  • could i use a TiP32 transistor instead of a Tip31?

  • could i use a TiP32 transistor instead of a Tip31?

  • easy vumeter

  • anyone pls help me with my diagram.

    edited from your instructables

is this gonna work? and what transistor has that kind of characteristics? "see image"

  • Does anyone know what transistor would make the LED's more sensitive to the audio signal? Because you need to have it at 100% for it to work well..

  • @brandonmrich You need an amplifier

  • It tells u the song before it plays, dip shit

  • hi can you tell me the name of songs.. specialy the second...thnx!!!

  • how to make

    1 tip 31 transistor

    a adapter(i use 12v)

    4 3 v leds (because 3\12=4)

    pixelglass

  • @MrNaufan

    Since when is 3/12 = 4

thats why u gota stay in school kids

  • i think i just had an epileptic fit.

  • How do get sound to play without a y splitter

  • @ivytigerRAWR you cant. unless you add a speaker to your circuit. and that would be a pain in the ass, so the easiest way would be the Y-splitter.

  • will it work TIP32B? :)

  • @ceh555

Any TIP32 will do, A B or C doesnt matter

  • WANT

  • I know how to make it I've read through you instructible a thousand times but uhm it hooks up to a headphone Jack right and if it does how does the sound play

  • beatiful :)

  • Okay, genuine questions..

If the 3.5mm audio cable that's wired to the circuit is plugged into the laptop's audio output jack, wouldn't it cut the audio from the laptop's speakers?

Like, where would the sound come from, seeing as the LED box has no speakers in it?

Also, does this circuit not need a resistor to avoid blowing the LEDs? Or are they a specific kind of LED that can handle the 12V power supply?

Looking to build one of these, and was just a little confused...

    Thanks in advance. :)

  • @SammYScenester Use a Y Splitter one for lights one for speakers.

  • nice terminator 2 theme remix :D

  • HEY MAN...HOPE YOU ARE LISTENING ....CAPS ON ...WHY DON'T YOU MAKE IT WITH AN ELECTREC MICROPHONE?....NICE I MADE THIS....WANT ONE PORTABLE ALSO ...btq 10/10 nicee

  • ok, so I wired everything like in the instructions, but the LEDs stay constantly on and barely flicker when the music is VERY loud....help?

  • Nice!!

please tell me where I can find the first song?

    MOTABEATZ-New

    I can't find it anywhere on youtube = (

  • Nice ~ Weill done

  • Check out my LED box, i uploaded it and its stereo so it activates with left and right audio, tell me what you think!

i described how it was done in the description!

  • Where i can buy this???

  • Nothing is cooler than watching mine beat live exactly as the video does. Favorite instructable of all time. Thank You!

  • I subscribed to ur brother !! :D

  • Iv just done mine, and it looks great :D

  • Yo I got a question.

When you hook it up to a computer, ipod or whatever, how are you suppose to hear the sound? Do you need an external speaker?

  • does the power of the light raise if you raise the volume of the musik?

  • @16jms yes it does :)

  • speak fucking english!

  • es la pega :P

  • A better onet watch?v=uOw_Ynx1tGc

  • @linux2k8 He made it, try reading the title.

  • Hey mate i like this where did you get this music led box pls tell meee......

  • taringa!

  • Im making this for my gf, will u still be able to hear the music if you plug an ipod into this?

  • Mine has a tip31c and it seems to like bass hits more than yours

  • Comment removed

  • nice LEDs and nice beat =D

  • Is it possible to hook this up to an individual speaker in a home theatere system?

  • Btw im going to try this with a 5x100 panel of LEDs, I'll post a video response if it comes out good.

  • Hahaha this is so sick!!! I am a semi-pro DJ and my best strobe just died, looks like i dont have to drop the 300$+! Thanks man!

  • kheb 2 ledjes in een buisje met water gedaan en aangesloten onder mijn beeldscherm en op de boxen :D

  • It doesn't work on my Ipod but mine works fine on my computer audio output???

