do you have to help the mom cuz of her breed.. or does she just not do it alone? i only ask cuz my Himmy is having her first litter in 2 weeks and im starting to get a bit scared!!!
guess i am surprised you jsut don't let the mother cat do her thing? cats have been having kittens long before our time and will have them long after we leave as well. momma ususally doesn't need a hand
@madskyltd sometimes though, if the baby doesn't get cleaned fast enough, the baby can die.Since there are so many, thats probably why she cleans them her self.
Sorry but it is selfish on people's part when they do anything other than make sure the babies are positioned properly. God put the programming inside of them and there are reasons why you stay out of it. What a joy watching a stray cat I found have her litter. It was so simple and natural. All I did is watch in absolute fascination.
I wonder why they just did not let momma take care of it. getting them to breath and stimmulate circulation is why the momma licks the kittens. Also momma will chew through the umbilical cord and the person will not have to hold it.
@supersamer81 usually when the cat is acting odd like trying to find a "good nest" thats when u kno shes around her due date-by finding a nest i mean like da cat is trying 2 find a place to give birth such as in a closet or any quiet place
When my cat gave birth to 4 kittens 2 of them were stuck together by their umbilical cord and I called the vet to ask what to do they asked me to take it a animal hospital and I didn't have money to do that so I just cut it my self and I got a basket put the mom in there along with her kittens and she took care of them. Cleaned and feed them I didn't do any Cleaning it was the best thing I've seen in my life how she took care of them. Im glad I saw that moment. I love Cats
If you read the previous comment, the answer to your question is, the mom is delivery a kitten, and we help dry the kittens so they don't get cold. After she delivers them all she finishes the cleaning and starts nursing.
That may be true for birds, ect. but I don't believe that is true for kittens. One of our cats had kittens last year or so and from day one the mom let me touch them and hold them and she still cared for it. Even her brothers and sisters were looking after the kittens..
Once you're familiar with them, it's pretty cool. But, cats usually shun their kittens once others have touched them. I learnt that first hand many many years ago.
Wow, this brings back memories. I helped my baby deliver her kittens all four times before she called it quits. She was gorgeous and such a great mommy<3 I miss her.
On the subject of this video though, aren't the kittens supposed to be with the mother right away so they can drink?
They are with their mother as soon as she id done delivering. We are cleaning & drying the first kitten Desi while his mommie is pushing out the other kitten. Persians have bigger heads so delivery is tougher than other cat breeds.
They all join her after she is done delivering. She is the best mommie cat!!!
I noticed that you had to sever the umbilical cord and put it aside, I've always wondered if Persian cats eat the placenta like other cats do? I ask because my own Persian never eats anything that's not "bite sized".., we always have to cut everything into small pieces for him so he can lick them off
The umbilical cord was attached to the after birth which is almost as big as the kittens and looks like a piece of liver. I put it aside on a plate, till mommie cat is done delivering, and then she eats it-very nourishing and has and helps produce milk.
you are so lucky you got to see your Persian as a baby because my dad found mine in the middle of the road and people were stradling over her so he saw her picked her up and she is doing fine now but we didnt get to see her just born :(
my russian blue cat spice had 11 kittens but only seven of them are still with us and the one I picked out was the only white one of the whole litter and its I think a persian kitten to because the one in the video looks like the one I picked...his/her name is Alexandrea...she is 2weeks old so far yayz!!!!
Obviously the video has been edited, she does eat the afterbirth. This isn't "fawning." If you read the previous comments you would have read that she does need help, while mommie is giving birth, we are tending to the kitten being filmed. If you have the experience you claim, you would also realize kittens temperature has to be maintained otherwise they go into "fading kitten syndrome."
Generally, people should only get involved with the birthing process if the mother is in need of help. I've seen countless kittens be born, and they don't require all that fawning. In fact, for the first few days of life they are very sensitive to being handled, since their immune systems haven't strengthened. Owners should refrain from handling newborn kittens unless handling is needed.
Also, just pointing out mothers should be allowed to eat the placenta, as it holds valuable nutrients.
I am getting a persian kitten next time I get a cat because I never had one and they are cute. It has to be a boy because his name has already been choosen. He will be called Maximillion because I think that persians should have a long snutty name plus it is cute!
what im concerned about is why aren't they letting the mother do her job? they wouldnt have to worry about when the cord needed to be cut or holding onto it. when it turns white, blood's gone, and you dont have to hang onto it. mothers (usually) have an instinct for this sort of thing, even first mothers.
when my chihuahua had puppies, we had to help cause she didnt know what was going on and she didnt want to touch them, and the sac and cord were really slippery and hard to break...
