favorite trumpet player ever!

  • is this sarcasm albert?

  • at 6:04, that's Byron Stripling

  • yeah i forgot to delete that one.

  • hey, the musical circus came to town.
