@kcirdrab I normally don´t call people idiots on youtube. I now would like to make an exception:
Kcirdrab: You are an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul has sticked to this story since the song was written in 1966. The graveyard where John and Paul used to "sag off" in the late fifties has a stone with the name Eleanor Rigby. And it´s a subconcious thing. The name must have returned to Paul when he saw the Rigby sign in Bristol and even without Paul knowing about it . It´s called creativity :-)
@kcirdrab Obout the gravestone: from oldies.about.com/od/thebeatlessongs/a/eleanorrigby_2.htm
Paul has denied any direct connection, but allows that the influence may have been subconscious; in any event, the gravesite is now a shrine for Beatles fans. Unlike the character, the real life Eleanor did indeed marry. (It is said that a "McKenzie" gravestone also exists nearby!)
@studerj37 McCartney's lying, he was lying with the original story about the name, he lied when it was found saying at 1st it was a total coincidence, & he's lying now saying it's possibly "subliminal"
I know yr a fan of his, but he tells fibs & plays games with facts like this - as Philip Norman said: "McCartney can't alaways be relied on as a historical source, as he has a tendency to re-write history", check his recent attempts to re-arrange the Lennon-McCartney credit on certain tracks.
Funny: he started then to rewrite the story in 1966/67, when he first told the story about Eleanor Rigby.
I beleive: The lies started with Lennon in 1971 when he started to rewrite the story in the infamous Rolling Stones inteview. Even George Martin reacted and called the interview " Lennon forgets". John even admitted it in the last interview he ever did. He lied because he felt resentful.
The McCartney version is good - same with John Lennon. They are both part of the same truth.
@kcirdrab Too bad the original credit was McCartney-Lennon. I`ve got the original "please please me" album and the songs are credited McCartney-Lennon so there you go. He changed the credit back to the original, and only on songs he wrote with no help from Lennon.
@kcirdrab Lied?? How on earth do you know that he is lying? this is the man who wrote "Eleanor Rigby" I`m sure he knows better than you the story behind that song.
@kcirdrabI This is only 10 years after he wrote "Eleanor Rigby" It might be the true story. Maybe the official story is wrong? I`m just saying that Paul knows better than anybody how "Eleanor Rigby" was written, cause he`s the composer. And on changing stories, John did that too.. That doesn`t mean that he`s lying. Maybe he forgot or something..
@Yellyist Yes, I agree he knows better than any1 else what's the truth .... it's just interesting that he's been caught out fibbing on it by the Walton History Society group , & to conjecture why he's doing it
I don't think he forgot at all, he was deliberately misleading people over it & he was caught out .... I'm just wondering why, that's all?
@kcirdrab Maybe he didn`t like the interviewer or something, or got tired of being asked the same questions about the same subject. Paul wasn`t too keen on the Beatles back in the 70`s. He didn`t play Beatles songs on stage until 1975. He didn`t like to talk about the beatles in the 70`s. He was focused on Wings, and wanted to plug Wings instead of the beatles.
@kcirdrab Good. I started to worry when you wrote "I suspect I know the real reason behind it, but he hasn't admitted it yet" cause i thought you meant that he didn`t want to admit that he was a double for Paul, and that that was the reason for lying about "Eleanor Rigby"
@conceptlab ... @ last some1's asked the ? - couldn't believe it when that other guy didn't
He made up the fake story about the origin of ER's name I suspect because either he wanted to keep the real source personal, or thought if he said in public where it came from the crazier elements among Beatles' fans might steal the gravestone, in the way they kept running off with the Penny Lane street sign, so he was trying to protect the grave from this kinda nonsense
@kcirdrab Sounds legit. But who really knows. All these strange stories have been connected to Beatle songs over the years. I tend not to over think them. But your story could be possible.
Good interview. I wish the quality was better, but what can you do?

@kcirdrab - "Wonder why he lied about the origin of the name Eleanor Rigby like this?" What are you talking about?

@kcirdrab What do you mean he lied?
IzzyWizzy1982 7 months ago
@IzzyWizzy1982 McCartney got the name off a headstone in a graveyard at Walton, Liverpool, not as he gives it here, i.e. he's lying.

@Yellyist Yes, but he's obviously lying about it, see my above posts, I'm just not sure why he's lying on that particular issue of El Rig's name
U make a fair point about the song credit issue tho

@Yellyist Mmm, maybe, but he started putting out this fib about Eley Rig's name shortly after the track's release in the 60's so that doesn't fit
I suspect I know the real reason behind it, but he hasn't admitted it yet ....
