I took notice of Earl while watching a Chet Atkins TV special back in the 70's. Chet introduced Earl as his favorite player and the very best at what he did. When Chet says that then you have to listen. He seems to have an effortless playing style, unique in its economy. Definitely one of the all-time Great musicians.
My parents bought a new car in 1979, and one of the "sterophonic" 8-tracks was "Heart String", and it was beautiful. My mother died shortly after that, and I always think of her whenever I hear Earl Klugh.
i know right? that's when i was about 10 yrs old- and i didn't hear of him yet- i heard of him when i was in the 7th grade- so around 2 yrs after i heard this song is really when i just found such talent in his music-
Am ashamed to admit that I had heard of Earl Klugh for years but never bothered to check out his music. It took the the Eric Clapton Crossoads 3 DVD and the live version of this song to make me realise what I had been missing out on. Beautiful, soulful guitar playing.
This is my all time favorite relaxing CD, I have heard someone say he makes the guitar sing and yes he does, smooth as silk.

I sometimes wonder if he's capable of hitting a sour note. I love everything he's done since I first heard him in 1976.
