  • What's the outro song to this video?

  • I noticed that Rossetta Stone, (the way im learning japanese, besides anime) uses female voices, will that make me seem gay?

  • I Started learning japanese when i was 12, so im good ;D

  • A foreigner can teach english in Japan despite of not being a teacher?

  • i agree, the best books are probably written by the native speakers but, can they translate as well as a westerner . They both, westerner and natives are pretty much meeting each other half -way. You said "japanese for busy people" and i actually just checked they exact one out from the library, so i think im on the right track if i picked out a book that i thought was good and u back me up on it.

  • !HOLY SMOKES I HAVE THAT BOOK!

  • @arivas713

hahaha I can feel your happiness just by reading your comment :p

  • what are your thoughts on the latest Rosetta Stone program do you think it's accurate ? and how many different dialects are there you said that Japanese from Tokyo is different from Osaka

  • hmmm I know there is a difference between how Women and Men speak Japanese. However, could you also explain the differences between Osaka and Tokyo Japanese? Is the speech between the two so drastically different?

  • yaaay!! i found the book on eBay thank you very much^_^!!

  • I was just about to buy these 2 books! They are awesome!! Anyway thanks for your tips, love your videos!! :)

  • Is that why male students of Japanese sound like girls when they are frequently taught by women teachers?

  • but do Japanese guys ever say "kawaii" or "o-ishii"?

  • good vid.

i know what you mean about the westernized Japanese books.

when i bought Dirty Japanese i was in shock, it definitely surpassed the common phrases i was learning.

thanks for the recommendation for the other books you mentioned, i'll be looking out for those!

    keep recording & posting !

  • Does it matter so much?

    (the man and women speech?)

Because im all for easy stuff, so when I see a word that has a relaxed "version" and an uncomfortable "version" I'll go with the relaxed one. (except of course when I have to be polite or sound like a girl)

(ex. sugoi? I'd rather say sugee. Sounds easier and comfortable~~<3)

    So does it really matter?

  • not to sound mean, but the only men who use womens speech are gay men in japan. not that there is anything wrong with that, but ummm...if your not gay do you want to sound that way?

  • Huh? Wait no what?

I meant the other way around.

    Im a girl lol.

Maybe I didnt explain it right?

    lol

  • haha whoooops. yeah you can use guy speech you might be called a ton boy though or thought of as a tough girl.

  • Oh, thanks for letting me know.

    Lol.

  • @unrested

When you said that only gay men use women's speech, is that the same thing as saying guys who speak and move in a feminine way are gay in the western world? You know, the whole stereotypical gay guy thing. Because not all gay men act feminine, so im sure not all gay men in Japan use women's speech...or do they? Im not gay, im just wondering if I can use the feminine words at all, or do I have to always stick with the masculine words. I know watashi is feminine and formal though.

  • @LotusDragon09

I'm gay and Japanese. Not all gay men act like a girl, but straight poeple who don't have gay friends believe that gays act like a girl. My friends were surprised when I told them that I was gay just because I don't speak in a feminine way.

  • Ok, so theres not like any rules or anything? I suppose if there were a few feminine words I prefered over the masculine, I could still say them. People would just look at me weird, but im used to that :). I usually speak neutral gendered anyway. That way I wont come accross as overly-masculine or overly feminine.

  • Great FAQ! keep em comming!

  • awesome vids man.. do you know anything about piracy in japan?

ive heard japan has a huge bootleg selection..but on top of that do people download music as much as they do in the states, and movies and shows etc?

also just to add a sidenote..when i had long hair i use to break out much more than i do now with short hair.. it must have put oil on my face or something anyways... look forward to the next vid

  • also, whats the music scene like? bands djs etc? thanks

  • great video, the book tips were really nice to hear about I'm going to have to check some of those out just as a small study because my school doesn't offer Japanese sadly.

Here is a question ^^ So I am thinking job wise here, what are some jobs that Gaijin can get besides teaching english or construction or something? What are some of the options?

If you could answer that I would be really grateful, Thanks!

  • thats good you will make the effort to do your own self study. i wish i had studied loads more before i got out here.

as for jobs pretty much you are limited to teaching english. unless you are fluent in japanese. even construction work is not an option. pretty much you are only being allowed to stay here if you are filling a void in the work force that cannot be filled by japanese people. remember this little island is packed like a sardine can.

  • @unrested im in highschool planning on moving to japan for a few years to study the langauge and style (im going to be a fashion designer) after i graduate so im starting to learn the langauge now. Theres this game for DS called "My Japanese Coach" thats suppose to teach you to speak, write, and read japanese. Do you think this would work or be too formal or just plain nonsense?

  • cool and awesome video Scott keep going you're the best :-)

  • I have a question. I heard that people from Osaka speak and act very differently then people from Tokyo. Since you live in Osaka do you think thats true? and what are some of the differences that you have noticed?

  • definitely a big difference. Osaka people are alot louder and aggressive, but they are also less afraid to talk to a random stranger. I find tokyo people to be far more reserved and a perhaps a little more grim. but then again i am no expert. Although I have heard japanese form both areas hate on each other quite a bit lol.

  • Great advice. I lived in Korea for years and learned my Korean from a few girlfriends and although I could speak some, Korean men I met commented that I spoke like a 22year old woman!! :( hehe

Hope the Mac is workin well!

  • lol your hair style is now "cacaguatito" i wonder what you'll think of next.

  • haha cacaguatito... I should apply some fake hair to my chest and allow it to billow over my tank tops. so hawt right?!

  • definetly, you could surely pull of a zangief

  • i love your hair! :D

  • Thanks for the book suggestions :D That was really helpful since when i go to japan i don't really want to talk like a politician XD

  • yea

  • this is just a question u could have asked in your faqs.

    Game Designers in Japan

  • sorry i dont completely understand what you are trying to say. did you want info on being a game designer here too?

  • yeah it was just getting to be waaay too much work and with the osaka summer coming you do not want that much hair in a country with no central A/C.

  • hey man y you cut your cool hair
