@aspie182 Yes, I agree. I tell my friends....I am a Marxist. Harpo is my leader AND I am a loyal follower. Aspie, I like the quote you used in your description. The Marx Brothers movies were often about being different and having to deal with a pompous, unfeeling world.
I do sympathize with parents of autistic children, it's not an easy parenting job. But our society is a little too quick to dismiss differences and demand children conform.
I never would've been able to enjoy this if it wasn't for my dad. He's been gone since '92 and didn't have the chance to take advantage of the internet. Oh, how we would enjoy this together. Thanks Aspie...and dad.
My Dad also introduced me to theyre movies which was a fews years back n we we're tlkn bout some funny parts just yesterday n i jus stopped n said thanks for makin watch em i love harpo & the marx brothers theyre genius
Harpo harp playing is beautiful and i love him and his humour so much! He is probably the funniest comedian i have heard of. The way he made them children laugh was just amazing.
I'm neither Jewish nor Christian nor Muslim (nor a supporter of an organized religion of ANY KIND), but I think what made Harpo so adorable is he didn't go around touting that he's Jewish as many do. He simply lived his life as a decent human being, who became impossible not to love. If there is immortality and a heaven somewhere, I have no doubt Harpo is sitting in the middle of it, whistling and honking his horn! And this beautiful image is the only reason why I might wish there'd be a god.
I am pretty certain there is a realm where we all go and mull over what we learned in life. Men like Harpo and his brothers would be professors there.
Indeed, the only time I remember Harpo saying anything about being Jewish was in that quote I put in the video. The fact that he said it so rarely, and obviously under extreme provocation at that time from the Nazi regime, is what made it count for so much.
Harpo is one of many people I wish I could tell how much I admire them.
You seem to think about him as I do, the more I read Harpo speaks the more I utterly admire the man and everything about him, it's rare there is ever such a 'good' person in existence let alone one that everyone who knew him says was so very good as well.
@jahaantarbiat Haveing vision trouble I couldnt read the qoute a it went too fast. What did Harpo say about being Jewish. As you mentioned he didnt actualy talk about any reilgon for or againest, that is a good lession in and of its self. He talked some about it i his autoBIOGHPY But mainly in referance to major events like getting Bar Miz, sorry my spelling is crappy. Any way please let me know the qoute. Thank you
Jenny McCarthy is against over vaccination which causes autism. How is she a 'curebie' ? but I AGREE THAT GOV. SHOULD STAY OUT OF PERSONAL BEHAVIOR LIKE "HYPER KIDS" BEING DRUGGED. What is your beef w/ Cris Rock? Oh I just thought of this...
Jenny McCarthy is an ignorant little bitch whose mouth should be sewn shut before her voice box is ripped out. Every word that has come out of her mouth on the subject of autism is without the slightest scientific merit. The vaccine theory is not only soundly rejected by every real autism expert on the planet, scientific peer review has found it to be devoid of any actual science.
But just for shits and giggles, explain to me why I am the only person in my entire family who is autistic.
Harpo is very funny but the reason he didn't talk was because of a review he got early in his career. His son said that the review said that Harpo was physically funny but his jokes were not. I don't think that a connection can be made between Harpo and autism, and I have asperger syndrome.
That does not surprise me. Most creative artists have a stage or an act where they simply stop acting and be they themselves. That is, if they really know what "themselves" consists of. In Harpo's/Arthur's case, the difference seems very subtle to me. Perhaps that is because the two had a lot in common, in terms of nobility among other things.
I don't understand the reference to doctors chelating children to death, but I think Harpo would be sickened by how bad things are in the world today.
The most important and insightful message from Harpo is very brief, 3:23 to 3:25, but speaks volumes about the man and his music. Your doctor-bashing is inappropriate, especially because your opinion is asserted in a tribute to Harpo Marx. I wish you PEACE.
Harpo's comedy was gentle, in spite of all the aparent fury and frazzle of it. He was never offensive or caustic in his humor. He was like a child who didn't want to grow up. He only seemed to poke fun at those around him, and was quite happy to poke fun at himself.
I think that Harpo's style of comedy would be ignored or even spurned if it were being presented to the public for the first time today. I do not believe today's audiences really understand inobvious satire.
From Argentina: The Great Harpo Marx was a great silent comediant. He even chooses to do silent humor in sound films. He creats a great character that will always live.
Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin could only be silent comedians because there wasnt any sound when they started making movies, and when sound got invented and they started making talkies i feel that Charlie and especially Buster Keaton lost a lot of there magic and didnt reach the hights that they did in the silent movies. Unlike Harpo who i feel who has never lost the magic and truly is the best silent comedian.
I'm in total agreement with both of you on that. I don't recall ever saying that Keaton or Chaplin were funnier or better than Harpo. There is a distinct difference, though, between saying that Harpo "was the best silent comedian" and saying he "was the original silent comedian".
Of course, the poster has changed the original body of the text and removed that comment, so this is sort of a pointless discussion (well, it was pointless anyway since people were arguing with me over things that I didn't disagree about in the first place).
yeah i agree with you aswell there is a distinct difference :) i was only telling you how i feel though lol i didnt mean to come across as if i was arguing or anything like that :)
Yeah, it's sometimes hard to tell people's "tone" through text. Plus the internet (and youtube especially) is full of very angry people trying to start crap since they failed at life, so I hope you understand how I might have taken it the wrong way. No hard feelings though.
Chaplin did silent work well into the 30s by choice. Most of his time speaking was in more serious parts. Modern Times is still one of the most influential films (at least comedies) of the 20th century, made in '32 and not a word uttered by Chaplin.
@UneducatedGenius Interesting note about Keaton and Chaplain, I didn't know that. Harpo is one of the funniest comedians there ever was, especially to go without saying a word.
When I recently read the Harpo quote I used, it made me immediately think of things like the Combating Autism Act and those damned marches. I keep thinking to myself "we have not learned a single thing".
I don't know too much about the politics in the US to be honest. What is this Act about and what'S with those marches, where can I informe myselfe about thinks like that? Why do you thinks, tha "we have not learned a single thing" and who is actually "we"? Sorry, for all those questions!
The Combating Autism Act is essentially the US government signing over funding to so-called charities like Cure Autism Now for genetic research. The wishes of the actual autistic community regarding this legislation were ignored. There are autism civil rights movements online, try looking up Amy Nelson on Google, that is a good place to start. "We" refers to humanity in general.
Okay, thanks for that info! I'll look it up. CAN is even known in Germany in the Autism Community (who is actually veeery small) and the Word "Autism" got to something like a swearword, who are even using politicans and means something like heartless or so but we don't have something like an autism civil rights mevement, but that's why I want to inform myself about things like that, cause everything is in the beginning and I think, to know how it is in other countries is very important.
Well, unfortunately, you need to be prepared for a lot of defensive behaviour when you try to inform Germany that it could well be contributing to another Holocaust. That is partly what my videos have been about - waking people up to that very horrible idea.
A lot of people just don't understand how serios the situation actually is, because "now", they say "everything is cifferent". But I don't think so. There are still children who are dying one some strange treatments or are trying to be changed every single day of their life, just because they don't fit in something called "normality". And that seems to be a worldwide problem!
We (just a handfull of people) are fighting against the fact that the word "autism" is used in the newspapers and so on as a swearword, but that's not that easy at all, because we are too small.
AutTV has a video about Albert Einstein and the fact that if he had been born in 1979 instead of 1879, he would have very likely been diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism. This is a fact that can never be stressed enough when addressing people who want to tell the world that people on the spectrum have no value.
When I go to the doctor and I say, that I think that I am autistic, the only thing he might has heard about, is the one movie called rainman. So it tepends on the country and a lot of other things, if he would have diagnosed or not. But if I them, that Einstein is autistic, they propably don't believe me anyway.
That is why the video in question is a good thing to show them. It describes details of Einstein's life that lead to the inescapable conclusion. A lot of today's people do not even want to admit that elementary schoolteachers called Einstein retarded to his parents.
I have a video about Rain Man. If I knew how to save movies off here so you could take them to the doctor, I would tell you. But it is a matter of finding the right doctor, I am afraid.
There is a way to save video's off youtube. There's a plugin for Firefox called Greasemonkey which allows you to run extra javascript scripts and there are many scripts for it that will add a download video link to the youtube page. I can't put any urls in here of course, but it all should be pretty easy to find.
@aspie182 I do not have autism BUT I know first hand what it is like to be born differant AND in Nazi Germany my life would not be worth a 10 cent beer. Soon I will be 55 but I was a child once.
