I got a new pair of glasses that look almost exactly like Faddis's, just in the hopes that I might be able to, in even the most infinitesimal direction, emulate Jon's playing :3 This guy is a musical hero, and I would kill for a chance to meet him.
An amazing jazz trumpeter showing his agility in the upper registers. I had the rare privledge of backing him up in Modesto, Ca. He one of the most inventive and tasteful musicians alive today. Once again Dizzy found another Genius!!
Try setting up the stage for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and just to annoy you, Jon takes his trumpet and aims it right at you and screams the hightest note right in your ear! hahah hes a riot!!!
@rockvaletrumpeteer i highly doubt that you are almost 14 and can hit that cuz i know full ride scholarship music majors who are trumpet players and can't even get close, i know that you will say that some of the scholarship is for technical ability but this kid has hardly any technical ability, he is at college purly for range. Now i'm not saying it's not possible cuz then we can look at wayne bergeron i'm merely saying that i doubt it and will until it is proved otherwise
He got in a fight with his sister when they were little and his teeth broke in the front and now that there is no resistance and a steady air flow he can play really high
@MrBosnian78 A lot of what trumpet players do requires strength. They work on many different skills, only one of which is playing high notes. Some can play a high note or two, but few can "live up there." Jon Faddis can certainly, as this performance shows "live up there" but it is a very tiny sliver of his ability. There are other videos that show his full ability.
I think he always takes a pound of LSD before screaming in his trumpet! This is absolutely sick man! And his control! I can't hear any mistakes! Just listen the part at 1:30 ...perfect
Got to agree with Soaring Trumpet. When it comes to high chops nobody does it better than Jon Faddis, period. There are many great trumpet players and all excel in different aspects of the horn, but Faddis has control of the high register which is equalled by none. Jon uses a custom Schilke Mouthpiece, check their web site. If you get a chance to here Jon live, do it; you will not be disappointed!
Nobody can do what Faddis does. Period. Arturo can hit the high notes, sure...but just thin enough to squeal by. Maynard can play with those high notes (and he really is the King of high note trumpet performance )...but Jon can fully fill out high notes better than any trumpeter in existence. Respect.

Jon in one of the greatest of all time. I had the opportunity to play with him a few times many years ago. Amazing doesn;t begin to sescribe him. This is one of my favories of his. Thanks so much for posting!
@CoreyCookEnsemble I can see how he would come across that way. I met Jon at a concert once and actually got to go to dinner with him after. I wouldn't call him a "complete egotistical asshole", just an extremely dry sense of humor. If you know that going in and dish it right back at him he loves it and will laugh with you for hours
The amazing thing about Faddis is that his low range is as strong as his high range. Not many people in the world that can do what he can do on the trumpet. A handful, if that. His high range is like a needle going through your eye. (in a good way :)
i got to play with guy at a jazz concert, if you ever get to see him and wonder why he can play so high, just ask him bout that hole he shaved in his teeth