do you still have the cats they are really really cute or.......or....... did you sell them are calico cat had 4 babies but 1 died but we named the others matilda, possum, jonny and thats all but we found a liter of 8 cats on the street we raised them and sold all but 1 named oreo i named him he was my cat he is 1 now and we have 7 cats in total and i love them all!!and one of my cats are 16 years old and dying but one of my cats are very pregant with kittens! REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE
Going back to some of the first responses-OUR PERSIAN KITTENS AND CATS have large heads, labor is difficult. As soon as one kitten is born, mommie cat his starting to deliver the next kitten. That leaves the one born with it's sac over kitty, wet and cold, and vulnerable. If a kitten's temperature drops too much it can go into hypothermia, and that leads to fading kitten syndrome.
The last kitten born- mommie cat can now do everything. She likes the help and we don't lose kittens!
thanks for the video , I had the same experience and it was lovely, I was reading everything on the net about the birth a week before , it helped me a lot . My cat had 5 beautiful persian kittens she was young and we had to help her with everything.
heh good job with the kittens. i wish i knew how to do that when my kitty had kittens but honestly she didn't really need much of my help, just company since she had only two and were 4 hours apart o.o;; yes strange but it happens and both kittens grew up to be frisky and healthy little fuzzballs that made someone very happy XD and just curious, how many Persians do you have?
No, it was easy to clean, cause all we did was wipe the kittens off, while they were on the heating pad-so they don't get cold, while mommie kitty is still delivering. When she is done she finishes all the rest of the cleaning, which she does the best. The umbilical cord is held, till we feel no more blood flow and the kittens are breathing on their own. Then is just separates easily in our fingers.
Thanks for the compliment. I think some of the comments are from people that have never helped deliver. Once again these are Designer Persian Kittens, they have been bred for larger heads.
We know other breeders that lose kittens every litter cause they don't help. We don't lose any kittens and it's what works for us and just wanted to share our experience. We appreciate all comments-good or bad.=^:^=
If you look at the very biginning of the video, you'll see I'm holding the after-birth. Before that, when the kitten comes out, I immediately suck the fluid out of the lungs whether the sac is broken or not. They are on a heating pad as I dry them which is like the mother licking them, this stimulates them. After they look like they are breathing fine-that's when I severe the after-birth from the umbilical cord.
Sadly there is a high kitten mortality more than most are aware of. Hope this helps!
We saw a different You Tube video on birthing, you can see the kitten struggling & trying to breathe, there was an air bubble because the mommie didn't "take care" of her kitten quick enough. All three kittens didn't make it-according to the comments.
We haven't lost any kittens helping out-It's what works for our Designer Persian Kittens. We appreciate any comments and don't take it as criticism-it's a chance to explain the process.
Persian kittens have bigger heads than domestic cats. That makes labor more difficult. We edited the video, what you don't see is as soon as one kitten is born, mommie goes into contractions for the next kitten. If we didn't help the kittens can be stuck in their birth sac, if their lungs aren't clear right away, or they aren't dry they get cold- their health is jeopardized.
We help until all the kittens are delivered, then mommie does all the rest.
Im not critisizing you for helping during the birth, but you could just let the mother clean them and all that stuff because the moms do as good as a job as you would do, probably better. Once again, I'm not critisizing you.
She does clean them. However while she is delivering other kittens, we help so their temperature doesn't drop from being cold and wet. There is a heating pad under the towel.
why didn't the mom take care of cleaning ext. my vet says thats why my ragdoll/persian rejected hers (C-secion) vet cleaned she never bonded. we lost 3 out of 4. next litter much better care allowed her to do herself
You could say they look vile as newborns {vile meaning unpleasant, gross}--virtually every creature is when first born especially humans. They don't stay that way long!
Your thoughtful and loving care you show towards these kittens restores my faith in the goodness of humanity. You have just made a woman very happy to see this. Thank you.
That video is very informative and cute!!! I didn't know there was so much involved with kittens being born...It's cute to see the older kittens being so concerned and caring!
That was...THE CUTEST VIDEO EVER. My obsession with persian kittens has just boosted up about 100 notches slash you people know how take care of them so wonderfully. precious!!
thanks,,, it was beautiful...

The mother didn't need your help. I'm surprised that she didn't reject
the kittens after you rubbed a towel all over them. Cats go by smell
and not by sight. The mother is supposed to eat the placenta. The
hormones in it stimulates milk production and makes her feel mor motherly.

It all depends on the cat, but because our persians have big heads, & Mommie Coco is small it is a little tougher of a delivery.
As you see the kitten Desi being delivered, Mommie Coco is in the process of delivering the next kitten.

They all get along, they are in the other videos. The video "Persian Kitten Love" shows them grooming each other. They are very close.
Our kittens aren't whinners, they are too busy drinking milk!---LOL

She does clean them. However while she is delivering other kittens, we help so their temperature doesn't drop from being cold and wet. There is a heating pad under the towel.
By helping, no kittens are lost!

You could say they look vile as newborns {vile meaning unpleasant, gross}--virtually every creature is when first born especially humans. They don't stay that way long!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