I think the audio signal coming from my ipod is to weak??

Can i use like a more sensitive transistor before the TIP31C, so the sensitive transistor (which switches earlier, on a lower signal), amps the signal, like turns it into a 12v signal to drive the tip31c?

Is there a transistor for this, or is there an other way to amp my audio signal from my ipod?

    Thanks

  • @bas999888 i think you can use a tip 41

  • YEEEES, heb net de mijne afgewerkt :p

nu nog wachten op die splitter :((

  • Can i use a 2n3055 transistor for this???

  • I have a electret condenser microphone (WM-54B, 2.5V operation). Could someone please tell me how to connect that to the circuit instead of the audio cable/jack? Thanks in advance!

  • just wire led's with speakers and it's lighting.

  • I just finished mine today it looks great! Very bright. My problem though, is that when it's plugged into my pc and headphones with an audio splitter, only the right headphone plays. If I fidget with the 3.5 jack coming from the box, sound occasionally plays right. It works fine on other pcs and with cheap ear-buds. Any idea as to why this is?

  • @rockhoppergames Fixed it! Great instructable!

  • man i can get them to work but they just don't shine much! they just blink barely visible :@

    any help? much appreciated

  • may i ask something. tomorrow i'm getting some tip31c transistors and a teacher in my school told me that some transistors may send voltage back to audio source causing damage to a sound card (or a whole mo bo)

is that true and can it happen with that specific transistor or do i need to put some diodes in the audio cable?

i'm just making sure it's safe to do i don't wanna damage my mo bo :)

  • how much would u charge me to make one 4 me.. n what state r u in?

  • If the lights were to plug into the audo jack, wouldn't the music not play?

  • @starwiz951 You can use a 3.5mm Y-splitter.

  • @ShyRobot That was my guess.. I'm making one of these for my girlfriend for christmas, well, it'll be part of the present. So I'm going to add some PC speakers to the box.. Unfortunately I couldn't find any good battery powered ones though.

  • @starwiz951 I used a A23 12V battery and then I got an N-battery holder. You can find these on the RadioShack website.

  • I made one exactly like this one ! and it's really cool!, I used a Tip31C with 3 LED using USB power from my pc to power the LED, and the LED are pluged in // to take less tension.

  • That's sick... Broski.... I did the same thing but I used cathodes, did you need to use resisters on the LEDs or no? And what cord did you use to adapt it for computers, a speaker wire connection or what!?

  • from 1:00 the terminator LOL

  • Hi!!.... I used a TIP31C and it didn´t worked...its neceesary tu use de TIP31 single??

  • @cesarggonzalez i did the same and mine didnt seem to work...the reason for it that the tip31 Collector-Emitter-voltage is 40V and the tip31c is 100V...so it needs more juice to work...when i hook it up to my pc it works...not perfectly but works :) i'm still gonna get the tip31 and replace the shitty 31c

  • This is awesome!

  • I built it..All mine does is lights up the second its plugged in..What did i do wrong?

  • i tried to make one and now i'm having trouble. where do i plug in the jack of the led music box? i plug it in the audio output of my laptop right? but how will i be able to hear the sound?

  • @boobwind you can use a splitter to a head set or external speakers

  • @ouyeraohw thanks, man

  • Is this an LED array connected to a low pass?

  • Where is motabeatz - new? i can't find it :(

  • @draftube Its called Fight back on my channel

  • @NickMDC

Thanks, but it sounds different, guess the way this was recoded or dubbed made the sound seem nicer, more muffeled. So thats why i thought they were different when i was listening to it.

  • nice to have one of these. im trying to upgrade all my lights in my room. just got a beacon by img lighting desk lamp.

im going to try to get one of these beat boxes.

  • @grandeoak22 can you tell where to buy one of these.

  • Eey,

  • rate my light music;)

  • @korsez PLease post your LED Video to my right video (and not my LED CUBE).

  • Hoe krijg je zo'n TIP31? Of heb je die hier niet voor nodig?

