  • I think the relation between Bette Davis and Lauren Bacall is like that of a mother and a daughter. They are quite alike with one another. Surely she keeps walking on the same path Bette had walked on years before. Lauren Bacall is another Bette Davis. I love both of the actresses. I think Bette must have been very proud of her role Margo Channing played by someone who idolized her and imitated her.

  • This is very beautiful

  • HAHAH this was my high school musical back in 06/ my senior year, we were suppose to do a chorus line but the show was on tour at the time - I was Duane Fox - I wasn't thrilled when I heard we were going to do this, I never even heard of it, but it's such a clever show and the music is way fun. Besides just a musical version of "All About Eve" it's a satirical but insightful view of theatre.

  • I wish Backstage Babble hadn't been reduced to just the background track here.

    But I'm LOVING THIS!

  • Lauren Bacall and I have always adored Bette Davis. And the role of Margo Channing belongs to another great actress besides the two: Anne Baxter.

The plot is exactly based on that of All About Eve. Thanks for posting this clip.

I think Bette Davis must have been proud of the role being played by her pals.

  • If you watch this, and then go watch The Shootist (which is only three years later) she looks so much older in it! What happened???

  • @coolkid1234533 This is a telecast of the 1970 debut, so it's 6 years later :) Also, she had no makeup or special lighting in "The Shootist" to suit her character.

  • wait is this a rip off of All About Eve?

  • @itsjustme2919

It was based on ALL ABOUT EVE!

  • This should be restored and included on an ALL ABOUT EVE deluxe edition DVD.

  • Thank you Mikey !!! I've been wanting to watch this again. I first saw it when I was 16 living in San Francisco. That same year I saw it at the theater starring female impersonator Charles Pierce. Great memories. Thank you

  • I simply can't believe it! I have searched and searched for a copy of this. I was absolutely sure it didn't exist. I remember watching this when it was broadcast and I was only 15! Wow!

  • I saw the original Broadway show at a matinee with our school drama club in 1971. I also saw this on CBS. They cut out the number "Good Friends", but otherwise, it was exactly as I saw it in the theatre. Great memories!

  • omg look at this direction; it's clearly beyond its age; it looks like direction and camera work from the 90s at least.

  • I saw Applause on Broadway back in 1971 with Anne Baxter as Margo. She was AWESOME!!!

  • thanks for posting this!!! rare and soooo 70s, but still a gem.

  • I'll never forget watching this when I was 9 years old! Thanks so much for posting!!!

  • I have an old "Applause" LP , but I never thought I'd be able to see this one!!!

    Thank you so much!!!

  • Wow! She still looks quite sexy here given her age! It's so weird because she looks VERY different in "The Fan" (but I won't say more about that, I'm a big fan I don't want to talk negative about her) As the performance, I wish she would have take on more bubbly roles like this :) Great to see her so lively

  • !The Fan" was made more than 7 years later!!!

  • Thank you for posting this movie! Perfect timing, Lauren wrote a lot about it in her autobiography.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it.

  • Penny Fuller blows Lauren Bacall off the screen with her monologue.

The Vietnam reference gives this thing a gravity that was lacking in the first 10 minutes.

Bacall seems to be trying to sound exactly like Bette Davis, and she, and the other supporting players (except Fuller) are way over the top.

This is the role that got Bacall taken seriously as an actress. but she has given far more restrained performances before and since.

  • This is a hidden gem...

    spectacular upload !

congrats to the 15 and 16 boys who already like this stuff..there is plenty of pleasure (art ) ahead for them..

    grazie mille

    eux

  • Thank you so much I am 15 and a big Lauren bacall fan. She is amazing!

  • I'm speechless!!!! I'm 16 and a huge fan of Lauren Bacall! I've been looking forward to this for so much time, and here in Italy it's absolutely impossible to have a chance to watch it! Thanks so much!!!