  • Hey, i need some help. i just want to like put led lights with my speaker, but when i crank the volume the lights blow up please help?

  • @HardRemixx you need to put some resistors in your curcuit

  • @rockhoppergames kk, would 100ohms be good?

  • @HardRemixx that may not be enough, try 180 or higher. Go as high as you can without the leds being too dim.

  • Perfect:) I wanna do something like this to my room :)

  • I you plug this on the audio output, how do you listen to the music? :S

  • @pumpfever is it really that hard to figure out its so simple

  • @XxProClanxX I think I didn't explain my question well, I was wondering how to listen the internal speakers of my laptop having this plugged, I think it's technically impossible.

  • @pumpfever xD have you ever heard of jack splitter?

  • Comment removed

  • @MVBteam Who doesn't??? But I want to use the internal speakers of my laptop, I don't want to buy external speakers.

  • Comment removed

  • how do they know when to flash that is so sick i wanna put some in my car please help

  • awesome

i'm building a stereo and i'm gonna be using your idea to make it look badass.

what i would like to know is what would i have to change to reverse the effect; so that the LEDs dim when the signal gets stronger?

my idea is to have a seperate circuit with less powerful LEDs to pulse on the off beat, probably on a different colour

any help would be greatly appreciated

  • LOVE IT 5/5

  • Yo this is fuckin sick

    wats the first songz name

can i geh the link plz

  • @heyusuck1 Those beats are made by my brother: Motabeatz. Check the first song on /watch?v=Sfr5vaSgEI0

  • it is obligatory to use the TIP 31 i have a KIA7805? could it work !!

  • In your tutorial you said : "1 LED per 3v. I used 12v, so 4 LEDs" but there's 6... how ?

  • Many transformers (wall adapters) will stray away from their original voltage after some time. The adapter he had that SAID it was 12V, read as 18V. Before you make any project with a powersupply, test it with a multimeter to avoid burning out your LED(s) and/or transistor(s).

  • How much are 6 leds? like price? and does the price depend on the color of the leds?

  • Music is very interesting.

  • So, after about 2 hours of fiddling around on following the schematics, i finally achieved on getting the lights to blink according to sound. **very cool project i might add** my question is

how do i play music from my macbook internal speakers and also use the 3.5 mm jack for that box?

is it possible achieve this 2 sound outputs on a mac?

  • Whats your brothers name? Does he have any albums released yet?

  • @CrudeProportions No I don't :) Check my channel for more beats.

  • ERROR!

  • I want to start making one of these, but how do you only get like half of the beats on the tracks? and do you use a splitter for the audio to go through it?

  • saw your Instructable, just wondering how you would go about haivng the light changing from BLUE to green or red. with the music, but not having blue red green in series.

  • Try using RGB LEDs and have the emitter fromt he TiP31 *somehow* be the collector for the RGB Led.

  • Ziet er goed uit.

  • How well does this work with rock music?

  • @AstroCamo probbly not as well just because of the fact that there are more un-separated bands of frequencies, and harmonics in rock music than in rap/electronic music,

  • wooow - cool project

i'm searching for the first song "motabeatz - new"

    is it available anywhere?

    thank you very much

  • Here you go ;)

    watch?v=Sfr5vaSgEI0

  • how bright is this thing? is it bright enough to light up a large living room or large basement? or should i go for a 24V and use more bulbs?

  • brightness depend on the LEDs used. search for high power led's. talking about size of the Box - each LED has 5mm ... might be 7,5cm long so not enough power for a whole room =)

  • definitely not. He's using LEDs, not even bright enough to light up a small car. He has directions on how to make this in the "more info" section.

  • i want to hear more of the Wake Up track, but didn't see it on your brothers channel, is there a link?

nice diy too, would be cool to see a bank of different colored ones going at the same time.

  • Thanks. You can adjust this project however you like :)

The song is on his channel.

    /watch?v=9nXr_viiWKw

  • Wicked man! :D
